I think they are giving her too much spotlight, side-roles are important too. Since if she stays as the main one for so long, she'll just end up kinda, ehh. Of a character. On the movies and all, I mean.
Harleen Quinzel has so much potential to create an immersive psychological story that deals with the real world issues in such a way as the movie Joker did, please do this.
I agree hell I'd pay to see the movie where they dig deeper into her backstory & more into jokers manipulation of her & his more abusive side after they became partners in crime
Well, Todd Phillip's Joker is the primary example of an origin story with realistic aspects. Imagine if Two-Face focuses more on a corrupted lawyer dealing with multiple personality disorder. Killer Croc as the circus freak dealing with his skin condition. Mr. Penguin dealing with alienation from society and raised by penguins. Riddler who is a problem solver who is dealing with bipolar disorder.
So basically another Joker movie? Your post is dumb You want another movie that deals with this? In joker you witness his downfall. So what harleen would be about?
We need a movie of Harley, but definitely not like Suicide squad or Birds of prey style, we need the movie like The Joker style. That would be gold. DC don't dissapoint us.
@@tommybro5313 bruh idts. The style of Birds of prey, suicide squad, deadpool is repetitive. They need to do a different style for the movie. Like they did with the Joker.
@@capone6941 true but I honestly don't think they need a sequel... What they should do is make movies like that about other characters.... Imagine something like this on Two Face, Riddler, Penguin, Scarecrow, Harleen lol
That's the thing though, some of us think "Well maybe our love will help them become the better person I can see that's within them".......... and sadly majority of the cases are we get burned by doing so.
"I could help him" "my love could cure him" Those words.... Those exact words are what screw ppl up into terribly abusive relationships than destroy them They did for me. Edit : woow did not expect this to blow up like this. Ty for all the likes
That's the thing the current movies don't seem to understand, Joker and Harley's relationship is abusive. Trouble is if they made a movie with this in mind nobody would probably see it.
"She's crazier than him and more fearless." -Amanda Waller (Suicide Squad film) "She came closer to killing me than you ever did. Puddin'." -Batman to Joker (Mad Love) Harley Quinn is so real. Her story is within the bounds of possibility, and she's the perfect representation of how far someone will go to get the tiniest feeling of love from someone who has so little to give. "My fault...didn't get...the joke." -Harley after Joker throws her from the Aquarium's top floor (Mad Love)
That’s probably the point, Harley sees the joker as a perfect romance style character and since it’s from her perspective that’s what they’re going for
Harley is so popular in part because her story is relatable to those who feel like they were played for fools by manipulative and toxic people. Whether they were abused or saw the signs and got away by the skin of their teeth, a lot of people have felt the psychological damage that infatuation with a toxic person can deal. It's pretty messed up how common abuse is, most people I know had an abusive partner, parent, or both at some point, and what's worse is that some are still in denial about it. My mom acts like her father was a wonderful man despite him having to stop beating her one time because he thought he had killed her, the cognitive dissonance some victims of abuse have in that regard can baffle outsiders, which unfortunately often leads to victim blaming due to ignorance. Why don't people being abused just leave? It's not always the same reason, but it's rarely as simple as just leaving. Abusers typically isolate their victims, seperate them from any support system they previously had to make them dependent on them. That's just one way, sometimes it's even messier, such as if they have a child, or if one party is disabled in some way and the other is a caretaker to them. Notice how I never said which was which, disabled people are capable of abuse too, and the victim might stay in part due to feeling obligated to help their abuser. Accepting that it's not your responsibility to save someone even if you care deeply about them is hard, but if you're currently in a situation where you're being hurt physically and/or psychologically by another person, please know that their emotions and reactions are their responsibility to control, not yours, even if they say they wouldn't be so angry if you had or hadn't done some arbitrary thing that in reality would not have made a difference despite their insistence otherwise. In many cases, they'll make a million excuses for their actions and shift the blame to everyone else or even the supernatural before ever considering that they could be at fault. It's not too late to get out of this situation, no matter how complicated it is or how long it's been since you've talked to your old friends asnd family. Most know that at the deepest point of infatuation with an abuser, you'd push them away if they brought up their concerns, but if you approach them and let them know that you realize what situation you're in now, most of them will be happy to do what they can to help you get out, whether that be temporary housing, helpng pack your things, or providing their emotional support and love to help you find the strength to leave.
Funny how far she’s come since her creation in Batman the animated series. Edit: Thanks for all the likes guys!! Btw, who else loves the new Harley Quinn show!?
And then there was the movie version of "Birds of Prey." When the mighty falls, BOY do they fall... How can that happen with such good source material. We saw it in "Batman vs. Superman" too. What a waste....
@@drfifteenmd7561 Care about one another? He keeps trying to change her into something she’s not and she loves toying with him. Though, you’re absolutely right that they never were compatible. That’s why it’s constant drama and toxicity in their relationship.
