Music is collaborative, especially with the crazy technology and techniques we have now. Like the 3 fingers thing is honestly not that advanced but it's just one of those things that people don't do on harp lol so when she sees it, it's awesome. Just like the muted strings thing he was doing. Who thinks to mute strings on a harp to play different intervals. Obviously she loves experimenting with different things on her instrument considering her awesome pedal layout so it seems right up her alley to learn these new techniques.

Harp is one of the few instruments that sound so good that beginners, practicing, actually sound, if not great, at least good. When I used to play I’d sit out on my deck to practice, until it started to get too cold. A month or so after I’d moved practice indoors I met my neighbor outside and she said she missed hearing me practice. I apologised and said I hoped I hadn’t disturbed her and she was like “oh no, it was lovely. I miss it” it was nice to hear as a beginner lol

most harpists are actually quite chill about it. its almost impossible to transport these things without slowly accumulating damage to the finish. so unless its very new chances are the new car feels actually last far shorter than on a guitar. Rob showing Emily how to do the guitar and bass techniques, and her saying her teacher would hate them reminds me of the story of Harpo Marx- he apparently was entirely self-taught on harp, and as such managed to figure out entirely new ways of playing- to the point that, supposedly, later in life when he could afford harp lessons, his teachers didn't want to change his method of playing and instead incorporated a lot of HIS techniques into their repertoire.

I think the important take away here is “do stuff that will make your harp teacher mad” lol. Once you’ve mastered the proper techniques it’s fine to break the rules. @mal2ksc
@mal2ksc Год назад
I don't see any harm in borrowing right hand guitar techniques for use on harp, except for noting that the two hands are almost interchangeable (not as much reach on the bass side for whichever shoulder the harp rests on) so you kinda have to learn each technique twice to really have it mastered. Just being able to do it with one hand would still be a massive upgrade from not doing it at all though. If guitars can borrow harp harmonics, then harps can borrow guitar plucking. It's only fair. That also means Emily is allowed to use a Miku pedal, doomharps are honorary guitars now.

That's not telling them how to play, it's telling them how not to get hurt. If it's a pro who says "yeah I know, that's why I only do it for 40 seconds a night", that's when you make an exception. Rob, this is by far one of my favorite series on RU-vid. I love seeing you try all of these different instruments and put your interpretation on playing them. I also appreciate your dedication to a gag like falling down while "pushing" the scene aside. You're amazing Rob. Keep it up. Love the channel.

Harps make magic. My Mother sold my Grandmother's pedal harp. I was 6 years old and was devastated as I'd just started learning piano and also loved tinkering on the harp. I'm now 64 years old and it still pisses me off.

I love the music, Rob. Thank you so very much for delighting us with another view of how music is created. I think most of all, though, I love your smiles and expressions of delight as you listen and create music as well. I'm not a musician, I've never pretended to be, but I love to play at playing music, and watching you brings the joy and delight back into it once more. Thank you so very, very much! Looking forward to what comes next. Blessings!

Rob's thing about pinch harmonics is spot on. Those are definitely something that when you learn how to do them, your guitar playing knowledge levels up. I thought they were voodoo when I was learning guitar and then one day, squeal! And now I can pinch harmonic all day. Also, Emily is badass.
