From the Sam Houston Coliseum, AUGUST 31, 1979. Preceding promo's from Killer Brooks, Brody, & Race, which turns violent. El Halcon must unmask for the title shot. Please comment if you like it & want to see more!
Alot of old timers used their middle finger as a pointer finger. And if memory serves "Harley said that was the finger you were required to point with in Japan.
"Harley Race looks like he is in top condition now" LOL he looks like he ate 3 steak dinners with Chitlins, 2 whole chickens with a loaf of bread and butter and then drank a case of beer. As a real man should.
I’ll never get the insecure “men” who think there are manly foods and drinks. 🤣 I guess when you’re a little less of a man you need to find things to make yourself feel better.
@@messyfilms6325 I watched one of your videos. I think you are too young to know much about women. Women typically prefer certain food and drink choices that are different from what a man, especially a mature man with a high testosterone level would enjoy. You will learn this when you are older depending on what type of man you grow into. After watching your video I would suggest you start eating lots of protein and lifting as soon as possible.
@@adeptronic look at the fat inbred hick. Lol I know I look young for my age but I am 44. If you'd lay off the potato chips maybe you'd look young for your age as well.
I remember watching this on TV. Now THIS is when wrestling was cool. Bruiser Brody has just fought the AWA champion, Nick Bockwinkle, and what does he do right after the match? Picks a fight with NWA champ Harley Race. You don't see that anymore.
first off i grew up around more of these guys than your ever going to meet literally im from the Hart family I grew up in Auburn maine with Tony atlas (white) and his wife monica watching me while my dad was on the road so there is absolutely zero your going to tell me or show me about this thing you call a work that has hospitalized and ultimately killed more of my family and friends than you could ever imagine. Harley much like Paul orndorff are hard to get to know rough around the edges and won their fair share of street fights but when placed against people with a solid background being professionally trained in a lot of cases they lost in real fights this is where i come to this conclusion homie . bruiser would literally tear the majority of these guys apart in any type of actual fight. Your booker doesnt decide who wins they have one job to book the show and hire who needs to be where the booker and the wrighters are totally different your wrighter has to clear everything with the actual promoter your booker, promoter and wrighters are all separate people.
Steve B Dick “The Brusier” held his own in a fight in a locker room against Brody. Harley Race (along with Nick Bockwinkel) would’ve destroyed Brody in a shoot. Brody pulled stuff on other territories, but the two above I just mentioned with power they have in their respected territories would reprimand Brody if he didn’t follow the finish.
I was about 11 when Mad Dog Harley Race walked up to a concession stand in Odessa TX bought himself a cup of coffee and me a Dr Pepper before the matches that nite at the Ector County Coliseum. What a great moment that I'll never forget.
"tellin somebody somethin n doin somethin about its 2 different things" TELL EM HARLEY!!! these dudes used 2 kno how 2 build anticipation 4 a fight back then brody classic on the mic as usual rip mr goodish
I love the way Harley race from the match it's always a slow build up you can tell there's good communication between the wrestlers they're working together to do everything to make this match look good all the little details
Hell yes.Wrestling from nearly 40 years a go.Back when I was 8 years old and didn't what wrestling was.Brody looks like he might be in the best shape of his career.
Two real life legends and legit bad asses squaring off and later exchanging blows with each other is a sight a wrestling fan might not see in another one hundred years from now on. Those people in attendance in the arena should would definitely hold these cherished moments as one of the proud and relished memoeies of their lives.
Bruiser Brody was a damn BEAST! His physique was modern day WWE LEVEL in the 70s and early, EARLY 80s! That’s unheard of for back then. That means that he was putting in work to be a physical beast when the other wrestlers were looking like “fighting uncles” out there. Then to top it all off he was amazing on the mic and interviews! Gone WAY too soon!
It was awesome - every Saturday night there was a 90 minute show from the previous Friday night live show at the Coliseum. There were always a few good matches, interesting angles, and great interviews. The show was always worth watching. Paul Boesch called the matches by himself and was the best - I have heard most (but not all) of the guys calling matches over the years and maybe Gordon Solie was his equal. As good as Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone are, and they are great, Boesch was better.
