I would guess the relationships element was to invest the audience into the characters, so if and when, bad things happened to them (or the threat of), then the emotional impact will be felt. Plus, it aligns with the books.

Jaby is correct about the scene in the tent with Harry and Hermione awkward dancing. There is never a moment in that scene that they almost kiss though. At that point it is completely settled that Hermione likes Ron and Harry likes Ginny. They are just two best friends dancing to break the tension and forget they are in a terrifying situation.

1. In the books it was clearly said by dumbledore that considering slughorn was a professor of potions he obviously would be carrying an antidote of veritaserum always with him. 2. Even if you use luck potion to make some more it wouldn't work because luck cannot bring hardwork and skills that is needed to make such potion, it can only put you in a favorable condition.

I haven’t read the books yet but based on just the movies. From a writers/directors perspective. I get them wanting to focus on the teenage love stuff as that was their last opportunity to do so and have some down time with the kids. Because DHp1 is the trio on the run and DHp2 is the big war…. And I heard Steph say that as soon as I finished typing this 😅 Personally I really love the movies. I think they’re all great and very enjoyable family films with great characters and story. Maybe I would feel different have I read the books before but I’m more of a movie person than a book person.

My then-girlfriend and I found out about the book series when _Goblet of Fire_ was being released in hardback. We started reading _Sorcerer's Stone_ and were hooked. When the movies began, I loved the first two as despite some obvious changes, the _tone_ of the first two films were on point. Then _Prisoner of Azkaban_ went all gritty and dark with important book aspects completely omitted (worse than losing Peeves), and other storyline aspects being in inaccurate order. When Richard Harris was originally cast as Dumbledore I thought it was the best and worst casting ever, as he was the best person to play the role, but I knew that he had led a bit of a rough life, and I knew he would not last living through seven movies. Generally Michael Gambon is a good actor, but he had *no* idea as to the character of Dumbledore whatsoever, particularly when pre-release information came out that both he and the _Prisoner of Azkaban_ director willfully _never read the books._ When I first read that I thought, _Well fine, no problem: fire them, then get someone who knows what they're _*_doin'._* [They did not.] So as usual, the books are the real story, the movies were more interested in visuals and set pieces as opposed to storyline.

HBP the book is my favorite book out of all 7. HBP the movie is my least favorite out of all 8 movies. Yeah, in the book there's quite a bit of romance going on, but to me it never felt overbearing. It's like 'the things Harry would love to focus on vs. the things he's forced to focus on', kind of. The movie is the complete opposite of that. Which is really upsetting because Voldie's backstory is actually quite interesting. It also makes sure the Horcruxes make a whole lot more sense. But sure, awkward romance, let's go...

I am a Harry Potter fan who watches the movies atleast once every year (just like Steph), "Jaby, you share your birthday with Harry Potter, you were born to love it" :D

All that Teenage Romance stuff is in the book too. But the progress of the threat and danger that's lurking is also present throughout. The movie script, in the course of condensing it all to movie length, cut out the majority of that, leaving us with this lopsided narrative.

Ryan George is absolutely on point. Actually in the books its more balanced. There is no clear romance going on, there are just undertones. Harry gets jealous seeing Ginny with someone else and he tries to understand his feelings. Harry does get in trouble for almost killing Draco. He gets detentions till the end of the year and missed his quidditch match. Ginny replaces him in the crucial match and wins and thats when they kiss. Gosh the movies suck so bad!!! After the third one, they completely killed the HP books.

In the books harry got dentention for the rest of term for that spell.

Slughorn is a strong wizard and can repel himself from the veritaserum (truth serum). Whatever magic you try on slughorn, he could defend himself against it.

After 3rd movie I only liked 7th and 8th movies. And producer guy is right. I still don't know why Snape is calling himself half blood prince 😅😅

After watching this movie is when I started reading the books, because I was so dissatisfied with the way it ended, I assumed the book would reveal more, and boy did it. They removed so much from the movie, so just get the bare bones of the story.

