Thanks for this video. I have a 2022 SGS 114 and am going to do the stage 2. I bought 3 years extra warranty so I too have to stick with Screaming Eagle cam to keep warranty valid. A very good honest video, I appreciate you.

New subscriber. ‘18 Heritage 114. 72K miles. Enjoyed your content, as I came to many of the same conclusions as you after visiting with my service advisor. Obviously warranty was not a factor, but reliability was. My last softail was traded in with 133K on the odometer, hope to run this one to 150K. Wish me luck!

@HDVIBE No problem. Did you see the Harley Davidson release of the new motor? 135 !! Kyle Wyman hit 180mph in Daytona. Ya Buddy!! I have 2019 Street glide special with the Woods cam 22xe and stock exhaust moded to a 2 to1 possibly with the baffle delete. Elvira definitely moves and sounds nice. I just wish the mushroom shaped air filters were a little bit flatter for knee room

I have a 2022 Road Glide St with 117 M8. Did a stage 2 with a Star 30-30 cam, 50 MM S&S manifold, D&D 2-1 Billet Cat with Vortex baffle. Just had it Dyno-tuned the other day with power vision and got 123 HP and 135 TQ at the rear wheel. Max torque hits at 3k rpm. Keep in mind, when a manufacture quotes horsepower and torque figures, it always at the crank, which is much higher than the rear wheel, so not a fair comparison.

My dealer was shilling this exact set up. I never took the plunge. I have 2022 RG CVO with the black chrome so limited choices if I want to keep exhaust matching. And after a full year of the endless opinions on cams I’m kindof left wondering if max power necessarily equates to max riding enjoyment. I’ve heard stories of people with 131 kits that hated riding them at lower speeds. And I wonder if a cam that is more middle of the road may be something nicer to cruise with. Do you have any thoughts on this and are you completely happy with the direction you went? Do you find that you need to clutch the bike more at low speeds? Is it still comfortable lower speed group ride cruising?
@HDVIBE

My experience with the SE8 447 cam has been very positive. No change in ride except when I want to twist the throttle a bit harder and you feel the extra torque and power. Also at slow speed I have no issues. I recently spent a few hours doing slow speed maneuvers on the range and was perfectly comfortable with the set up. If you are a subscriber already....thank you. Had a s/e stage 2 torque cam in my 114-then swapped to s&s 475 Worlds of difference, with an aftermarket tune ofcourse The torque cams hardly noticeable once up to speed, the 475 actually keeps pulling the more you roll it on Wouldnt waste my time or money with a s/e cam or dealer tune again.. also sounds far superior I get that people leave the 117 stock as its probably “enough” power but if your going to do it do it right this time and do an s&s 475 or redshift 468 or alike in the 117 with the whole kit not just the cam Screw the warranty screaming eagle cams are useless Once you have a proper stage 2 unless your racing its more than enough for the street If it makes the 114 go hard the 117 would only go even better Had no issues what so ever with reliability etc so warranty has not been an issue its a reliable kit aslong as installed and tuned accordingly

Thanks Luke for all the info. This is very helpful. I may put a 475 in at some point in the RGS. Since I have the entire cam chest changed out, I'd just need to have the cam dropped in and get a different tuner. Ride safe and enjoy. ✌️👊👍

The reason I don't stick with HD Stage 1 and 2 is simple. A 107 with a non OEM stage 2 and proper dyno beats a stock 117. I get that HD has to follow EPA regulations, but an aftermarket cam, exhaust and air cleaner shouldn't be able to beat a stock 117, yet it does simply because the EPA has hamstrung HD so badly.
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE Год назад
Thanks for sharing your perspective. The 107 as you mentioned definitely can be tuned to out do the 117 or even bigger motors. It's all about the tune and if dyno tuning it's all about the guy doing the tuning. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