Taylor Knight that old guy with Margot Robbie? I feel like Jared Leto can play the joker well. If he had more screen time and more time to actually be the joker I’m sure that he would’ve done a great job playing the character. But his lines were so limited we didn’t get to see him really BECOME the joker ya know
I seriously doubt it. That Joker is fundamentally different from the one in the Joker movie. They're not compatible at all. Plus this Harley Quinn genesis while pretty "gritty" is still rooted in comic book themes and imagery in a way that the Joker movie version cannot emulate.
"ok cards on the table: i spent 5 hours sorting through the Mad Hatter's patient history so there was some of that in my dream as well" so yeah it's there
Probably the best interpretation that exists at the moment. The perception of mental deterioration is to the point. This is how I always imagined the transformation. The drawings are also beyond any doubt. My personal top DC Comic 2019.
Her character deserves the spotlight imo. The relationship they both have is one which many people don’t get right and romanticise which is the far opposite of what it is supposed to showcase. The joker, of course, is a manipulative character who uses her rescuer instinct to his advantage while she thinks he is a broken soul which can be fixed, stitched up again and filled with love he supposedly lacks (bs he conveys to her in order to make her his minion). I’m sorry if I got some things wrong I’m not a die-hard fan but I find their story as villains quite interesting and that’s what I’m getting from what I’ve seen and read so far
@@kobi7955 The real Harley was never a victim. In The original Origin, she becomes his sidekick because she wanted it! Stop victimize her. She is a psychopath and did very cruel things and she knows exactly what she did. Thats the Harley i liked. Funny, but also with a passion for destruction and killing liker her "Puddin". Not the "iam just a poooor girl cause of my abusive ex" version whe have today
@@shred79 I'm not saying she's a good person because she definitely isn't I'm saying that the Joker manipulated her into doing what he wants and when he didn't need her anymore he kept her just to abuse and manipulate her some more
shred79 No he physically and mentally abused her all the time, she wasn’t always a psychopath. She just fell in love with a terrible person cause he manipulated her.
Feel like she still could as a stand-alone. But I agree, they keep chucking her into films that don’t let her show her potential. They should’ve started with her origin and then gone onto a Gotham City Sirens movie.
@@Laurap01 who are that " They" who shove her in movies she doesn't belong ??? Cuz Margot Robbie herself is producing Birds of prey and she has pushed for it for 5 years !!!
@@cloudytc9399 Instead of showing a darker and deeper version of Harley and revealing her relationship with the Joker in more detail, Margot made her an educated clone of Deadpool.
I believe it’s because nobody is born evil something makes them and that makes them human, and thus relatable. Like the joker movie makes you sympathetic towards him, but than you think about what he’s done.
I like that this is actually going to be exploring the origins and showing the relationship become what it is. Because lately it seems like DC just rather skip her origins and even their relationship, instead going for the breakaway storyline or the end when she's already crazy. This looks good 👍
Reading about her getting out of a bad relationship is inspirational to girls and boys who r stuck in the same situation. While I agree that the outfit for the new Harley Quinn is skimpy the birds of prey movie was absolutely wonderful and shows the struggle of her realizing he wasn’t good for her.
"Maybe some day, my love can cure him." Soooo, let me get this straight... A psychopath who worked as a psychiatrist wants to "cure" a psychopath who she fell in love with from being a psychopath... Does that about sum it up?
''Maybe someday my love can cure him.'' Instead, he took her down with cruelty leading her to madness. Yet somehow years later she broke free of him and became her own person - although she wasn't Harleen anymore.
Also the fact that her being a doctor and got that close to a criminal like the joker and became his lover just showed how much of a doctor she was like no.
“Alright guys we got one of the most insane and genius criminal masterminds in history locked up, should we assign a highly experienced panel of mental specialists with 24/7 oversight of all sessions with the Joker?” “Nah fam just let this freshly graduated highly impressionable chick do one on one unmonitored sessions with him, what could possibly go wrong?”
Maybe they'd given up on him and just assigned the person least likely to get more done elsewhere in an effort to save the more experienced doctors time while letting the new girl get some experience dealing with a patient she couldn't possibly drive any crazier by accident? And without oversight, because it wouldn't be Arkham without revolving cell doors to help patients get their regular rigorous physical therapy sessions with Dr. Batman.
*Yes people who haven’t read this amazing comic yet buy it now you won’t be disappointed in the story because the art and story is fantastic!!* *Also this shows u why Harley works best in stories with the Joker it’s always a masterpiece of storytelling and in this comic you see a different side of Harley Quinn in this amazing story.*
I’m really liking Harley Quinn’s development. Like all of a sudden they make a show on her and then a movie based on her. I’m really digging the common themes of her being independent and her road to making a name for herself and not as the Joker’s sidekick. Along with her crew it’s amazing!
