Harrison Butker Gave the Best Commencement Speech of My Lifetime 

This is what all the fuss is about really? A christian guy saying typically christian stuff while talking about adoring his wife? Our society is truly fallen.

I am not catholic, but I became a Christian during my teens and married a man who gave his life to Jesus as a 20 yr old. Because I was a nurse, I was able to help pay for his college education. After we had children, I struggled with how much time to divide between nursing and being there for my children. I ended up staying home full time when they were little, working part time when grade schoolers and working full time as teenagers. i was able to volunteer at the school and my church. My family sacrificed luxuries and maybe lived in a smaller house to make this possible. My adult children are all doing well and I am very, very blessed! It is worth it!

He's a great kicker, and he kicked the devil's butt with that speech.

I’m not even Catholic and I think his speech was wonderful. We need more of that. People need to hear more diversity of thought, a lot of people agree with him.

His speaking of his wife struck a chord with me. My husband and I live, love and work as 1 in our home. We have raised 5 wonderful children and both of us know that being married and raising our children has been the single-most important accomplishment in our lives. Choosing to be a wife and mother has made my life completely fulfilling.

Unless I missed part of it, I didn't hear him once say that women shouldn't go into any sort of established profession or career. All I heard was that along with your career being a mother raising children and a wife will most likely be the most rewarding.

My husband does 100% of the dishes. And I do 100% of the cooking. We like this split, because he's a lot faster than i am, and he wants to get to our "down time" as quickly as possible.

Watching his speech brought tears to my eyes.....I am 78 years old, last of 9 children and remember living all our lives praying together and following the word of God. We have allowed outside demonic forces to attempt to own us and Remove us from our faith, love of God. Pray that we are successful in voting in a President worthy of our love, respect and that will pray with us to return our country and world back to praising and loving God. My daughters just graduated last Saturday from Benedictine. Truth Bomb! Standing ovation. My female daughters were not offended. It was refreshing he recognized the beauty of home making and the importance of wife and mothers role in the family.

As a Catholic that speech was a glass of water to someone dying of thirst.

The government has really called things more difficult for its citizens, imagine you work for 40yrs to have $1M in your retirement, meanwhile some people are putting just $10K into trading from just few months ago and now they are multimillionaires.

I know MANY catholic AND protestant women who have all sorts of degrees comes home to raise their kids during those formative years.

I watched the entire speach just over 20 minutes not the 30 to 45 second snippets the media want to enrage you with and it was excellent and spot on! Fellow norms we need to reclaim this nation again, I believe we are at the start. Be at Peace.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. The fact that this speech was allowed at a graduation is appalling. This event was to celebrate the achievements of the students. The achievements attained are to kick start a career. You can raise a family and have a career. As a mother, I took time out to raise my children. That was my choice. I am more than my career, I am also more than a mother. Yes, by far my role as a mother is the most important and best thing I have ever achieved. My husband also believes his role as a father is by far his most important role. To ignore the achievements of these young women and harp on about their personal lives during an offical ceremony is not ok. Michael - you are wrong to applaud this action.

I have only seen clips where they make him look like he is saying all women would be happy being wifes and mothers, they make it look bad, His real speech is amazing. Of course someone has to take something and twist it to become bad. Thank you for showing more of the speech and not just cutting parts you want to focus on to twist it and also knowing this was at a Catholic graduation ceremony also changes things.

Michael you would love Harrison butker. I've been following him since he played at Georgia tech and was friends with a priest I know. I love watching him play and I love now seeing him speak up. He is an incredible football player, incredible Catholic, and incredible young man. I can only hope to be a fraction of what he is.

As someone who doesn't quite disagree with everything he said, this was the wrong time and place to say it. These young adults are graduating and entering their professional lives. He should be celebrating and encouraging that. If he had said, well, along with building professional lives also remember to build personal relationships and ties, that would've been just fine. He sounds quite entitled when he says "my wife's life started when she became a wife and mother". Why did he not say that _his_ life changed dramatically when he became a husband and father. Did it not? Did it really not impact his own life? Why was there was no admonition/advice to _men_ that they should marry, make a family, and cherish and support their wives? To take upon more responsibility? You're not truly a man/woman until you marry and have a family - should apply to both genders. Otherwise, who are you advocating these accomplished women marry? What purpose did it serve to tell girls that their careers, dreams and aspirations don't matter, while telling men, you're good the way you are? Yes, lots of women will find more fulfillment in marriage and children. But they need to be able to earn a livelihood (the world doesn't owe anyone a living). This occasion should be celebrating their ability to go out and do just that.

As a Protestant and happily married young woman, I fully agree with Butker. And even though some people are saying "That wasn't the place to say those things, those women have just worked hard to graduate" -- I think that was the best place he could have said all that! If there _were_ any young women in that audience who were thinking _only_ about career and not about family, I hope that he plants a seed of doubt in their minds about that choice. I really think that every Christian woman should see having a healthy marriage and lots of Christian children as the highest calling and greatest mission should could undertake. Not the _only_ mission they can or should undertake, but certainly the most meaningful they could possibly choose. It's more important even than whatever career she's chosen, because someone else can be a doctor or a lawyer or a psychiatrist. But NO ONE ELSE but Christian women can save the future of this country. And not enough of us a stepping up and seeing that as the most important mission. I hope he got through to some of them.