I have a 23 Road Glide ST. I put stage 1 with Harley Street Cannon slip-ons and Pro Street Tuner. I also added the Harley Smart Tune Pro. Admittedly the bike runs great and has excellent power. But, having more money than sense, I somehow want more. Tech I talked to told me Harley did not offer the torque cam in the 117 ST as it was so close to the 447 that you could not feel the difference. I am looking at the Screaming Eagle Power Cam (462). Many commenters in various forums state that with this cam you will lose low end torque, however all of these were installations in 107's and 114's. If you look at Harley's dyno chart you see significant increases across the board. Also comments by people who actually put this cam in their 117's report more power at all RPM's from stock and are very happy. My bike came with a lifetime warranty and as such I'm going to use Harley parts installed by dealership in my drivetrain.
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. I also have studied the torque and HP curves for the 117 with the 462 cam. It's definitely an increase over the stock 432 cam and looks like a nice upgrade. I have a 2022 Lowrider M8 117. It's a beast I'm still getting use to. Highway speed in Florida is typical 70 with most people doing 80. I have to remind myself there is a 6th gear because 80 in 5th is so smooth. Twist the throttle at 70 and I was shocked how quickly I got to 90. Practically speaking I'm not sure spending the money for a stage 2 is worth but who ever said what we do on motorcycles is practical.

Hey Rick.....great video brotherman. . I hit the "subscribe" and "like" button 30 seconds into the video which I never do. This is easily one of the very best videos I have seen on Harleys and engine comparisons. . I turn 62 next month and buying a new Harley Low Rider ST for my Birthday. My last Bike almost 20 years ago was a 825 lb Street Glide with the massive 88 cubic engine🤣. When I saw the Low Rider ST with the stock 117 engine and weighing 100 lbs less than a Street Glide I new this is my next bike because when you are a fossil like me, the lighter the better. Plus that's a big freakin engine. I was going to do a stage 1 but somehow you convinced me to do a stage 2 before I even pickup the bike. I remember riding a 103 CVO Street King back in the day during one of the Harley tours where you test ride all their bikes and was blown away how a stock engine had more pull than the stage 3 I did on my Softail Deluxe at the time. The only thing I am worried about is a stage 2 on a 117 may be too much and rip the arms off this old man when I twist the throttle. All joking aside I need to quickly decide on a stage 1 or 2 before the bike leaves the dealership. Any thoughts my friend? And will say when you started up both bikes the 114 with the cam sounded a tad meatier and grawlier which is why I am thinking to go with a stage 2 now. Problem is I am a senior citizen now so don't want a bike I can't handle. Never though I would say those words. And I guarantee your YT channel is going to grow exponentially fast. Just keep putting out great content like this video. Safe travels my friend. 🙏.
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE 2 месяца назад
Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing. I appreciate your very kind words and support. As to your question, the 117 on the Low Rider ST is a big engine for the lighter bike. I have ridden that bike in stock set up and it's quick. I'd suggest doing the Stage 1 and ride it a while then decide if you need more torque and power. I think going to a Stage 1 will give you the sound your looking for plus you will get a tune with a Stage 1 which will make that throttle response much better. I hope that helps and again thank you for your support. Enjoy that new bike and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Rick, Great talking points and just some good info. I had the 447 cam in my 2018 107 heritage and like yours, really woke that bike up, especially with the power to weight ratio. Went aftermarket Fueling 465 cam on my 2017 Streetglide with full Rinehart exhaust and boy is she fun. @@HDVIBE yea it wasn't until the dealer I bought the heritage from asked if I wanted the cam as part of the deal? Only paid for the parts and labor was waived. I feel that a cam is more than enough of a change, and yet still practical while budget friendly. Did a 95" kit on my 02 roadking and had more issues than I care to recall, so cam is the most I'll do. Once these motors start giving out, I'll just get a crate motor put back in.

Harley is no longer allowed to void your warranty if you put after market parts on or in your bike. Not sure why so many people dont know this yet
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE Год назад
That is true when it comes to parts and who does the install. However, the one exception in the new warranty information is a non Harley EPA tune. So if you use another tuner that maps the ECM and it gets hooked up to the Harley Digital technician, the VIN gets flagged in the Harley system and if an issue arises, the warranty more than likely will be void. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

@HDVIBE 11 месяцев назад
Thanks Richard for watching and commenting. 128 big bore sounds like an awesome idea. If you are doing the Screamin Eagle kit, I think it comes with an even higher lift cam than the 475. There are so many great cam options, at the end of the day it depends on how you will be riding the bike. Sometimes the high lift cams you lose a but of low end torque but it comes on at higher RPM....then the horse power kicks in. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. You got good numbers for the HD cam, I had the same cam and tuner put in my 2019 RGS 114 when it was new and I only got 96 hp and 115 lb torque, I admit I was very disappointed with my numbers but I wanted to keep my warranty which was a good decision as at 40,000 miles I needed new heads, pistons and cylinders and it was covered by my extended warranty! However, I do plan on changing for an aftermarket torque cam later this year when my warranty expires as want more power!

