Slughorn isn’t a dragon lol but nice theory! he was just using the dragon blood as a setup, to make it look like he was murdered or taken if any Death Eaters came through looking for him. that’s why the house was a mess. and it’s why he was disguised as a chair 🤣 also, being a Wizard is genetic, but it can get passed around and cancelled out when Muggles are in the mix. some of Hermione’s ancestors were wizards, despite her parents being Muggles. with a Wizard/Muggle mix ancestry, it’s kind of just chance as to who’ll get the gene. Snape gave himself the name “Half-Blood Prince” because he himself is a half-blood, meaning he is of Muggle and Wizard blood, and his mother’s maidan name was “Prince”. 🙂

Not to mention the movie kinda puts it on us quick. In the books, her arc is slower developing but it's more involved in the story. In the movie, she just seems like a whiny child except for some major parts in this movie. In the book, she goes from being obsessed over a celebrity to actually being a close friend of Harry. Not to mention, Harry starts to develop feelings for her at the end of OotP when he wants her to sit with them on the train back. Hermione has to remind Harry that she's not usually sitting with them and that's when Hermione figures out that he likes her. Something left entirely out of the movie which renders that pointless scene from the beginning of this one in the cafe with the date a useless add to the movie

You thinking he was a dragon was great! One of the best things about reading the books is you never knew how crazy they would get! You would have years in between books to overthink and re read and come up with plot twists. I did love that you tied in the dragon hoards to Slughorn collecting even if it was just a fan theory!

3:12 slytherins aren't always evil.. slughorn proves that. People that are sorted into slytherin are people who are ambitious, cunning and above all - purebloods. Its just that these traits naturally belong to someone who is power hungry and evil On the thing you said about being sorted into houses on the first day and never changing because they are surrounded by people like them, the sorting hat doesn't take too much account into what you are at the time, but what you mostly value. Many people think hermione should've been sorted into Ravenclaw because of how smart she is. But she got sorted into griffindor because she valued bravery and courage above everything else.
@chris...9497
@chris...9497 Год назад
Not all Slytherins are pureblood. Harry was nearly sorted there, and he was a half-blood. Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) was also a half-blood, as was Snape; Riddle could trace his lineage (through his mother) to Salizar (and as Heir of Slytherin and a parcelmouth was able to open the Chamber of Secrets) and Snape was the head of Slytherin House. That being said, there are no muggleborn Slytherins; every Slytherin House members has at least one magical family parent. And it is not unusual for muggle ancestors to be covered up and/or documentation destroyed.

@XxEvilTiggerxX
@XxEvilTiggerxX 7 месяцев назад
@@MsAppassionataI kinda like that she wasn't. All smart people being in one house is kind of on the nose and we all contain different facets. When it came down to it, she was just a very brave person who happened to be smart. Just like I am sure there are smart people in ravenclaw who are also brave. Like Luna. Hermione also had a very strong feeling about justice and what was right and fair. Which is also very gryffindor.

Sectusempra are powerful black magic spells that cause deep cuts all over the body, and could even lead to death. Of course, Snape created them to protect himself against the Marauders in any case, which is why he was able to cure Malfoy so easily because, as the creator of the spell, he also knew the counter-spell well.

Best reaction yet, this movie was not as fun growing up but as an adult its one of the best, it basically distracts you with real cool character moments throughout the whole movie and you feel like you’re just hanging out with the characters then it ends on all that built up that was happening in the background

Yeah I think the reason us as kids were underwhelmed was because it came RIGHT after - what I think - is the best action HP movie in the order of the Pheonix, and this movie doesn’t have a lot of that going on. As an adult though, I can’t help but like this movie above a lot of others. And I think might favourite moment in the whole series is just snape having to kill dumbledore. Hermione is a wizard because she has a wizard gene. Not everyone with a wizard bloodline becomes a wizard. Just like you can have muggle parents and be a wizard, you can also have two wizard parents but not be a wizard yourself. Those are called Squibs. Squibs are rare but there are a couple in the movies. One is Mr. Filch and the other is Mrs. Figg in Order of the Phoenix

