All University of Ambience students should be aware of Echoes, which is billed as "a daily two-hour music soundscape". Hosted by John Diliberto, the show is distributed by PRX and broadcast on 120 radio stations and online at www.echoes.org. For decades it has been one of the most consistent, supportive, and enthusiastic cheerleaders for ambient music and beyond, with reviews, commentary and live performances / interviews including this one from 2003. There is a small streaming sound glitch on one of the pieces which the University's archivist hopes will not impair your enjoyment too much. It was sometimes the way with RealAudio.
Apart from one piece which appears as "Untitled for Echoes" on the album "Passages: the Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 10", this does not appear to be accessibly archived elsewhere, although another piece is a version of "Il Leopardo Delle Nevi" from Budd's album "La Bella Vista". As ever, the University has no wish to tread on anybody's toes, and will rapidly comply with any takedown request.

Harold Budd has always been a favourite musician of mine. He is totally unique in his style of playing. Musical art at its finest. ❤

Never forgotten. He effectively wrote the book on ambient piano.

We can hope that there is some unreleased Budd music out there somewhere that will come out in the future. Guthrie? Clive Wright?

22:53 reminds me a lot of the track Anish Kapoor off of his album Luxa

Too bad, that improvisation is almost forbidden by now, just as being slow, long and quiet.

Someone on this thread referred to Budd as a "Savant", and I could not agree more - he really didn't know WTF he was doing most of the time! This is "LIVE" - and there are so many weak moments where there is no development of ANYTHING! And yet the host of the program, fawns all over this SLOP! It is his association with Eno that put him in the spotlight, and..."The Pearl" was the ONE album I can listen to in its entirety. He is certainly not an innovator! Satie was an Innovator, as was the Spaniard - Mompou. I think Harold Budd was a very lucky dude that Daniel Lanois, and Eno took notice. That minor 6th harmonic shift...Budd does this in almost every piece - Really? Thank God for real Pianist, such as Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett, and John Taylor! - and Composers like Ravel, Debussy, Charles Koechlin (his "Persian Hours" is much more deep, and explorative!), and Gavin Bryars. I will admit - Harold Budd is great to Sleep to!

I don't understand your comment. Please post a link to your improvised piano performance so that I can hear what truly great music sounds like. I'll wait.
