Someone on this thread referred to Budd as a "Savant", and I could not agree more - he really didn't know WTF he was doing most of the time! This is "LIVE" - and there are so many weak moments where there is no development of ANYTHING! And yet the host of the program, fawns all over this SLOP! It is his association with Eno that put him in the spotlight, and..."The Pearl" was the ONE album I can listen to in its entirety. He is certainly not an innovator! Satie was an Innovator, as was the Spaniard - Mompou. I think Harold Budd was a very lucky dude that Daniel Lanois, and Eno took notice. That minor 6th harmonic shift...Budd does this in almost every piece - Really? Thank God for real Pianist, such as Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett, and John Taylor! - and Composers like Ravel, Debussy, Charles Koechlin (his "Persian Hours" is much more deep, and explorative!), and Gavin Bryars. I will admit - Harold Budd is great to Sleep to!
I don't understand your comment. Please post a link to your improvised piano performance so that I can hear what truly great music sounds like. I'll wait.
Found out about Daniel through his work with Dylan and EmmyLou.... hi is atmospheric production was spell binding. Friday Night Lights Sonho Dorato, and some youtube videos of his concert from '89, (best, and most relaxed, grooves ever), Acadie...He's one of my favorites, now, along with Gordon Lightfoot..and from what I hear, he's one of the most humble, and nicest people on the planet.
This was a great find on RU-vid! "Acadie" is one of my favorite albums. He is such an influential producer - nice to see him in interviews here around the time he was making that great album.
So glad i had a chance to meet Brian Eno in 2005 when we were waiting at a taxi stand, we had a nice little exchange. He is as excellent in person, as he is here in this interview. The interviewer was a weak point here.. otherwise, nice to see Eno again.
And my super cool friend Bridgette Tierman took me as a “Welcome to LA gift” 🎁 She was so amazing and same as her brother was, John. Much love to you guys wherever you are 🙏🏻❤️✨
Thanks for this. Anything from Jon Hassell is very interesting to me and lots of other people. Mr. Hassell has been a big influence on my music composing and life outlook in general for almost 50 years.
I love the muffled voices of the attendees swimming and fading in and out. It takes on its own life and becomes another instrument in the mix. Thanks for the amazing post and I send everyone much peace, shalom 🙏🏻✨
This is a wonderful memory rush of his 1988 exhibit Latest Flames that I was privileged to see at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Thanks so much for posting this and to everyone that worked on recording it.
Still have a cassette tape of a recording I made of this - remember recording it from a radio onto a separate cassette player - complete with bird sounds, a distant lawn mower and me telling my brother to be quiet - adding to the experience. Ahh innocent days then
Well thanks to these gents Harmonia is my second wonderful find today! (The first being The Penguin Cafe Orchestra) \😸/ Today is a GOOD DAY! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AlyFY0imh6M.html
I just stumbled upon this a year late, but better late than never. I love hearing my musical heroes chit chatting. Plus, there are some great tunes worked into the mix.
Thanks for posting. I've been listening to this via mixcloud for several years. Interesting to hear the voice overs and see the video. Have to say I prefer the audio only, but I'm glad you posted! Thx.
Intelligence bubbles up randomly - it's not sprinkled from above unto the privileged. Jim grew up in a trailer park, while Brian got sent to art school, but here we enjoy a meeting of companion minds.
What did Brian Eno think about Bowie performing in Israel in 1996 then? This was recorded not long after. Before anyone defends Bowie it wasn't a one off either, he was interviewed for Israeli TV several years later. He was very well read so he must have had an extensive knowledge of the appalling warcrimes the Israelis had and obviously still have against the Palestinians. So it boils down to one of two things, either he supported Israeli warcrimes, he was at least complicit as he also appeared in two TV adds, Pepsi and Evian both of which support Israel and donate millions to Israel or as long as he received a big fat payment for starring in these adds, TV appearances, Israeli concert, etc he didn't give a fuck about the suffering of Palastinians. 😡