That’s interesting. I went with Harley torque cam and tuner. When I was young I used to hot rod cars and learned everything has a cost. It can be milage or it can be reliability and longevity. If you want real power then go for displacement. Pushing it too hard almost always adds heat and that can cause issues, especially on an air cooled engine.

Rick, great vid. I mean like you said, there are several different options to go with. For me, I also considered pipe especially going 2 into 1, in order to maximize hp and tq. Additionally, I use an aftermarket tuner so when you are dialed correctly you shouldn't see huge degradation of mpgs. Anyway, I did have the 447 cam on my 107 and although it was a significant increase over stock, I wanted more out of the 107 and found that through an aftermarket cam. I mean if you aren't looking for maximum power and torque on that CVO then stick with SE. BUT, if you wanted to see what that 117 is really capable of stage 2 wise, getting the most out of that M8, then I would say go aftermarket. Just remember, if you do the latter, you'll want to go back to that 114 and swap out the cam 😆. Hope all is well otherwise.

Love the color. Stage 2 it depends on the cam. The Harley torque one I have is pretty weak. I have used the S&S 475 in another and it was a nice one. Larger throttle bodies help. The tappet cups are plastic so it was good to dump those , as well as a better pump. I went from 42 to 32-34 mpg. Over 130 HP the transmission will start to slip unless you upgrade the clutch. Dont do the 131 it’s not worth it after talking with a the guy I use that knows his stuff. The throttle bodies are bigger ( they are plastic too stock ) and its minimal for the displacement. My 114 with the S&S put out 120s in a Dyno with the same pipes you used but with a wider band sensor I have sold the bike and ride a triglide as my knees are shot and 2 up it’s easier for me. The triglide has TAB’s on it and the torque Harley cam. It’s heavier and pushing it too much the clutch would have to go. It’s 100 HP and about 8% higher on torque. The street pro tuner is a bit wider than the old one but still has the same limits by the EPA. I am getting the new V&H tuner as it’s epa compliant and won’t kid the triglide warranty and has added features, like temp and such keeps the warranty Indy too on the triglide. H

Great info! I had the 2021 SGS with the 114 earlier in the year and it was stock before I totaled it. Now I have the 2021 RG CVO in the same color as your CVO with the 117 and it’s still stock. I want the lope like your 114 has and the numbers would be acceptable. I just extended my warranty since the old one expired so I don’t want to compromise that. I’ll let the local shop do the stage 2 if I decide to go that way. I just watched your stage 1 full exhaust install and pipes look straight forward. I believe you used a FP3 Vance and Hines on that tuner? I guess I would stay with the SE tuner like you did on this RGS 114. Great videos!
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Don. Yes definitely stay with the Screamin Eagle tuner to stay in warranty. If you use the screamin eagle tuner, you will need to stick with a Screamin Eagle cam for the Stage 2. The cam HD has for the 117 is the SE8 462. This is considered the power cam. Higher lift than the SE8 447 I have in the RGS...so you will get more lope sound than I have on the RGS. However some feel a little torque loss in the lower RPM such as at take off. The torque and HP come on strong at the 3,000 RPM range or so. 👊✌️👍

Thanks Brad for watching and for the question. Not sure I can offer much on these topics but I'll give it my best shot as to what I believe you are referring to. Valve train noise...I have not experienced any issues with this. Mileage...I assume your are referring to MPG. I've been getting around 38 MPG after the Stage 2. This is around 1 or 2 MPG less than prior to the Stage 2. Engine operating temp...I have not noticed any additional heat after the Stage 2...however I've been riding in winter Temps so it's difficult to say. We shall see in the summer if there is any increase in heat. If there is, I may change out the head pipe without a catalytic converter which will significantly decrease heat coming off the bike and cool the engine. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

