2 things from my childhood I vividly remember, going to the pictures to see Star Wars at the Dominion Theatre and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, seeing those swords appear in each hand and the way she looks at each hand as 1 by 1 they appear, still to this day makes the hairs on my arms stand up and gives me that "whoa" feeling. IMO his best creation and the one I love the most.
Star Ace definitely nailed it with this one. This fighting pose is so fitting for Kali and the details on her are amazing. Definitely one of my favorite works of Ray Harryhausen alongside Medusa and the Hydra.
I was the same as you. When I was young and saw this I felt the eyes made Kali scary. Now I just love the flow of the scene and all the work that went into making sure every part was moving the right way
Nothing but spectacular!!! Sinbad the golden voyage was my first Sinbad movie. When I watch as a kid. Loved every minute of it!!! Keep these masterpieces coming!!!
@@WalshBros Without a doubt. I have had stability issues with premium figures in the past. I appreciate Star Ace Toys for going the extra mile. Thanks to your review, I would love to get my hands on this amazing piece sometime in the future. :)
Superb replica model, just as the Kali I saw at the Titan of Cinema exhibition in Edinburgh . I was surprised when they said three actors were strapped together , one behind the other to allow the other actors to know where to act against Kali in the movie. Just amazing.
These latest models from Star Ace toys are all excellent but Kali is the only one I have seriously thought about buying to add to my collection. It is such a distinctive figure in the perfect pose to remind me of her classic appearance in the Golden Voyage.
Kali is perhaps my favourite Harryhausen creation, saw the film in the cinema as a kid in the 1970s and have loved it ever since. Particularly interested to hear you say this piece is 1-to1 scale with the original model, definitely makes it more special.
Beautiful! Subscribed, liked, and shared! Kali is one of my favorites of Ray's creations. The dance sequence is iconic. I love her side-to-side head action when she walks and dances.
Oh man. Such an awesome movie and model representation. To have such multiple points of movement to properly animate with all the arms flailing about such as with the Kraken shows how advanced Ray was in technology. Big kit to be in a two box set. Normally most manufacturers would put in one box but the attention to care, reduce the chances of damage to each other, the pieces are separate. I don't believe I've seen this done before.
Terrific - all-time favourite Harryhausen character sequence - and possibly favourite film - and the animation shows how meticulous he was and concerned in accuracy in ensuring that the dance sequence was as close as possible by using filmed reference of Indian dancers. - made it all the more impactful for me.
The Mighty Kali Lives! The only detail I would suggest is that she usually kept the blades all the same way in the movie so the model with the one sword blade turned upside down is a little off but a model maker can do whatever they want with the Mighty Kali! 🗡🧘♀️🗡🤺
Kali looks great. Just recieved my Kraken and now I’m very impatiently waiting for Star Ace to announce Medusa. Weird that they’re taking so long to get round to her.
Your not wrong.. the attention to detail is first class,, my dad painted Napolionic Soldiers that were made from resin and I thought some of them were so good but the details on this one and Talos is so professionally done they are floorless 👌👌
I always thought that Kali is a stone statue because of its looks and because she broke that easily after falling on the ground in the movie. But I´ve heard Ray harryhausen say that she was made of bronze. What is right?
Listen to this one I was about 10 years old I first saw this movie and when I got to be older I had a nightmare was trying to kill me and chase me ever since then I am scared of the statue absolutely terrified original all three on VHS movies
Thanks, JB. I agree it is the dead eyes that did it, just like Ray's Talos in Jason and the Argonauts. The dead eyes were 'borrowed' by John Carpenter for Michael Myers in Halloween.
