Her voice is pure music; nothing more, nothing less. No vocal "gymnastics", no overselling, no over-driving. Just pure crystal clear music. I would listen to anything she sang.
"No vocal "gymnastics", no overselling, no over-driving." Yes...that's what drove me when I first stumbled onto F&F. It was the outdoors version of the Supremes "Can't Hurry Love". To see a young person with a powerful voice avoid the agonising melisma that plagues so many these was so refreshing.
chaspfrank, eddie willers, Exactly! I believe Mariah Carey gets the "credit" for starting that fad of "vocal gymnastics" that has influenced more than a generation of young singers. It was a real shame IMO because her voice was good enough at the time that she did not need to do that to be impressive. I guess these young women are more confident about how good they are. Instead of using the song to show off their voices, they use their voices to show off the song. Much nicer to listen to that way, I think.
Who needs “celebrity stars” when we have bands who are way better? These people are brilliant, and the lead singer’s voice is as mentioned above, pure.
Thats Magg's Maggie , she can sing any song, fast, slow, Up , Down, from high school already a professional! ! We are all stumped .. if there is any song she can't sing better?? Write in and ask her, because so far . . .
The singing, harmonies, and musicianship is fantastic, really beautiful. But until they WRITE 60 or 70 or 200 brilliant songs over about 60 years we will still need "stars" like Neil Young

The significance of this video can't be understated. It had been over 2 years since F&F had released a song. This was Maggie's return to the band, meaning it was the first time all three foxes sang together. It's also the first song to feature both Darwin and Toby on guitar. It would be a little while longer before we would be blown away by the five part harmonies of Darwin, Tim, Chase, Maggie, and Sammie, but what a way to come out of hiatus!
Maggies voice is like warm butter, just cant get it out of my head, have to listen to her every day. The whole group is awesome also, they should be national stars in the music industry.
The only thing missing from this video is a crowd of 10,000 on their feet giving this group a standing ovation at the end of the song. This is as perfect as perfect can get.
As this was the first song posted after they reunited to start recording again, and the return of Maggie after 5 years, there may well have been 10,000 fans standing and applauding when it came up on RU-vid, just not in one place . 100,000 views in 3 days.
@@bolark60 thank you very much. We just do our best, and Tim has become quite the Engineer and Producer. We have been friends since Highschool ( the 70's) and music has always been a common denominator between us. Just some Atlanta folk that still love to play, and now the next generation is with us. Thanks again
@@lynwessel2471 th0se songs, with Marty Bone leading the Band, were wonderful for us. maybe, even timeless. At least for me..Glad you enjoyed them. Wonderful memories
Yes. I haven't seen it on an oscilloscope, but I really think her voice is pure - i.e., with no harmonics, just as you find in classically trained operatic sopranos. That feature is what makes them practically indistinguishable, meaning that it's very difficult or impossible to tell which one is singing when listening to recordings because it's the harmonics that make singing voices (in us mortals) recognizable and distinguishable from each other. I don't know if she can hit a C6, but if she could, I suspect that she could even have another career.
I have been listening to this cover of Harvest Moon for a year now. It has become my go to version when I want to hear this song. The lead vocalist’s voice is hauntingly beautiful and perfectly coveys the story. Thank you!
-yes I think someone should warn her of the power of that smile. if she finds every male around her from 16 to 106 in mental disarray then she must have used that smile it is fantastic it's not even sexy. it just screams I'm as beautiful on the inside as what you can observe outside like millions of other males, certainly every one she has met I must admit to being quite enchanted by Maggie she proves there are 3 types of men in this world. those who have never met her, those who love her and those who have never met her and love her anyway Sammy is somewhat similar and chase is far more attractive than she realities and just like Emmy Lou and jewel. not being anorexic is one of the things that makes their voices what they are. foxes do not change or try to improve your looks. there is no scope for improving on perfection
I can’t say enough about each on off the foxes’ voices but my level of goose bumps on this is brought on by the magic in Maggie’s voice!! Such an Angel !! Thank you all!!
