I want to take few seconds of my time to THANK YOU for this video. let me explain why? Maybe this comment will help others too. I decided to "improve" my 2015 Ultra limited with the "premium" street glide CVO rear shocks. In the process of removing my regular shocks one of them laid to its side and dripped quite a bit of oil. The CVO suspension turn out to be extremely harsh for me. I asked the dealer about how to fix the old shocks and off course they said they can't be serviced I needed new ones. So this video not only saved me money but allowed me to enjoy my bike again. THANK YOU

Many questions asked here that have not been given a response. If you’re going to take the time (Thank you!) to produce a video, please take just a bit more time to answer a few questions. Thanks again for the video.

Got 'er done tonight (actually early this morning - it's 2am) and the video helped me out. I went with Bel Ray 5wt. fork oil, and the old fluid was nasty on my '99 FLH. I already had the Mity Vac for brake bleeding jobs, so it was nice not having to buy another tool for a change.

Thanks. So many people make these videos with a shaky handheld cam and make them 40 mts long.

I'm looking to do my shocks. I'm wondering what your results were with the 5 weight? Did you leave it, or try something else? Were you happy with the 10 ounce quantity? Thanks for sharing! Your video is the only single one I could find to get a little insight into doing mine.

It was a good video I choose to go with 8 oz I think my mistake was I use 15 weight and without any air pressure in the shocks the rebound and compression is so hard on that now I know why it supposed to use 5 weight

Please send instructions on how to do on bike without removal as mentioned. Also - (I don't see any replies) : what weight oil was used to refill, and what would be the 'heaviest' weight you could use ?

Is there a shock difference between a 2004 ultra classic and 2007 classic?

You use the same method I used on my Kawasaki Voyager, I acquired these same shocks to improve my Sporters ride, Q: do you find 5W adequate or would you use the 7 or 10W oils? I expect to be riding solo mostly, 5W seems adequate but 7W may give me a better range.

Correction to my comment. The oil was squirting out at the time when vacuum was applied with oil in the container and instead of getting air out of the shocker it pumped oil out of the mityvac..

After watching your video I bought mityvac. For the first shock everything worked fine but on the second oil started to squirt out from mityvac side through the black plastic and no matter what I did I could not feel up the shock with oil. If you know how to remedy this please let me know.
@clarktferrill

Can't you just remove that fitting on the shock. Then pour the fluid straight in

This channel doesn't respond to anyone asking questions . I ask a question 8 months ago and I see others have ask also with no answer . You should start getting thumbs down even though this is a helpful video , answering questions is very important.

How much and what kind of oil can I put in each shock absorber?
@Renassainceman

10 oz. in each rear shock. Harley Davidson sells fork oil and you can get it in two weights, std. and heavy. This amounts to about 5 wt. and 10 wt. For even higher viscosity you can use ATF. But for the rear shocks that's probably going to reduce rebound to nil, so start out with 5 and see how you like it first. If you have an older Harley, like my wife's 2001 Road King Police, the front forks also use air over oil, but with a drain in the bottom it's even easier to drain the oil and replace it. Simply let the pressure force the oil out, and use the mighty vac to pull a vacuum from the top to draw fresh oil from the drain in the bottom of the fork. I think there is a youtube video somewhere demonstrating this procedure. Good Luck.

Great video! What Mityvac kit model number are you using? Also, you stated you can perform this maintenance with the shocks on the bike. How would you drain the old oil with them still installed?
@bdsean67
@bdsean67 7 лет назад
YES - be interested on how its done when they are still on bike also ...
@aboutmyfathersbusiness8324
@aboutmyfathersbusiness8324 6 лет назад
I to copied that he said you can drain on the bike. I don't think you can unless you turn the bike upside down. Now wondering if you can use the same method to change fork oil, applying light air to draw out the old oil and mightyvac to draw in the new.
@rgh622
@rgh622 4 года назад
You don't turn the shock upside down, you let the pressure in the system push the fluid out. Pull the fill valve off the frame (one threaded nut) and disconnect the hose. reconnect the valve to the hose below the shock and pump it up to 40 PSI then disconnect the hose and let it drain into a container, below the shock.
