On this channel we've only had two Plaxton Pointer Darts... both being the less powerful MPD variants, one with an Allison gearbox and the other with a Voith. But today, we have this lovely sounding Dennis Dart SPD (Super Pointer Dart), longer chassis than the standard MPD with a powerful Cummins 6BT engine and a very loud Voith gearbox! At times especially where high speeds were reached the gearbox would be even louder than the engine! During this journey on Route 297, thanks to a pretty heavy footed driver we experience many sharp downshifts/kickdowns, high revs and top speed action from Tunbridge Wells to Tenterden via some nice country roads. Perhaps one day I run into an Allison variant if some are still about... 👀
Enjoy the video!

My mistake for putting Plaxton Pointer "2" in the intro, minor error from me 😅

Nice video and nostalgia for me as very similar to Lothian's Voith Dart's, sound wise.

Nice to see it’s an interesting rare type and not a bog standard E200! I didn’t know this is still used by Hams, I’m surprised to be honest. Great to see either way, I would love to sample it if I know when it’ll be about Quality work as always Mr Frozzles! Keep it up! 👌

Yeah man, I’ve been trying to get some more different buses every now and then, mix it up a bit more! Same here man, from what I hear it does schools from time to time, not often public routes/rail rep. Yeah definitely, this is one to keep your eyes on. Thanks man 🙏🏾

Same here man, I’m all used to buses made from 1998 onwards, like ALXs, Plaxtons and the Enviro range. And I only had MPDs near me, not SPDs… Definitely a gem this one though 😍

Great catch! If you want a good Allison Dart that will be floored, try and have a day out in Flintshire, North Wales. Two Allison Darts run with the company Townlynx, and their drivers don’t hold back.

Originally had a 6BT and Allison B300R in it like most pre 2001 SPD's. Now it has 5.9 ISBe 24v engine in it. Blackpool Transport, EYMS put that engine in some of their Excels.

That's unfortunate, same with me really, there were some down South-East London but they were withdrawn quite early before I could get the chance to board. Thanks bro, and the Voith MPD was Metroline DLD697 Link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zDkJfzEP_Xw.html

Alison SPDs are preserved in Cardiff by the CTPG, they also run a transport festival every june and have Y377 GAX in their hands. The 302 group owns S302 SHB which is also a SPD type. Although it may be undesirable as some of the drivers are not the fastest and quite far from london, the hills in barry make up for it. Another downside is, you dont know what time vehicles are running and when they will run. I came for CN06 GDY and got met by BF68 ZHB 😂😂😂 Voiths shifting from 1st to 2nd is too good, banging video as usual Frozzles :)

I see 👀 Sounds good and I'll look up some of these buses in a few. Yeah I defo wouldn't be comfortable not knowing what bus is coming and when 🤣 Thanks btw!
@ChilternTransportProductions
@@Frozzles Nor would I. I see it as bad event organisation and when I make all that effort to go to it, I like to know what’s happening and when so I know it’ll be a worthwhile investment made
@TheTransportYoutuber
@TheTransportYoutuber Год назад
 Its more of a non enthusiast event, its just to have a ride on some open top buses with your family or to ride some old buses for free. How the system works is that you join a queue and they fill up each bus. The festival is really just a locals event as most of what they have runs in South Wales. If you dont live in South wales it just isnt worth it as the travel is way too far and most the drivers arent that fast. Regarding Y377 GAX, they have a event in September so it might be running then. If you are looking for it in june, it might go around the depot once, then be parked up for the day. Im sure there are closer and better alison darts to the M25.
@ChilternTransportProductions
@@TheTransportRU-vidr That sounds wank for a bus veg I won’t lie. When you’ve got things like Low-ish floor running day happening in East Grinstead and Godstone just south of London, which is a dedicated running day run by veg in their 20s-30s for veg mostly in their 10s-30s, who will be after more modern buses getting booted to shit for their RU-vid channels
@TheTransportYoutuber
@TheTransportYoutuber Год назад
@@ChilternTransportProductions Definetly going to be a Alison Dart in that event, way closer to london as well. The CTPG preserves buses mostly in the 70s to 90s but i am hoping they preseve WX06 JXS as that is a replication of TrentBarons 656 just without K/D, but there is a shimmer of a chance it may get its kickdown on as CB are turning on Kickdown for their C2s and topodyn on 307 [maybe they realised just how slow the C2s are up the penylan hill without kickdown] but no changes on the scania stuff, plus 768 is fast enough. Apart from Y377 GAX and CN06 GDY all their collection is older stuff [they are better than modern buses anyway excluding the Citaro] Not a event for people who want Kickdown and thrash and got RU-vid channel, its mainly a event for families and local casual enthusiasts.

Independent operators tend to keep old buses for ages until they have to withdraw it. Outside of London, most operators run fully on diesel buses or have a small electric fleet and withdraw buses at the age of 15-20. Independents also havent got nearly as much money as the big companies, that is why you dont see independents buying Citaros new often.
@FM60260
@FM60260 7 месяцев назад
How have they managed to put a 56 plate registration on a Pointer "1"? You are supposed to only be able to put older registrations on a newer vehicle, not make an older vehicle appear newer.
@lukegibson191
@lukegibson191 7 месяцев назад
The vehicle was never actually first registered until 2006. Despite it actually being older than that, the year seen on the number plate is year of first registration rather than the year it was built
