Join me today for the first installment (part 1 of 2) of the Harley Davidson Dyna clutch rebuild. I destroyed the clutch a few weeks back practicing wheelies on the dyna. I finally got all the parts in (or so I thought), and get started with the build. Unfortunately, I made a potentially costly mistake midway through. Learn from my stupidity! And for the record, I'm not a certified or trained mechanic. For that reason, this is in no way, shape, or form, a "how-to"; rather, this is a how "not-to" clutch rebuild. Thanks for watching!

Man you droppin that in the oil was pretty funny but that seems like a pain in the as for the clutch compared to gromy grom
@JonsMotoGarage
@JonsMotoGarage 5 лет назад
Definitely a different beast. However, aside from not having the right tools and needing a manual, there were other things that were a lot more tedious with the grom. For example, getting the old gasket off and just getting the primary cover off were both super time consuming on the grommy grom. I'm just glad it's all said and done. Lol. Wait for tmrw's vid to see the final saga of the dyna clutch rebuild!

I work on diesels on a graveyard shift and usually if it's a small bolt or nut, it's probably torqued in in/lbs. You can get extractors to get the fuckers out. Just be careful and don't chowder those threads.

I did the same thing on a metric bike I was working on. Luckily, didn't bust any bolts. But for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why I couldn't budge the clutch lever. I took apart the release mechanism 4 times because it kept "breaking" loose from all the force I was putting into it. When I re-read EVERYTHING in the manual again, I noticed the label of inch pounds instead of foot pounds. I was so mad! Went in and re-torqued to the right specs and everything worked smooth as butter. Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way!

Shout out to a local AZ resident! Thanks for checking the channel! Here's a link to a vid I did regarding my inspection process when checking out used bikes (not an exhaustive list, but something to start with). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JjDheoVEiX8.html Also, I would recommend checking out some other youtube vids regarding "how to buy a used motorcycle." I haven't done a video yet on that specifically, but plan to at some point in the future as time permits. I think a 300 would be an awesome starter bike. I recently had a ktm duke 390, and my wife was able to easily jump on and take it for a spin (she's a very new rider as well). You should be able to find a nice, newer, low mileage bike (less than 2k-5k miles) for $2000 - $3000. I'm assuming you're looking at the entry level sport bikes (ninja 300, cbr, r3, duke 390, etc.)? There are lots of options out there, so if you're patient, you should be able to get one that's still in very good condition and doesn't need any maintenance (aside from maybe oil/filter). Avoid any restored/salvage. Be patient and don't hesitate to pass on a deal if it isn't in good condition. Always make sure the title is clean and double check the vin. When possible, you can go to a third party place to do the title transfer/registration with the seller to assure there aren't any issues there. As a new rider, try to get an experienced rider to tag along so they can do the test ride and inspection with you. These are just a few tips to get you started. Feel free to hit me up if you have any additional questions. Also, if you're here in the east valley, my wife and I could possibly roll with you to check out a bike or two depending on location. Hope this helps a bit! Happy hunting!
