Thank you kindly Sir, it's wonderful to hear from you with such a huge Channel, congratulations on your success... we know how difficult it is to create a channel, and gain traction, and you're absolutely right, we spend so much time setting up tight shots, sometimes filming actions multiple times to get each shot, and then of course, as I'm sure you know yourself, the post-production work can take longer than the filming! I've subbed to your Channel, yours is a subject I love to watch (I don't watch bike videos in my spare time, but wilderness stuff and bush-craft fascinates me!), I shall be following your content from now on, Take Care and be well, Del & Pennyx

@@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the sub Del. I appreciate it. I subbed to your channel as well. Ironically, I don't watch the kind of content I make either....I watch motorcycle videos, boxing, etc. I built my channel the exact same way you have, LOT and LOTS of shots. Lots of close up shots. Being as clear as possible. I think making good content is easy, it's just a lot of work...move the camera again and again etc. When I started watching your videos I said to myself , WOW this guy gets it! Fantastic shots, great lighting, crystal clear commentary,......Hats off to you.

I am just in the process of putting a 1275 big bore kit on my 2000 Sportster 883. I have had her from new and commuted daily to work all year round and she has now done 89.000 miles, so just about run in now 👍 Believe it or not there is still cross hatching on the bores too ! I changed the oil every 1500 miles and she is showing very minimal signs of wear. Now I am retired I just want to use her for the odd ride out, so tarting her up a bit. Am trawling my way through all your videos. Thanks very much for the time and effort you have taken in putting these together 👍👍👍

I finally got my Andrews N4 cams installed. When I pulled the cover off the cams came with it. It was difficult to find the timing mark on the pinion gear but the manual is very good in helping you to find it. Installing the cams and rocker boxes was quite straightforward. The biggest problem was having to remove lots of the harness clips, connectors and fuel vent. I would certainly recommend taking photos and marking with tape. In all the excitement I thought I would remember 😀😀😀

@@Moonfleet41 while i have your attention have you considered using hammer performance upgrade kits, ive had very good results over the years, ive got about 30 of their kits and have gotten great performance and not a single issue. @@andrew1977au I have considered many options for sure, and the first thing you realise is the background costs after the kit itself.. gaskets, (dozens of gaskets) fluids, clutch, tools, carb kit etc etc.. it just doubles the initial outlay so i have had to respect the budget and make a measured choice, after the motor is done i still have everything else to consider, wheels, suspension, bodywork, lights, bars tyres the list goes on and on... When working on projects my son always says, dad you always over engineer stuff. I always say back its better to over engineer than to under-engineer that way you dont have to keep going back on your work. Like you did with to mount the bolts on a template it makes life easier, nicely set out & clearly printed.. i just makes sense!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
Makes sense indeed, each one of those bolts if a different length, and although there is a way to determine which goes where if they get mixed up, it's far easier to keep track in the first place aye.. and yes, the over engineering is what i love most about Harleys.

The achilles heel of the sportster motor is the oil pump drive gear, but it's not normally a problem with the stock low tune engines. I'm a long time Buell owner and it's an essential mod to fit a bronze drive gear or a Lucky Hands item, the teeth on the stock scroll gear can end up wearing so thin that they break off resulting in world of pain.It's just to let you know if you're going to hop up the power , kind regards.

5 years ago I got my license and bought an 01' Sportster 883C as my first bike. I wanted to work do the maintenance myself, so I found your video about the 5000 mile service, bought the manual and did it myself. Then I found your primary fluid replacement video, also done that. Then you started the Dyna Wide Glide project, so I ended up modifying and changing up almost everything on my Sportster, except the engine. Please don't do this to me again, as I just bought another bike, so it's not a very good time for me to upgrade the Sportster to 1200. :))

@@Moonfleet41 If I do the engine upgrade, I'd also like to do an upgrade to a dual front brake and that would up the cost by a lot. I have swapped the 21 inch front wheel to a 16 inch wheel with an 130 tyre, and I now have a RSD calliper on the front and EBC floating discs on both wheels. The brakes are massively improved compared to stock, but I think I'd want something even better for the extra power. Are you planning any brake upgrades on this bike. And regarding the engine upgrade, you said last episode you're going to the dealership for Harley OEM parts. Have you also considered the Hammer Performance kits?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
@@alexbaltac3336 I did say i was going to the dealership, but didn't mention OEM parts.. they have many options for the engine upgrade, but which ever "kit" one chooses to invest in, you still need gaskets, not just the head and base, but all of the top end rubber gaskets, seals and washers and only OEM gaskets will give the reliability long term, im also stripping primary, and need carb upgrade parts too, and the dealer is the best place to go because i can choose from options they would fit and warranty, not just the latest fashionable brands ! Stick with it mate, it will unfold over the next few weeks.

Looks like beautiful engineering going on. Fascinated by the cartridge case you used to tamp out the holes for placing the cover screws so they go back into the same thread. Was it a 7.62 ? .308 maybe ? Looked like it had been fired recently too, from the centre pin mark. Will it be a 1275 ? I wonder. Harley use the same bottom end for both 883 ? as well ? Incredible strength. Getting more and more impressed with Harley Davidson here :)

So Glad I found your offerings! Superb! ? looking at the cam gears,I was wondering what does the gear that spins like a merry-go-round do? Do you have another term for merry-go-round? I'm looking forward to your next posting

Thank you for your kinds words... the gear you're asking about is the oil pump drive, the little unit that sits underneath the casing!

your organization when taking everything apart is next level. really gives me a lot of inspiration since I am just beginning to learn how to wrench on my own bike without any mechanical background. any other tips for beginners like me?

Biggest tip i can ever pass on to anyone is Buy the 'proper genuine HD service manual', they will walk you through every service task step by step and give you a huge amount of confidence.

Amazing how smoothly this engine is coming apart. Are you following shop manuals as well, or just years of experience?

Nice one Del! Excited to see what you do to this bike. Have you got a plan yet for what it’ll look like?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 года назад
Yes Joe, have a loose plan for the generic overall style, but it's a long way off yet to get involved in styling, am leaving it loose and open so I can go with the best plan as it evolves... first and foremost though, sort the engine out!

Are going to do the chain conversion? I know that the belt doesn't required as much maintenance than a chain but the chain looks and perform much better.

Are you going to upgrade the oil pinion gear to the bronze version? Best thing for the engine while you’re at this stage.