I saw two Harry Potter movies in the theaters and fell asleep through both of them.

Even as an 11 year old watching this movie in theaters, I thought it was strange how odd the direction the movie took leaning in a lot in the teen drama, I was also like ummm isn’t there something big going on with Voldemort? Where’s all the high tense action? I still liked the movie, more in retro spect as it’s a nice change of pace and breather when watching the Harry Potter movies back to back, but as a stand alone in the theaters It was a bit lack luster. I haven’t seen the movie in a decade, I need to rewatch the Harry Potter series, I forget that it was actually is one of the only great movie series out there, mainly because I watched them in all in theaters growing up back when I liked anything my parents put in front of me.

It’s funny to hear Jaby mention not enjoying the first two movies considering those are the only two I thought were entertaining as a kid. The other movies felt extremely slow-paced and lacked that sense of whimsy and fantasy Hogwarts is supposed to have. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a darker story but that tonal shift happening so early on in the movies kind of killed some of the fun for me.

HBP is my fav book, they just ruined everything that's good in the books, Ginny as a character and how she blossoms, the whole mystery of who is HBP, and truly HBP as a book is actually more about Tom Riddle than anything else, this book is all about who he was, his family history, all the MEMORIES(most imp aspect of the book), they didn't show anything, they didn't even show about other Horcruxes, Its not like they were short of time, they could have easily prioritized to show the imp stuff. Even the romance was no where close to how organic it was in the book! Ugh!

There was a bit of romance but there was not a whole lot of it and in the movie they focused on that WAYYY too much. This used to be my favorite movie, but after I read the books it became my 2nd least favorite, the only one that’s worse is goblet of fire because the director was super stubborn because he barely even read the book and all of the really good things that were in the book was just erased. After I rewatched them I was quite disappointed, but that doesn’t make them bad they’re pretty alright.

As for me I read books first and watched movies out of curiosity.

Seeing that all spells in the HP franchise are rooted in *Latin,* I find it highly unlikely that they wouldnt study latin... Every spell, creation and useage of them, are latin based. Sectum means "to cut/sever" Sempra means "forever/infinity". Sectum Sempra literally translates to *"Infinite Cuts"...* WHY would anyone NOT think that would be lethal?

If you read the books, then I think many would agree that the Half Blood Prince was by far the worst HP movie. It’s been so long, but I remember so much from the book not being included in the movie that it ended up weakening the context of scenes in the film. Very disappointing since I saw the film at a midnight screening.

The film makers were just following the age of the people who have been growing up with this series and assumed that they would care more about the romantic pairings at this point in their lives. They were correct.

Half-blood Prince is actually my favourite HP movie. That's the only movie where I actually liked Harry 😂😂🤣🤣. Potion-drunk Harry should have been the main character..but yeah, lots of stuff don't make any sense in the movies in general...

If there is one of the books that DIDN'T need two movies, it's the last one. Nothing happens! Half of the book they camp out in the woods, hiding from everything and wasting time. So did the two movies. That story could have easily been condensed to just one movie without losing anything important.

I watched movies first when i was a kid and half blood Prince was my favourite one coz of these teenage romance then i grow up and read books and it becomes the 2nd least favourite one😅

Yeah the next two movies are the darkest movies cause they're at war but that's dumb because the half blood prince is the darkest story in the whole series and they turned it into a teen rom com. I remember turning to my friend in the theatre when the WB logo came up and I immediately said "I hate this movie already" I'm not even joking or exaggerating, it was right when the WB logo came up because I despise the films color palette. HBP has my most hated color palette. I despise the cinematography when it comes specifically to the color editing of the film. It's ugly, it's way way too gray the worst color you can use. I'm going to stop myself before I get trapped in this. Before I continue this rant I will gladly make note that HBP does have some good moments that are highlighted in your video here. ie the liquid luck scene. Dan Radcliffes acting is so good and I love that it didnt feel like a safe choice with the chouces made in those scenes, so, much respect cause thats not easy. But his best imo is still from Prisoner of Azkaban in the "he was their friend" scene, cause I felt that shit, I believed every millisecond of Dan in that scene. Like seriously they cut like all of Voldemorts story which for a time made this the worst in the franchise for me. Until Deathly Hallows part 1 for one single scene involving Wormtail.

