From the Sam Houston Coliseum, April 27, 1979. Two iconic legends of wrestling square off in this amazing match. Please comment if you like it & want to see more!
There was more action in five minutes than anything I’ve seen in a while! Great stuff from my era! It was all about pacing, building the intrigue, and making the people care.
I like how Paul Boesch LITERALLY breaks down the action . I hate the histrionics of match callers like Jim " By Gawd " Ross . I just never liked a guy telling me when I should be impressed by screaming as though he is . I grew up with Jim Ross and can tell you we used to piss on his screaming fits . Give me this type of match calling everytime . Having a pro telling you how gruelki g a Cravate is to the neck or how painful a shot to the liver is or how disabling an arm bar can be is educating the viewer . It helps to tell the story .
I grew up in New York and watched early Capital Wrestling/WWWF, and only read about these guys. These videos are awesome! Houston wrestling makes Northeast wrestling look like second rate wrestling. Keep these videos coming!
The biggest difference between Southern and Northeastern wrestling was the ring . In the south the rings were flexible enough to take the impact . Up North they often wrestled in boxing rings which were super i flexible . Thats why they took far lest bumps . It was limiting . They stayed up right more
Mark Lewin toured Australia many times in the 60s and 70s for Jim Barnett, probably the biggest face ever here in the time the promotion ran from 1964 until 1978.Ironically Spiros Arion was right up there with him and both were big time heels in the USA.
One of the few times I have ever seen Funk looking out of shape. Lewin working main events at 40+ and looking amazing! I hope he saved his money because I am sure for what he drew he was not paid well enough. Deserved some longer singles title reigns as well.
I've always thought that terry Funk was the best wrestler. Selling , throwing a punch. Over the top promos. He could be humorous or enraged. Hero or heel. Hard core or old school. i just feel he was the best general all around performer in the business.
Now ive always liked Bruno he was a bear. But T Funk woulda beat Bruno. Bruno stronger but a brawler. T Funk a good scientific wrestler tuff but could take it n dish it out. I think too the most underrated champion