Maybe it’s just me but I find that it’s hard to just listen to one song....I end up listening to 5 or 10! This is one good cover band for sure!! Love this cover song, sweet harmony.
I'm a huge fan of Neil Young and a critic of him also. My favorite album was hands down shocking pink. My favorite song is. The needle and the damage done. Now I Neil Young is a very private person and holds his songs deeply. I'm surprised to cover songs. But what a wonderful rendition.
Yep...once I start listening to one...its over! I watch all of them....especially the Fossils. I like to watch how they play...their way of doing things. So talented!!!
In the history of ballads, there must have been tens of thousands written. Is this the best one of all? I think it could be, thanks to the genius of Neil Young and the virtuosity of these musicians. Things don't have to be complex or grandiose to be perfect. I sure wish Linda Ronstadt had done a cover of Harvest Moon (she did collaborate with Neil Young), but even she, the GOAT, probably couldn't have done it better than Foxes and Fossils. Blissful perfection.
And after listening to what I think is all of the Harvest Moon renditions on RU-vid, I think I can confidently say that Maggie is the only singer who hits each note just as Neil Young did in the original. It's difficult to do, but her brain is obviously wired in a way unfamiliar to almost all of us; thank God. (In the verse that ends " . . . I loved you with all my heart," she differs but unequivocally improves on the original.
Tim Purcell you need to create a Patreon account so we can continue to support your efforts. You bring such joy to thousands of people all over the world. We can't get enough. Please give us more ways to support you so the music never stops!
I've watched this a few times now and I find a deep appreciation for the clean fade with which Maggie finishes many of the lines. Most commonly you will hear a vibrato but instead she does this expertly controlled fade like she has a volume control in her throat. It's one of those things that seems simple but is not. BTW, I just quit smoking, and now you've got me addicted to this.
Looks like all us old guys are having a reunion on this thread. Maybe they make us feel young again. Whatever it is, keep it up. The sound is unbeatable. Tim, if you read these, I don't see enough credit going your way. The recording, the video, the arrangements, all outstanding.
Please Maggie, no matter what you do in life, please don't stop singing. You bring so much pleasure to so many. Your voice is an escape from current circumstances. We hear peace and joy, pure relaxation, whatever it's called, it is your voice. A gift. Keep using it.
You’re so right. Maggie has the most exquisite voice. She, together with the two other girls and the mature gentlemen, are consummate musicians. I discovered this band during these troubled times, and they have given me so much joy and pleasure. Thanks and love from the UK
For real, Ive been se sad and depressed with whats been happening this brings tears to my eyes and have some sort of faith things will be restored, hopefully sometime soon.
@@matthewk951 wow doom and gloom! its all a mental state! I'm doing great and enjoying everyday i have here on earth! this band is awesome for a cover band. they need their own material to break out!! but hey as long as they are happy!! great job
Another dose of the most perfect combination of voice, strings, and percussion that exists. I'd travel to watch you live, because when you stop making beautiful music, the best sound ever will have ended, and I'd like to see you perform before that happens. I hope I get that chance. To me, you are more than a cover band, so much more. I so look forward to what is to come. Thank you.
You perhaps sound a bit new to F&F. If so, be sure to go through the channel/website and look over the many other treasures they have spun up over the last many years. And be sure to look for Midnight Train to GA, and the sweet comment and photographer at the end.
@@conuregirl007 They have not had a live performance in several years, largely because the girls/foxes are in different states with their schooling or jobs. But they are considering how they might be able to put on a concert at some point. Maggie gives the latest on that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mMQZgrDebVI.html Happy listening!
Listened to it for the umpteenth time. Scott looks so chill on bass and mandolin, but chills are what I get listening to you all. Wonderful musicianship from everyone here. So happy to see all the girls, Maggie, Sammie and Chase together at once with their pitch perfect harmonies with no auto tune; as well as Scott, Toby, John, Darwin (an original Fossil!) and of course Mr. Tim Purcell, the master mind of it all. I hope you know much you've been missed and how much joy and excitement you've brought to us F&F's fans. I'm so looking forward to more collaborations and how many smiles of pure joy you've brought to so many people today and in the past!