The creatures that attacked Harry in the horcrux cave were Inferius - human corpses reanimated by dark magic, similar to zombies except that they were completely obedient to the wizard who created them. These Inferius were obviously created by Voldemort to protect the Horcrux, the potion that Dumbledore drank was a potion of sorrow which also made him drink water in which they were Inferius, so it was a clever plan to kill potential daredevils. The Inferius themselves are incredibly strong and resistant to many powerful spells, such as Avada Kedavra - they cannot be killed because they are already dead, Crucio - they do not feel pain, so the curse of torture won't do anything here, or Sectumsempra - they cannot be hurt because there is no blood in their veins blood flows. Being dark and cold creatures, however, they are afraid of heat and light, so fire spells are effective against them, which Dumbledore used

Draco was going through it in this movie too, he looked like he was on the verge of crying or vomiting for 365 days of the year. In the wizarding world, dragon's blood is a powerful ingredient used in various potions. Being a former potions master, Slughorn would likely have carried around a full set of ingredients, and he used the dragon's blood to make it look like human blood had been sprayed all over the place. Dumbledore is also an accomplished potions master, and is credited with discovering five of the seven used of dragons blood in potion making. And no, you did not mishear; the muggle owners of the house were in the Canary Islands. Slughorn was basically squatting in empty muggle homes to avoid the death eaters, but still liked to keep some of his personal belongings on display, hence the photos on the mantle. Quick side note, it is Norse mythology that has Fenrir, a wolf and child of Loki, father of other wolves. I'm uncertain as to his contribution to Ragnarok. The character in Harry Potter, Frenrir Greyback, is a werewolf, and actually responsible for turning Lupin into a werewolf as a child. Voldemort allows him to work as a death eater to increase the fear of the wizarding community to oppose Voldemorts will, ie do what you're told or your kid becomes a werewolf.

A half blood wizard/witch has one pure blood parent abd the other parent is either a muggle or a muggleborn like Hermione and Harry's mom. Pure bloods like the Malfoys and Bellatrix consider muggleborns to be as bad as muggles. I wish they hadn't changed the beginning where Dumbledore came to pick Harry up at the Dursleys and let Harry know that Sirius left Harry his estate, including the house they used as headquarters in the last movie. Dumbledore really read Petunia the riot act over how they treated Harry. Slughorn was hiding out in a muggle house while the owners were in the Canary Islands. No he's not a dragon..lol. Bellatrix Lestrange, Narcissa Malfoy and Andromeda Tonks are all sisters. Their maiden name was Black and they were Sirius' cousins. That makes Draco and Tonks cousins as well. Yes. Fenrir is from Norse mythology. Fenrir Greyback is the werewolf who attacked and turned Lupin when he was a little boy.

Not all of Slytherin are evil because that's not what the Sorting Hat is based on. It assigns students based on the leading characteristics and their similarity to the characteristics of the founders of the school, i.e. in the case of Salazar Slytherin it was ambition, cleverness, being pure-blooded or self-confidence, so these are not negative characteristics, but one that distinguished Salazar Slytherin. In the books, the ability to fly without a broomstick is extremely rare, and it's not like all Death Eaters can do it. In the books, only 2 people could fly like that: Voldemort who invented this technique and Snape who learned it from Voldemort, no one else could fly without a broom, not even Dumbledore. Collecting thoughts and memories may seem strange but this is about memories of a specific person: Voldemort, since Voldemort was destroyed in Godric's Hollow by Harry through the love and sacrifice of his mother Dumbledore realized that he did not die but would return and tried to figure out the secret of Voldemort's immortality that's why he had these memories extracted from various people by means of legilimency (the art of reading minds) because in the book the memories of Voldemort were much more focused on, and there were many more of them. This is how Dumbledore discovered his Horcrux secrets.

Probably seen this but this is about the Muggleborn thing. The basics is that magic is a trait that can be inherited, but not always. Most of the time, Muggle parents have Muggle children and Magical parents have Magical families, but sometimes, like a mutation, that can change. Magical parents having Muggle children is what makes a Squib (like Filch). Muggle parents having a Magical child results in Muggleborn wizards/witches (Hermione / Lily). There's not an explanation of how magic is inherited by a Muggleborn, but I see it as just a normal, albeit rare thing

This is probably an old discussion, but I watched first today. Your discussion on house assignments caught my attention. It seems like it is really based on classical behavioral psychology. Traits that people have tend to remain stable though changes are possible with training and discipline, however there would be questions if you had really changed or just learned to suppress or control urges. Imagine a person who faces a situation say a house fire, Reactions might include think and study the situation and devise a best plan to extinguish it (Ravenclaw). Show empathy toward the people involved, care for the occupants injuries, support the firefighters in their efforts (Hufflepuff). Fearlessly rush in to the burning fire to save a dog or even the firefighters (Gryffindor). Plan to buy the burnt property a great discount, sell water to the firefighters, maybe accidentally started the fire (Slytherin). So being placed in a house represents your characteristic to a degree. Many people have a mix of several of these. Which takes prominence may also change with time, experience or the situation.

