Freddie had to drop each of his harmonies in just the right place. Nowadays, it is easy to drop and remove them digitally, but if you messed up then, there were no do-overs. You have a great ear and increase my listening enjoyment by pointing out things I did not hear.
Back in the early queen days Freddie was known as the Master of Overdub. This is one of my most favorite early Queen songs written by Freddie, the vocal tracks are breath-taking and spectacularly superb!
This is prime example A in which I tell people who say only listen to Queen live - you have to listen to both studio and live. They were masters of creating the complex in the studio and masters of stripping them down for live performances. Sometimes you may prefer one version over the other, but you have to listen to both of them to truly appreciate the genius of Queen. The Hyde Park version of this one is beautiful, this version is amazing. You can’t compare them, just listen to and appreciate both.
Absolutely love your Queen reactions, clearly you appreciate the talent and skills of the greatest band. Keep them coming. With love and thanks from South Wales x
A beautiful emotional song, going from stripped back single voice and piano to rich, lush harmonies in the blink of an eye. An absolute masterpiece, kind of reprised in Jealousy a few years later
So just to clarify, did you like it? 🤣🤣 After hearing the stripped back, not recorded yet live version, to this one....just goes to show his talent for arranging! Very understated. Very haunting. Very beautiful! Great reaction 👏👏👏
Hyde Park was my first experience with this gem💎, but when I listened to the studio version I was floored!! Absolutely beautiful in every way imaginable!!🎶💖🎶💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
It's a brave man that puts so many pauses and gaps in a song, but as you've witnessed Freddie absolutely nailed it. This is undoubtedly a musical masterpiece- all the more so because of it's simplicity and emotional candour. I can't tell you who did the harmonies but by hell they really are a slice of heaven. I've always adored the song and loved the final 15 seconds most of all, it's so spine tingling. David, man and legend, thankyou so much for this- a momentary shaft of sunlight in a very black week for me, I owe you.
Wow! What a reaction David. Thank you! The end bit gets me too, the lines are take my breath, take my breath on repeat. I knew this would get you...the harmonies from the master! All Freddies doing. You are right...he is the GOAT!
Ah thank you one of queens most sentimental songs apparently written for David Minns one of Freddie’s first lovers he put his heart and soul into his songs and that’s why queens legacy will never die take care look after yourself x x
You're so great with Queen reactions!! Yes, that's all Freddie harmonizing with Freddie, and Freddie, and ... He is so clever & talented. I like this one, it's so beautiful. Creative. Gorgeous. I admit tho, I do prefer the Hyde Park version for it's pure, raw, simplicity.
Great reaction David! One of my favourite Queen songs of all time! I remember the time, the place, I first heard it ! It's moved me to tears unashamedly throughout the years my friend 💝I'm sure it will continue to do so my friend! Thanks David 👍
One of Freddie's loveliest compositions. This is the first time I really paid attention to the end...it sounded like he was repeating away, away, away fading out. The harmonies are really spectacular. Loved your reaction, David!
Hey David, I speak "French" as well. Desscribing Freddie's talent is one of the world's dilemmas ... he was a musical wonder . I can not describe the emotion he evokes in me. He is my love forevermore.
So haunting beautiful. Of course when we first heard it we couldn't jack that back, a diamond stylus would of caused so much damage too vinyl! We just had too listen to the full harmony overload and sit there wandering what we had just heard. Love your reaction when you jack back the first harmony and we know there is so much more too come.
Great reaction! I'd be hard put to decide which version is better. The stripped down Hyde Park live performance was beautiful because its simplicity. The studio version is beautiful because of its complexity.
Freddie Mercury said in an interview on Capital Radio: "This one I did myself, I multi tracked myself. So the others weren't used on this for the voices. I played piano and basically, I don't know how we managed to stay this simple you know, with all our over dubs and things. People seem to think that we're over-complexed, and it's not true. It depends on the individual track really, if it needs it - we do it. So this is pretty sparse actually by Queen and our standards."
I heard the studio version when I purchased the album at release and was floored those so many years ago. I found the live Hyde Park version last year. I love both but the stripped down version of Freddie live is my favorite. How can you not love both? Thank you so much David for your reactions to both. Freddie brought so much emotion and you tap right into it and send out your own emotion. Well done. Keep up the great work.
They were masters of their craft, but timing rarely gets a mention, this song shows how expert they were, using pauses to such effect, and the slight hold on certain words, such as lonely, make it more poignant. All laced with such haunting harmonies and Freddie’s superb piano work. Outstanding.
Another great reaction! You are so perceptive and enthusiastic and I love your input. Beautiful song, and sung with such perfect emotion by Freddie. Like you I love the little unexpected pauses between lines which just take you unawares. Queen are masters of their genre.
Your reaction is exactly how I feel about this song. One of my ultimate favorite Queen songs for sure. They're saying "take my breath, take my breath away" at the end btw.
I really like all the tracks from those two albums Night at the Opera and Day at the Races. Good Company is a great track that is a really good example of their skills in multi track production and quaint English humour.
He was with David Minns his first bf He had left Mary for him So maybe he was still feeling a bit insecure . He had been worried about loosing mary as a friend and hurting her And that David beleived he was serious about the relationship
Back to watch you again David- Your energy and love for Freddie and Queen- I bet you’ll be listening to them forever- as I do- it’s 47 years for my love of Queen- and I listen every day- I listen more carefully because of you- thank you-
This song was used as the music for a beautiful ballet piece. I don't know if it is the same where you are but in the US, I google on youtube, "Bejart Presbytere-1" Maurice Bejart wrote and choreographed an entire ballet using almost entirely Queen studio recordings with a little Mozart as Bejart thought Mozart and Freddie had a lot in common. Called The Ballet of Life, it is still touring in Europe today.