The only requirement to keep your warranty is the tuner. You can use what ever cams you want and what ever exhaust you want but must use the SE tuner. Now I know I will only have this bike a couple years and I will see something shinier and but it. So why down $500 on the SE tuner and does take the limiter off. Can’t mix the air it’s all EPA compliant. Get the Dyno Vision for same price and that will wake that machine up. You are not getting 100% out of all that work.
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and providing your input on the topic. Your point on only the SE tuner to keep warranty is on point. However, the base maps for CAMs are only for HD cams...so essentially your have to use SE cams or the bike won't run properly or well. Definitely, other tuners get you a better tune given that they can CURRENTLY give you a non-EPA tune, however that may not be the case for much longer. EPA cracked down on Vance and Hines recently, so they no longer offer any non-EPA base maps. It has trickled to the exhaust manufacturer's as well...several no longer offer de-catted headpipes. I believe the non epa tune days may be coming to an end soon. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. I just put the stage 2 447 cam in my 22 RKS it’s plenty reliable sounds great not to loud just right. And it moves don’t need more than that those higher cams are hard on the drivetrain after a bit. You cant enjoy 140 hp an 145 talk you be ripping the tire without even trying at some point it’s to much and takes away enjoying the ride. Then that also comes with extra heat. If you wanted a little more with the 447 cam do intake injectors and a power vision

@@HDVIBE I put the 447 in my 22 road king special. the first winter with a clockworks head pipe after the warrntee was done. pulls nice.. my riding has changed up a little bit. wife coming all the time with me.. I can get into a 2022 road glide st. having rough time deciding what to do here. I was going to put the clockworks FXTP Fairing on and add bluetooth speakers. or it's the 2022 road glide st. I just don't know.. Any feed back on this be great. I don't like running the larger cams either do to hard on the driveline.. may be good at beginning but why hammer the driveline my opinion anyway. I planed on keeping it took good care of it.. may still be keeping it.. my king runs awesome with the 447 11.500 miles not one miss... Have a great day

@HDVIBE 23 дня назад
@lawtondevil Thanks for the update and the question. Here is my thought. From a performance perspective, the ST stock is going to run and perform about the same as the Road King with the 447 cam. You definitely get a nice infotainment system with the ST and obviously the fairing already there so that's a plus for your new two up riding. If you put the fairing on the Road King then you got that covered however I'm not sure how wind protection will be for your passenger. So I think it comes down to preference and your passengers feel. Maybe take her out on a test ride on a Road Glide and get her input and then go from there. Both are great bikes and either way you go you won't lose. Good luck and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Great video. Quick question. I may have missed it in this or another video of yours, but what header are you using? Is it the stock header or have you replaced it with another header without the cat? And I think later yout put Tab Performance pipes on. Which do you prefer on that front. I listened to your videos, but just curious if you found really any difference in performance?
@HDVIBE
@HDVIBE 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Gerry for watching and commenting. In this video, both bikes have stock headpipes. I did switch to Tab 2-1-2 on the RGS a few months ago. While I don't notice much difference in performance, you do notice a bit more sound output and with the CAT not being in the Tab pipe, the right side of the bike is much cooler. The HD headpipes actually flow very well and give good performance...for me it was about heat reduction. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Thanks Rick for watching and sharing your set up. Sounds like you got that Trike dialed in. I'm sure with the PV4 you get a much better non EPA tune so you more than likely ate getting some nice HP & TQ gains with the free breathing exhaust set up. Haha. Just watched, liked, and commented on your “what is stage 2” video. Commenting on this one now and subbing. Again, I got a 2022 street glide special 114 with apex paint. Want to stage 2 it. Running 93 gas. And do led strip lights out back. Biggest question for me is exhaust now. I want black pipes….so please inform me of the best pipe set up for this stage 2 upgrade on the 114? I will be purchasing the new “pro” tuner with Bluetooth and learning tune. So pipes people. Lemme IN!!! I’m wanting to do full exhaust and eliminate cats if possible. If that ruins the stage, then I’ll go with slip-ons. But it’s gotta be black and it needs to work correctly. Best exhaust comment replies here 👇

Awesome sound output and runs great with the Stage 2 set up using Pro Street Tuner. 👍

Just a lil bit faster than the dudes chasing me from the bar when I tell him “who gives a shit about the laundry list of parts you put in and took out just to be 3hp more than mine with no warranty and yer bitch is bitchin about the hot oil that keeps spraying on her calf every time you blip the throttle (47 times per stop light)!!! I’ll just need a 3 sec head start….smiling knowing my stage 2 torque kit will takem from the line and I’ll have to outride em from there lol. Warranty. I like that word!
