Harlingen is affectionately held as the tropical playground of Texas! Established in 1904, this 'Capital City of the Valley' grew from 1,000 inhabitants at its founding to more than 40,000 during World War Two and boasts a population of more than 70,000 today.
Featured in the video is Valley Baptist Medical Center. First established in 1923 as Valley Baptist Hospital with little more than two wings, this flourishing network of providers is now a 585-bed tertiary care facility - the largest in Texas south of San Antonio. It offers more than 20 specialties and ACGME accredited residency programs in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Psychiatry.

This growing city is expanding its convention center to accommodate new musical performances and adding to its expansive list of museums and stage performance venues. Each year, Harlingen hosts the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival, which attracts more than 3,000 participants - an excellent addition to Harlingen's World Birding Center - a 7,250 square foot visitor center inside Hugh Ramsey Nature Park.
