Why is the Harley Davidson Road King Special, so Special? A large cruiser motorcycle with lots of luggage space and supreme comfort for touring long distances. However Harley have gotten rid of any wind protection and touring lights upfront.
I believe there is a unique reason to why they have done this. In this video I will go over this very important feeling that contributes to the Road King Special being such a great bike.

We hope that it is because of "work related" issues and not because of anything else. You can add a quick release windscreen that comes in clear or smoked out black color. Gives you the option of adding a windscreen for longer rides or taking it off for zooming around town. Great option for this bike.

True. I have the Memphis Shades medium smoked windshield at the exact height I need, but haven’t even put it on yet. Will put it on when I take a longer trip that will require me to be on the Autostrade longer. Then I will take it off when I’m at my main destination. Next long trip will be to Sardinia or warmer Southern Italy when the weather is cooperative so that may be the time.

I used to scoff at Harleys but have a Road King and an old carburated Fat boy now and i love these bikes.

Glad you’re enjoying the ride. Just the open rode and deep growl of the engine…wonderful. It’s a bike that loves to cruise and does it well at any speed. Just rode my RKS up the Italian and French Rivieras and then took the Autostrade back to where I live in Northern Italy…no windshield. Coulda used a windscreen at around 110 kph on the autostrade, but not too bad w/ a full face helmet. Something about the new chassis design and front end seems to push more wind away than my prior gen RK. Perfect for clearing the mind and putting things back into a healthy perspective.

🙌 Thanks I appreciate it. Absolutely loving the ride, nothing like a bit of throttle therapy to feel better! Wow that sounds like a great trip, I would love to do a long trip on this bike. A screen is good for longer distances but definitely takes away from the involvement. Cheers and take care

@@redangrevival You may find that the longer distances don’t really affect you much unless they are longer distances at high speeds above 110 kph. At least that’s how it works for me. I also hit the gym on the regular w/ weights so holding on for awhile doesn’t really affect me. I can see how it could be tough if not used to pulling and pushing things in certain ways…takes some getting used to I guess. An interesting thing I noticed was that at certain places I was at speeds greater than 125 kph and didn’t feel much wind. This happens in tunnels as well. Not sure what is going on either with the physics or geography, but it was kind of trippy. Anyway, my perspective is that it’s a motorcycle so some wind is to be expected. I ride the bike to work as much as possible, but can’t wait for the next multi-day trip. Definitely will do the Rivieras again soon…amazing scenery.

I can easily understand the many reasons for taking a break from you tube videos. I hope you are riding and getting the full benefit of "wind therapy " without bothering with cameras and commentary. Hope all is well, Red. ❤ Harleys aren't my thing but I still appreciate the styling and sound. I "get" windscreens, to a point, but enormous fairings undo the sense of cool to me. Practical mostly but in a very pocket protecter way.

Good to see you back on RU-vid. Looking and sounding good too. That's a bike that needs long stretches of open road IMO. Skinny country lanes or busy B roads in the south of England would not bring out the best of it's charm. But in country pub car parks it would be a real crowd puller.

It's a really nice bike ,some people prefer not having the windscreen but still have the bags etc for touring....Welcome back,I thought you had decided to quit Utube....I have moved to a 2023 Streetbob, harley number 6, I still have my Speedmaster but it will be for sale soon.

I think You should try the BMW R18 Roctane cause I think it is the closest competitor to the Road King Special. The whole idea of the road king is that you get a touring bike (frame) with no distractions like on the street glide or a road glide. No satnav no music. Just you, your bike the road ahead and the weather elements you encounter!

Hi Angus, the Road Kings are everywhere here in Southern California. I rented the old 88 cubic inch version many years ago. The weight was concerning at first. By the end of the day, I didn’t want to give it back. I wonder how the RK compares to the Speedmaster?

Yes, sometimes on paper a bike doesn't make any sense yet it ends up being a keeper. I'm fortunate to have a Triumph Speed Twin and a Harley. Objectively the Triumph is a much better bike in most ways yet I enjoy riding them both. Maybe it comes down to enjoying them for what they are versus obsessing over what they are not? Hi. Hey man Scott from the US. I was thinking about your reviews and got back on here and try and catch up. I’m glad you reviewed the FTR-1200 because that bike is built so well and so much fun to ride. They do not get great resale but here is US you can find that bike with less than 4000 miles for 9k. At this price it’s had to look at others. A bike I would really like to see reviewed is the 2024 Husqvarna Vitpilen/Svartpilen 401. They made huge updates to the bike and the quality is amazing KTM engine and parts. This year lower seat, new ABS, brakes moved, new swing arm, mono show moved, new cylinder heard for HP and torque. New bars on street ed and quick shifter. USA 5600. Wondering if you have them there. No beard? Didn’t recognize you? I watch 6 reviews last night catching up. The Ducati V4 engine is sweet right. So any favorites last year?
