Hi Alex, I really appreciate your videos on history of magic. Always happy when the bell rings. And in this one the running gag with the apple juice is great.

@@ArtofImpossible Alex, I am quite new to magic (although I am old). And for me your work keeps the balance of fascination between 20th and 21st century innovations and the amazing lore of the art.

Thanks, very good episode. Actually loved this video more than the recent ones. By the way, portraits of important people in magic (and their legacy for the art or their work on illusions/moves) are always interesting... Keep up your great work!

First, seriously how many times did you have to go and pee? While recording this 😂. Amazing and interactive content. In my personal opinion, if we want to see the negative side, yes, he stole pretty much everything, he was not an inventor at all. If we see the positive side, imagine all the people that wouldn't seen a magic show in their life, all the mystery and great Reactions he brought to all these people was magical. Somehow there is a theory that at the end nothing is original, everything comes at least from a tiny idea or inspiration from another thing. As always my friend such a brilliant video, keep it up and please do not stop.

Marco, regarding your first question I would just say : magician never reveals his secrets 😁 I agree. Also Kellar has certainly inspired a lot of magicians. And without Kellar, there probably would have been no Thurston. And, to be honest, biographies of 99% of great magicians have some stories that can raise a lot of ethical questions. It seems that it is the price that one has to pay on the road to success.

Hello, Alex! I love your videos! I know that every single video must be a pain to produce, but since you have a lot of knowledge in the field of magic history, i have a question that maybe you know the answer. Who are the artist/designer who created these poster art from the "Golden Age" of magic behind you, do you know his/her name? The Kellar/Hermann/Carter posters , for example. Maybe you could do a video about it! TY very much for your content! (sorry for my english, i'm from Brazil =] )

Thanks a lot for your feedback, happy to hear that you enjoy my videos :) This is actually a very good question. There is no single artist who stood behind these posters, they were produced by companies that used chromolithography - a printing technique that made it possible to reduce production prices. One of the popular companies was, for example, The Strobridge Lithographing Company that made posters for Kellar and Thurston. I am not sure, whether it is possible to trace a particular artist/art director for each poster, but this is definitely a good question for research! And here I have found a really nice article about the Golden Age posters, it is a review of an exhibition that took place about a year ago, a great read www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/art-golden-age-magic-posters-180974304/ Thanks again for watching my videos!

Oi Glebrao, Seu inglês é muito bom! (Estou tentando aprender Português :-) Você pode me ajudar?

Boa sorte! =]

So, was the term _Illusionist_ a form of Public Service Announcement to distinguish Magicians as fakery? It's also interesting to note that in the NIV of the bible, it distinguishes magicians as separate from prophets in a similar way, yet it relies on the trust and belief of that tradition to allow for that category distinction. A video on when that terminology changed or if there were certain traits/tricks that determined the difference between Illusionist and Magician? For that matter, when the term 'tricks' became popularized as well because that implies fakery too. He just "Imitation is the highest form of flattery" and figured, what better form of imitation, but doing something _exactly the same_ lol. Makes you wonder who the actual first person to make that adage came from 🤪
