Bit of a tip for re installing fork cap, prior to putting the springs in install the cap until the threads just catch, make a sharpy mark on the cap and fork inline, then put the spring in and line the cap up about 1/4 turn from the marks lining up so you are right at the point of it catching, makes it a bit easier when fighting with a spring

Nicely done. I’ve found the best device to fill forks is a large veterinarian syringe. With a capacity of 100ml, it’s SO easy to fill the forks with no mess & no fuss. Plus you attach plastic tubing to it and suck oil/ brake fluid/ clutch fluid out. Also, it’s highly accurate, and you get the complete and correct amounts of fork oil in. I found using exactly that jug you did, that there’s at least 10-15ml left in it.Unless you leave it upended over the forks to drain in. But no one does. I also wrap the body of the syringe with clear Sellotape to preserve the measurement markings. They’re also great for reverse brake bleeding; and clutch bleeding. With different syringes of course.

Give one of these a try Nick.. ive been using one for a couple of years now.. all the benefits you say, and also the seals won't degrade over time due to noxious fluids ! www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/oil-and-brake-fluid-inspection-syringe-200ml-120826?search=VS404&description=true

Never seen drain plugs like that on a fork. I usually see them through the bottom and you have to remove the axel to get them. That was quite easy. Wouldn’t mind doing them every year in that case.

Yeah, wouldn't you think it'd be a sensible addition to any bike with regular forks !

Hey Delboy, ive been watching your older videos a while now... i have ran into a problem with my yamaha r6. Whenever the bike is rolling it feels bumpy on the rear almost as if something is stuck on the tyre. I checked the tyre which is new and not punctured, the pressure is well in spec. I just cant seem to figure this one out?? Any advice? Could it be a worn bearing? Its only coming from the rear

I'm always afraid to say "this should be an easy job" or even think it. 😁😄🤣 Nice to catch a break once in a while. Any bike that rolls through the doors of your shop is destined for some serious TLC. Glad to see you and Penny got a day off last week. You both certainly deserve it. Cheers and Thanks as always.❤👍👍

Mmmm, I bet that smells like all the fun... Old and worn out heavy oil is a scent that I remember only too well from doing gearbox, transfer case, steering box, and both axles on my old '61 Land Rover. Nice touch with the little drain plugs though, makes a nice change from taking the forks off or having to remove the wheel to get at a similar point.

Wish I’d seen this last year when I did my Dyna! Those soft grips would have been a must. I struggled to find the correct socket for those tops. Might be worth a link to that Del? Word of warning, when I pumped mine it went all over my brake discs! Might want to cover those too. Thanks D & P.

"Might be worth a link to that Del?" Link is right there at the top of the list in the description below the video mate.. i knew a few people would find them worth putting on the tool list..! And yes, always go over the disc after with brake cleaner for sure. !

Sometimes, like watching a cooking video, or seeing a freshly mowed hay field onscreen, I wish that the viewer could smell what was happening onscreen... Watching a fork oil change video, I am so very glad that that tech doesn't exist... My guess is, you won't have to trim your nose hairs for a while, since the stink probably burned them clean off! :)

Hiya Del, looking at the state of the old oil that came out, can i ask why you did`nt put some cleaning agent in there to flush out all the filthy residue?.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 11 месяцев назад
Interesting question, and one I've answered a couple of times in Q&A's and made mention of in quite a few videos... remember that flushing agents are solvent based and literally break down and dissolve oil, and as there's always going to be a residue of any liquid that ends up inside the fork, imagine what the residue of the flushing agent will do to your new oil... personally, changing it every year is all it needs!

Knew a guy once that swore his mid-70's FXE handled better with 10w in one leg & 20w in the other. How he came to that conclusion I don't know . . strangely, nobody's seen him for years. (Maybe he bought a Soft-tail Springer & somehow tried the same trick on that - 'CLANG!' : )xx P.S. The editing on 'fitting the new clutch bracket' was, well, it just WAS . . deserves chocolate

I've just discovered your videos over the last week and I absolutely love them, not only are they incredibly relaxing, they are also the best videos I've ever seen on motorbike mechanics, and you 100% have the highest "knowledge imparted to words spoken" ratio of the whole internet. Watching these as I rebuild by little AJP PR3 is making much more confident I'm doing the right thing. Thank you for the time and effort you have invested in these! Having some a small amount of editing myself, I can't imagine the hours you put in.