Now this is what I am talking about! Real wrestling none of that ! Bullshit !! Sports entertainment. WWe junk This is when you had the real true tough Wrestling Harley Race Brouser Brody. Ox Baker the mongoliain stomper Carnaeil Nobeers Jerry black well BooBoo Brezil the list gose on this is what wrestling is missing today
FLORIDA GATOR, Even the biggest fan of Flair (Me) will say that he respectively learned & patterned himself after Dusty Rhodes & Harley Race!!!! He was after those two-to be the last of the "real" champs to wrestle the hour broadways & make opponents look like worthy challengers even when some weren't!!!! ;-)
If you like both of them .there is nothing wrong with that go ahead and like both of them.if you see them as your equal favorites why not go with it everyone is different.
Charter Nicholson, I am gonna disagree on that one KKBB they wouldn't let him have the belt cause they couldn't control him I matter where he went and he didn't like most of the management anywhere
Jack Brisco, Ric Flair, Giant Baba Dusty Rhodes Nick Aldis Jax Dane & Tim Storm were great NWA World's Heavyweight Champions. Also Sting Ricky Steamboat Rhino &AJ Styles
You got to be one of the hardest Sam batches to get knocked straight the hell out before your match, and then come back and beat your opponent. Harley mf Race dam it!!!!!
I grew up in Houston during the 70's Saturday night wasn't over till after Houston Wrestling on ch 39...loved Paul Boesch, Bronco Lubich, Peter Burkholtz and all the great wrestlers who were regulars....Bull Ramos, Tiger Conway Jr., Bobo Johnson, Little Tokyo, Dusty Roads, Terry and Dory Funk, Alberto Madril, Jose Lothario, El Gran Marcus (cussing out loud in spanish), Ivan Putski, Mad Dog Vachon....hell yeah I had a great childhood
Halcon wrestled here in Los Angeles and teamed with the Guerreros. He wrestled with his mask until he lost a hair vs. mask match against Moondog Mayne.
I never knew he took his mask off here! He put it back on and later lost it to Race a year or two later. Race unmasked him in the ring and i never saw him wear it again. He lost it the same night Chavo Guerrero lost his Jr Heavyweight title to Gino Hernandez. Halcon did a lot of six man matches with Mil Mascaras and Jose Lothario too.
Race got over mostly on being tough enough to take your best and being just good enough a wrestler to turn the tide on you , but I never bought that he was the best wrestler in the world . That was lost when Jack Brisco burned out . Between Brisco and Junior there was a believeable rivalry for being recognized as the best wrestler in the world . Race struck me as a guy just good enough to be there but that he could be veaten in most of his matches . That was a change in focus . A lot of people came to Harley Races matches to see the title change hands which is a legitimate way to draw money but its not the same as to see who was the absolute best in the world . Don't get me wrong , Race was great . I just never thought of him as the greatest wrestler .
I like your perspective. Jack and Jr. put on clinics. I thought Race was the most versatile NWA champion. He was tough, strong, technically sound, and good on the stick. He had a believable menace in his delivery. I also think he was best suited to be the traveling champion. He took on faces and heels, and enhanced them all. He even gave Bronco credibility in the ring lol.
I love that the video from Houston in the late 70’s is such high quality. Like St. Louis, it is more of a promotion and not a territory. They had wrestlers from all over. Great stories in the ring and well set up. A little rough on the commentary from Boesch. Too bad Pritchard screwed them and sold the old man out.
Harley selling the punch from brody see this is what wrestling s about,,there not insulting the fans who paid there money..no one will be talking about today's wrestlers 30 plus years later like this
I haven't watched wrestling in over 13 years and this is more real and unscripted and better than any of the shit anyone is doing now. Harley and big Frank could have beaten up anyone in their day and they were believable.
I can tell by the way El Halcon wrestles that he is a good safe worker. He makes sure that he doesn't hit that hard but also in a way that still like he is busting the other guy up. Harley knows how to sell as well.
That was one of the rare loses for 'El Halcon'-in Los Angeles he made Moondog Mayne concede 4 times before beating him! Mayne kept saying he didn't give up-but the sore loser did! ....TONY
A wrestler typically has thick joints and a thick waist as the joints are the weakest part of the body and a strong core is more important than looks to have a tapered waist . Back in the day whenever they tried to present Pro Wrestling as a true Catch as Catch Can Contest it was important that real world advantages be acknowleged . This changed when the fan did no longer have an appreciation for what real world advantages were in a wrestling contest .