@@splinter4161 Even the sane Harley didn't sound like this. Just listen to her voice and accent in Mad Love where they showed her before she knew the Joker. She had the same voice and accent as her crazy voice, it's just that when she went insane, she put more emphasis on it to the point it was over the top. These new Harley voices just sound so basic before and after they go crazy.
Maybe Tara Strong was unavailable? But I agree...Kaley Cuoco just sounds like every basic white girl and it's not good. Margot Robbie plays it like Harley is from Boston. Melissa Raunch was good, but she plays it like an old Jewish mom trope (the same voice as Howard's mother). Give us Tara Strong always.
This trailer is genius. At first I was put off for by the narrator’s tone, but seeing the trailer in full, it makes perfect sense. It’s clear Harley Quinn sees her story as a romance, and so there is a blend of conflicting elements. The voice and pieces of imagery allude to the sensation of a young adult romance, but the underlying laughter, distortion, and escalation in darker themes attribute to the psychological horror the companionship she mistakenly believes is “love” really is. Overall, an excellent portrayal of a victim of manipulation and abuse.
Another cool detail: At 0:58 you can see Harley's face once the mask is peeled away. That of a bloodied, beaten down, deeply broken woman. One who didn't know what she was getting into with her Mr. J. Which she hides under the mask of Harley Quinn (with perfect makeup) as the Joker's henchwoman, because she's so emotionally invested in him that facing the truth would be too painful for her. It's either that or admit her whole "love" for him was a lie. Because the Joker is a psychopath -an expert manipulator- and moreover he was her patient at Arkham. She was his psychiatrist. But she fell in love with him despite her better judgement. He preyed on her compassion + willingness to help others in need, presenting himself as such in order to use her for his own schemes. And the rest is history.
Finally a series where they go back to Harley and Joker's relationship! I've read the first three issues and they're AMAZING. Is that it or is it ongoing? Either way, thank you DC for finally giving us BTAS fans the version of the characters we deserve.
Wow um, first interesting designs kinda “colorful” but I like them. Next the story seems good we get a new take in Harleen Quinzel’s transformation. I like the feeling that Harleen and Harley are there together like in the show Harley Quinn. I feel like she is still sane and doing a good thing. Which the comic obviously states, but I’m kinda hooked on this idea
The creator, Stejpan Seijic, also has a phenomenal creator owned series called sunstone; a Bdsm Romance comic that bucks all mainstream cliches of the lifestyle and is an incredibly heartfelt story that's worthy of a read.
Why can't we get more versions of Harley Quinn like this? The writers should try to make Harley her own thing not a DC version of Deadpool. She got so much potential to be one of the most complex characters in DC.
I read this the other day and it's very good, joker here is hot af! (If only DC could make live action movies as interesting as their comics and not the nonsense they've been doing for harley ...)
Joker is the best DC film in a long time in my opinion, if they did a Harley film in the same sort of style, I think they'll start hedging in the right direction again. Not saying every film should be like Joker because that won't work, I mean DC should make more films LIKE HOW Joker was made. Be open to taking risks, change things on the go, play with the characters rather than do a Zack and say we are doing this because it fits with what I have done before (Batman in B V S) and don't worry about cinematic universes. I'd rather there wear 6 entertaining Batman, Harley or Superman etc. films that didn't link to anything anything else in DC over one set of bland play it safe films where the characters have to be a serten way because of other characters or one Director's vision.
Idk if I'm reading too much into this, but I'm really into how Harleen's words are contradicting the illustrations with how she talks about changing the Joker when in reality, she was the one who was being warped. It really shows how blinded and manipulated she was by the Joker.
sfighter00 Trust me, the art is amazing and his story telling , I deeply enjoy, I have seen works of Stjepan Sejic, especially the Sun Stone series. He is great and also his wife. You should go to his deviantart account if you are curious.
I read it. It's really good. Shows how Harleen fell for the Joker, and how her decisions and some unfortunately timed events drove her to become Harley Quinn. The art in Harleen is also top notch.
HARLEEN FANS READDD - According to Newsarama - Harleen has been planned for 9 issues in total categorised in 3 main story arcs (the first 3 issues being the first arc). However the writer and artist sejic has said with other projects in development, the rest of the issues will come at a later time, especially with an Isley (Ivy) origin story in development.
Gonna say it, im really happy with the love Harley has been getting lately, her own tv show, getting a cool origin comic was in suicide squad (meh) and Birds of prey (havent seen it but ive heard pretty good things. Who wouldve thought that sidekick designed for the cartoon wouldve come so far
This would have been the best thing to release, her origin and joker's entwined. It is raw, and would have been interesting to see this executed but alas... I digress. I can dream of this kind of movie.
That and the Joker is a master manipulator. He knew the things he needed to say to make her see him as a curable victim she is making progress with yet at the same time making her feel loved and understood.