All of these plotholes & mistakes are frustrating to hear for those who've read the books...coz 99% of these mistakes are taken care of in the books.

Prisoner of Azkaban is the best movie. And, I hate the Half Blood Prince movie with a passion. Just to pick one sequence... the stupid chase of the Death Eaters and the Weasleys that leads to the Burrow burning down, breaks the lore. If the Death Eaters, let alone the Dark Lord, could trace the location of that safe house, they wouldn't just go for a quick round of hide and seek and a bit of arson; they would have planned a raid to slaughter Harry and every single member of the Order there.

I didn't like the movies, they left out a lot of characters(Peeves), character build up, and also stakes were never as high in movies as they were in books. My biggest issue was they never give enough time or importance for Ginny Character as in the books. In the book she is very funny and cute & had a great chemistry with Harry, but in the movie they turned Ginny's character so plain Jane and basic & had no chemistry with Harry, the Actor who played Ginny did really good with what she got, it was the Writer who messed this Character. Also, Voldemort's back story is not really explained in the movies, in the book there is a lot more explanation on his motives and character. But the movie never did justice to Voldemort, Voldemort in the Book is one of the Well Written Villian in History, we can really feel the Fear he creates and Menace while reading. But in the movies he is just there as a Villian nothing great about it. So I hate the movies Barring the Prisoner of Azkaban & Deathly Hallows Part 1. They also changed the Final Fight scene in the Movies, which is the one of the best part of the whole book series. Harry asking Voldemort to Repent still gives me goose bumps and they didn't include that scene on the Movie. I always thought Adapting Harry Potter into a TV Series with 7 Season would have given the Book real Justice and now that it's happening I'm really excited and hope they don't mess up again.

The romance in Harry Potter (both books and films) is the weakest part of the entire franchise. I'll give credit that Rowling did have it make some sense with why Hermione ended up with Ron and Harry with Ginny in the books, even though they still weren't well written. But in the films, the romance makes no sense at all. Harry and Ginny were completely out of left field (speaking of which, it was very similar in the books as well) and I can't buy that Hermione would ever want to get with Ron, not with how they messed up the character to be a joke. And surprisingly... this is going to upset some people, but here we go anyway. Surprisingly, I ship Harry and Hermione a lot more in the movies (not the books). They have legit chemistry, they get along very well, understand each other far better, and they work very well as a team. A lot of it has to do with the performances from Radcliff and Watson, especially with the chemistry, but there are moments throughout the films that make me buy into the idea of being together.

Ginny was a *badaxx* in the books, she was my favorite character. They REALLY screwed her over in the movies. Aside from that what bugs me the most are the little things. I get that they have to cut out and change alot trying to condense a 600 page book into a 2 hour movie so I AM rather forgiving about alot of the changes HOWEVER... Things like Harry NOT having green eyes? Or untamed hair? They had hundreds of millions of dollars and couldnt throw in a couple of lenses and a hair gel? How fakking lazy is that? The eyes in particular is not a small detail either, they *repeatedly* talk about his *EMERALD GREEN* eyes, I think its mentioned in every book but the last one, multiple times in several of them. Its as much of a trademark as his friggin scar. Also kinda annoyed me that they that they cast Emma Watson as Hermione. Shes not supposed to be pretty, the book describes her with buck teeth, freckles and a crows nest for hair, not that shes *ugly* ugly but more of kinda "adorkable"... you know the kinda cute in a nerd way. Emma Watson was one of the pretties children I had ever seen. I get why they did it, cute kids sells better and once she grows up at the end of the movies, she'll be hot instead and THAT sells better. From a marketing perspective it was the smart choise... Still kinda pisses me off tho.
