I've bought some imported ones along with secondhand genuine ones over the years. All been good with no problems. I think today, because of the popularity of these, some dealers are skipping waiting for the quality manufactured ones just to make a quick buck, selling junk with poor quality control. Tony

The correct number of tool holders, is like the number of clamps, n+1 is always the number needed! Awesome video as always. cheers!

Well done. Your gamble definitely paid off. Sadly I have not had such luck with one or two EBay purchases. It definitely is pot luck. 👍😀

Excellent analysis. I think its difficult to mess up the manufacture of a tool-holder, but I could be wrong!

I don't know how we can compete with this stuff from Asia. Would probably cost you £27 for a raw block of steel & postage to make your own. Probably worth the gamble to discard any truly unrecoverable ones.

I just bought three more so now have four of these. They're all well made with no problems. I thought of making one but a lot of machining required and I don't have a surface grinder to finish them off.

It's luck of the draw. I purchased aloris style tool holders last year and they were great. Got a few more last week from the same seller on eBay and they were horrible. The ground dovetail surfaces were fine every thing else is uneven, blued with metal swarf still in place after milling. Usable with additional TLC but annoying.

I have 20 and it’s almost enough. Once in a while I have to change something out. I made a 20 rack and I’m kicking myself for not making it the full length of my Clausing. It hangs on the back splashguard

I think I've said before that all 3 items I've bought originating from India were sent back, but obviously some people have better luck. They seem to have no quality control as in China. Sometimes though, it really is just silly things that are wrong. One of the things I bought was a surface gauge scribing block. The block itself & the longer scribe were fine but the shorter scribe was chromed & wouldn't fit in it's hole. Apparently, the entire batch the UK seller had were like that!!!! Why would any manufacturer do something so daft???

Hi Samuel My M300 came with the same S1 tool post and two holders, so I face the same dilemma. My toolpost was also missing the location pin. I note there isn't one on your Dickson toolpost. Do you have the pin, and if so, do you use it ?

Don't have it and don't use it. I assume could easily make one if needed though.

@samuelfielder Yes, I made one up on my first and smaller lathe, an Advance Lathe, very similar in size and form to an early Myford. I think the pin could be useful for certain operations, where any rotation of the tool post could end in disaster, such as parting.

Nothing wrong with those tool holders. I bought a Chinese tool post and about 25 holders and have been pleased with them. I have been using my tool post and holders for 7 years and they have been great. Here is my video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6newTBEeDEE.html