Fantastic reaction David to another Freddie masterpiece, beautiful song all round. You should listen to the studio versions of all Queen songs as they add so much to each song that just can't be played when live. Have you listened to Teo Torriette from the Day at the Race album, another beautiful song that doesn't get much play.
Yes, all of the vocals on this track were Freddie’s, astonishing use of multitracking. And the vocal wash that closes the track begins with a repeated “I Love You” that gradually evolves into “Take My Breath Away”. Queen’s complexity and diversity shone most brightly during this period of their career, IMHO…
Queen is what happened when you have four musical geniuses who decided to form a band. Sometimes you just need to fasten your belt and let Queen take for a wild ride
@@theresarandall7448 The way your comment was worded I thought you were saying it was a Queen song This is what happens... Freddie gets the focus here because its his song and his vocals But he did make a comment about the guitar as well
@@theresarandall7448 He seems very genuine. I thought you were aiming your comment at him that's why I was a bit confused and thought you were being unfair to him
React to the studio version of White Queen. It's very different than the live version. I used to prefer it live, but the studio version has grown on me to become my favourite Queen song.
Thank you. I have never really listened to the studio version of this. Your excitement makes me like it all the more. Have you reacted to the making of one vision? You can see how behind the scenes them working together. I love things where you can get to see their personalities.
I imagine those exact harmonies are playing throughout Heaven!! I hope I hope! Beautiful beautiful song!! You should check out the studio version Love Of My Life, too! Brian learned to play the hart for the recording!! I wonder what was more difficult the harp or 12-string! 🏹 💘
Hi! I am a big Queen fan and am from that era. I love your show! I know you like Roger Taylor and so do I. He started doing concerts again and they are great. His son Rufus Taylor plays drums, does back up vocals and some songs. Roger plays the drums in it sometimes too. Rufus and Roger sometimes have a drum stand off. He is still good at 64 years old! I thinks his voice is better than ever. He doesn't have the range he used to but Rufus covers that. I was watching the Live at Manchester Academy 10/3/21. It was recorded 4 months ago. I think you would like Rock-n-Roll and Hero (they are played together). It demonstrates his "gravely" rock and roll voice you like. Another recording of it that's good is Roger Taylor, Hotei and SAS Band Shepherds Bush Empire , London. 2019. SAS band is Spike Edney's band (He played keyboards for queen). I have no idea who Hotei is. Rufus doesn't play drums in that one. As I am. sure you know , Its a Led Zepplen cover. Hope you like it. I did! Thanks. Cristie
Roger is actually 73, but I agree his voice is still really good. I would love to hear a reaction to The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken). Roger has always been the most political member of Queen.
Freddie and Roger have said the songs needed to be general and not to personal Even if the idea is a personal experience or emotions they were dealing with the song had to appeal to a wide audience so be more general But in this one especially at Hyde park you could feel it was for someone and he wanted them to understand how he was feeling
lets be honest here, how many bands can we think of that could do that vocal intro 🤔 i know my band are not everyones cup of tea and they have their haters (🖕) but the musical skill they had was insane, along with love of my life freddies harmonies were second to none, just beautiful 👑✊🇬🇧
I knew there would be a lot of Jackems on this one! Think you enjoyed it 😚 Such a beautiful song but I go through phases. Sometimes I think the ending spoils the song and sometimes that it enhances it
If you like the dark, dreary songs with harmonies, then you might want to give the song Night Comes Down a try. You might have already done it. Ive lost track.
thanks for this -- I actually love this "studio version" the best - it was his full intention with the piano & harmonies, etc.. and the "breath" - you can hear him taking his breaths - which I believe is fully intended -- (no sleep... ! and the dynamics on "to tell you.. that you... JUST... and guitar sounding like cello..) stunning!.. also, I just feel like it should go straight into "Long Away" lol
Hey David, absolutely love your reactions, if you like Queen harmonies, you should do a double reaction to Fairy Fellers Master Stroke and Nevermore. You really wont regret it. luv your channel.
David, I have just rediscovered a Brian May track called Cyborg from the Another World album. It's the heaviest track you will ever have heard from Brian. Please react to it. I am anticipating your amazed reaction!!
Yes, all Freddie multi-tracked 🥰. You didn’t know what he was saying (singing) at the end… clue is in the title 😂 “take my breath away” . Great reaction as always David 😉😘 ❤️Freddie❤️
harmonizing was there trademark also Brians guitar. There is a great tradition in Britain for singing in choir - think of the church's boy choirs-and everybody is singing along at the last night of the Proms - also those who are outside watching screens. I'm danish - and singing along too - but I'm used to it - as one that always have been in a choir. Were are you from? I guess Britain - but where? - and singing in pubs is not unusual. Bohemian Rhapsody is the start of concerts at Green Day concerts - there is a RU-vid video from Hyde Park -??
Hello , i like your reaction, i request to react on this song "yeh dunya" from "coke studio 14" You will also like all other "coke studio 14 " songs For example one song "mehram" has a Grammy nominated singer singing in that song. Lots of appreciation