I think Dumbledore could tell it was Slughorn by the dragon’s blood because Slughorn has an interesting habit of collecting rare potion ingredients, like the venomous tentacular leaves he was taking from the herbology greenhouse and the rare acromantula venom he extracted from poor Aragog. Dragons blood would definitely be in his potion making set Slughorn made it look like the house was ransacked and that maybe he was murdered so that the death eaters would look elsewhere if they came to find him- it wasn’t his house

Dumbledore knew Slughorn was ok because the blood was from a dragon not a human, so the scene was clearly staged to ward people off. That’s how he knew it was him. Dumbledore recognised the blood so easily because he was the one that discovered several uses for dragon’s blood.

My favorite unspoken moment of the series: They keep a piece of knowledge for book readers or even avid movie rewatchers. When Ron gets poisoned, Harry saves him using a bezoar. Snape taught him that in the first movie/book and again was written in the notes of the advanced potions book from the HBP, who we now know is Snape (his last name was Prince, halfblood mother). Anyway, the moment on the hospital wing that is my favorite: Dumbledore says "you must be very proud of your student Horace...using a bezoar" in the back you see Snape and Harry share a quick meaningful glance.... Snape a little surprised yet proud that he taught Harry something, and Harry both thankful but proud. Sweet moments to look back on after you finish the series 💗

Okay first of all Hogwarts is a middle / high School so Harry went there from 11 to 17 cuz he graduated at 17 cuz he's got a summer birthday you're definitely not the same person when you graduate as you were going into 6th grade but yeah this is just how this particular School separates students there are other magical schools that do it differently like for instance the one in America also separates by personality but it's not exactly the same as in there's not a direct Gryffindor equivalent like your family suddenly moved from the UK to the US or vice versa in the middle of your magical training there isn't a place they would know to stick you and it kind of makes me wonder if when I write my next fanfiction maybe I have somebody who transfers in from one of the other schools

Half-Blood means when you have one magical parent and one muggle parent. When you call yourself the Half-Blood Prince, I think the title is saying he is a big fish in a small pond.

@@henrygleave157 It's fully explained in the books, we do know (genuinely no snark, tone can be hard to read over text, so I'm not trying to come across any kind of way, but it's fully explained in the book that Prince is his mother's maiden name)

@@theirishslyeyes I was just theorising, though it’s not really snark considering how half bloods aren’t that high on the social ladder. Only just about muggle borne. So to be prince of half bloods is more a self insult than snark. Then again I’m just theorising.

Thanks for mentioning that. I always thought snape was just being dramatic and gave himself that title for fun@@bamflyer

Snape is the Half-Blood Prince because he's a half-blood, and his mother's maiden name was Prince. That's really all there is to it.

I don’t like it that Harry stood her up and couldn’t even be a gentleman and notify her that he had to leave. Hopefully for her character’s own protection. I love these movies but if the movie company didn’t hire enough black actors, the author could have insisted. Same goes for lord of the rings and many other great movies. Actually, the lord of the rings and hobbit books hardly have any female characters at all. Maybe you can write to her! 💕

I will say that this movie is probably one of my least favorites but it is still good. It is my favorite book though. The movie is actually so far from the book it's crazy. That being said, Order of the Phoenix is my least favorite book but I loved the movie. I think it adapted well with the on screen changes. Also, Hermione is a Muggle but she does possess magical abilities. That's why she got her Hogwarts letter. Children can usually show signs of magic at the age of 7 or before. (Example: Harry making the glass at the zoo disappear in the 1st movie). There are also a couple more events that were book only that happened with Harry that made him magical. This happened with all of the Muggleborns and wizards at Hogwarts.
