I’ve never reversed flushed my brakes/clutch… Very interesting for sure. I’m guessing this method works better at eliminating any air bubbles that can tend to be trapped in the line flushing the normal way (?). Great video for sure. I’ve installed self bleeders on my 2002 Kaw Connie, but I’ve only bleed the brakes/clutch filling the reservoir top down. The self bleeders seem to work well… so far anyways. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks again for great content and as always, so good to see someone do it right. I cover my tank, and wrap the reservoir(s) with old cotton t-shirts I use as rags. Keeps the accidental spillage from getting on anything that isn’t reservoir territory 😉.

I saw you used Mobil one brake fluid? What's the exact name of it? And why did you remove the bags? Also I removed my clutch cover on the 114 and I saw some water come out with the clutch fluid. Went out early last year, on my way home(5 mile out) my clutch "failed", so had to rev match on down-shifts(stopping was a nightmare). Hi Nick, thank you for those kind words, I appreciate that... I know several Harley techs and they all work with the same care and consideration and have a passion for the bikes but there are of course those that don't, I'm sure, but in my view, taking care of your own bike broadens the pride of ownership and keeps you closer in touch with it's state of health don't you think? And with the C-Spanners, I'm told Sealey operate worldwide shipping, so if you went on their main website and emailed them direct, I'm quite sure they could either ship to you, or arrange supply in some other way through a vendor.

@@Moonfleet41 Yes a quick easy fix! I recently bought a pen like instrument which is a brake fluid tester measuring water content. I couple of weeks ago I changed the brake fluid on the sportser and out of interest I checked for water content in a 12 month old open bottle I used. It was just on the verge of being usable. In spring I'm changing again to be on the safe side even though I haven't used it. As for the 114 Street Bob I know I would be hooked that's why I haven't test rode one yet lol. 🇸🇪🇬🇧😅👋🏻

hi, ive have a bmw r nine t with a fluid operated clutch using mineral oil and bmw say its not part of the service schedule and never needs changing. does mineral oil absorb water like hydraulic fluid and what do you think of the never needs changing idea.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
No Mark, the mineral oil won't absorb water, but it will break down over a long time, (a long time meaning maybe 10+ years or more).. so you could still change it if it's really old, but nothing like the regular intervals of the DOT glycol based fluids!
@Nomad-Drifter
@Nomad-Drifter 2 года назад
Hey Del, I’ve been meaning to ask you this question in regards to the brakes but it applies here as well. How do you know where to fill the reservoir to? With the brakes if you’re pads are due a change wouldn’t you have to put less fluid in the reservoir as the new pads would push the piston back filling the reservoir with more brake fluid than before right? When I did my brakes and clutch this past summer I used a needle to make a light mark at the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir on the inside them filled it back up to that level. Be good to hear so experienced feedback on this, on my old bike I must have put too much fluid in because after a ride I had brake fluid weeping from the reservoir. Thanks Del 🍻me mukka.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
OK, it goes like this.. Fill to the top of the sight glass for the old pads you have, (if no sight glass, go about 6mm from the top!) Then, when it comes time for new pads, suck the fluid out of the reservoir, push the pistons back and fit the new pads, then top up with fresh fluid to the same level as before, that way, you'll have correct adequate fluid with the low pads, and also with the new pads, you simply adjust accordingly mate.. Hope that helps.

Not sure why you took the saddle bags off, but OK... You have to try to change the clutch fluid on a Road Glide. Quite the ordeal to level the reservoir. Also, the cover to the bleeder on my bike can't be fully remove, I have to pull the top open and have just enough room to change fluid. Are those stock headers on your bike?
@petedetects7012
@petedetects7012 2 года назад
Sir , I don't have the squeaky sound from my clutch handle but when shifting gears i need to completely squeeze the clutch handle for the gear to engage. Also if I start my ultra when I squeeze the clutch handle to its limit my bike surges forward. Can the issue be low level clutch fluid . Thank. You for sharing Big Mex from central California.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
Hi there, ok, two things maybe.. if you have after market "fat comfort grips" they can prevent the lever from pulling all the way back... otherwise, it may be air content in your fluid line.. so bleed the clutch through to force out any air and it should crisp up the lever and give you normal clutch operation.! Hope that helps you sir, good luck with it.

As I understand it, for a HD, if you get ANY air in the line, it has to go to the dealer and be put on the machine. Where I live, it's $120 for the service of having the brakes flushed, and the ABS module reset. When I did my bars on my 16 SGS, I opened a banjo bolt too far, and it had to go in. The brakes function, but they will lock. I've seen videos where people say they can do it, and show you how. That's one of the things I'll let a pro handle. The ABS is too important (to me), and I want to know I didn't muck it up.

Do you think I can find the clutch slave cylinder and or bleed nipple on my BMW GS. (2019 model) I've a rough idea but hell its buried in there. I think they'll get their £130 out of me. Grrr!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
Oh my goodness, proper buried they are.. the closest I've done to that is on a BMW Rockster, took me hours just wrangling parts to get to it..had to unbolt the rear subframe, drop the exhaust off, back wheel out too, easy enough to see it under the air box.. but not so easy to get hands and tools to it.! Good luck with it mate, hope it goes well.

Hey buddy, glad you enjoyed it, and absolutely loving the 114, it'd astonishing the amount of power they produce compared to the old twin cam, plus less heat and vibration too, I'd recommend one to anyone if they haven't tried one out yet.! You have a great week too and keep safe. D&Px

Well done. And saves a lot of money. Interesting noise: I've never had a squeal of the hydraulic clutch of my Triumph Trident 900 (MY 1991). Nor on a rented KTM Freeride 350. All my others bikes are operated by cablem though. Might be a Harley thing. Cheers from Günter/Nürnberg/Germany

What size ranch did you use after popping out the cover of the slave cylinder to control the fluid going in?
@Big88Country
@Big88Country Год назад
Not that easy on my bike Brother! Had to pull the chrome heat shields, the R/H floorboard, remove the bolts holding the R/H muffler on, loosen the exhaust bolts from the heads, and finally I get to remove the clutch cover plate. When I first started I thought it was gonna be this easy also, but nope! Had to do all that to get my cover off. Don't get a 2017 CVO Ultra 114, or you'll have to do all of this also for 5 minutes of work. I'm gonna have to start a RU-vid channel so I can justify to my wife on getting a motorcycle lift!!
@Moonfleet41

Sorry to hear that brother, it can be a hell of a job for such a simple task! Same goes for the rear brake fluid reservoir on some Dynas, you can clearly see what order they assemble the bike in at the factory!

Yeah, i have had that a couple of times, worst design i ever saw was getting access to the rear brake reservoir on a Switchback.. totally hidden and buried behind the exhaust, aftermarket or standard, just the same.. makes a rear brake fluid change a two hour job.!

You can still do the leaver pull-in trick to get more of the tiny air bubbles out, but that is less of an issue than the brake side.