Who needs the egotistical super stars to entertain us when you have folks like this. Vocals were beyond beautiful. Don’t know who she is, but she certainly can sing ! What a sweet tone. Would love to hear her and AJ Lee do a duet with this number. Both are magical vocalist.
Such clean vocals with perfect harmonies coupled with talented musicians. How have I not discovered you until now? Better late than never I guess! Thank you for sharing your gifts!
I can't stop watching this video. I just found the band - don't know everyone's name but the soloist has such a beautiful voice. All the ladies do. Thank you so much for creating this band and singing one of my favorite songs. Please stay healthy and big hugs to everyone.
The lead singer in this performance is senior Fox Maggie Adams. Foxes Sammie Purcell and Chase Truran sing backup here. Bandleader Tim Purcell is on keyboard. Guitarists are Toby Ruckert (slide) and Darwin Conort. Scott King on bass and uke. John Pike on drums. More than 60 great videos on this channel (click on Tim's name or the little round photo above). @@marcusteblano6376: Yes! Mark (and everyone who hasn't yet) please take Marcus' advice. Watching and listening to the band's (and the girls-young women's) development and growth over the years is a really rewarding way to spend a bit of time. Some of us spend a *lot* of time on it. ;^) I'd like to suggest that it's especially worthwhile to start with 14-year-old Sammie filling in for (the awesome) Amy Wallace, with the Mustangs, in 2009 -- pre-Foxes and Fossils. Try: "Mercy" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gsrODpCVx90.html and "Midnight Train" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YexM14LEL3w.html On "Midnight Train," the Mustang/future-Fossil Pips do great backup vocals, but it has to be admitted that their dance moves could use some improvement. (Grrr! It is just not possible to edit RU-vid comments into normal paragraph form!)
@@jimpaull731 don't forget Sammi and Chase whose backing vocals were a great part of this fantastic track, which was my entry to the world of F&F via the version by Josh Turner and Reina Del Cid - and it without a doubt one the best RU-vid recommendations ever as it started me down a rabbit hole of so many fabulous renditions
This is SO CRAZY INCREDIBLE ! I really don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it ... 40 or 50 ?? Everything is perfect ! I m not sure which is better this or your Lanslide rendition , I truly don’t think I’ve heard any music better , for real
These lush, flawless harmonies are my stress relief from a crazy mixed up world. Thank you for each and everyone of cover versions over the years. Near perfection in the production work, the drums, guitar work, keyboard and certainly the singing from Maggie and every other member of the group.
Alan Jorgensen on the same page at 48 years of age. I know shit loads of genres but discovering this song lifts my heart. Especially with covid19, hope to the world 🙏
I cannot believe anybody could surpass this brilliant Neil Young song but this lot have. Maggie is just wonderful on this. 100 times better than most groups around today. Keep up the good work F&F.
@@Ron898 Young's vocals are an acquired taste that I have never acquired. In my opinion, he needs to have a vocalist sing his songs for him. Because the caterwauling thing gets really really old.
In to my second week of discovering this band and this song just gets better and better. When Maggie sings “I loved you with all my heart”....it is just magical and sends shivers through me. That is 6 times in a row I have listened to it.
Phew ! I thought there was something wrong with me , listening to these guys (and gals) over and over again ! Love the choice of songs - keep thinking of others they could do
I agree Maggie absolutely nailed that part of the song. Her entire effort was flawless but the way she sang " love you with all my heart" was like she was putting her own personal stamp.on the song!
I'm going on at least fifty times a day for 2 months listening to this and Expecting to Fly. Over and over and over and over. I never tire of it. Especially now. Took a little 🍄 and it's the perfect song. So happy to find this channel. ❤️✌️
@@danielguilloton6975 - yeah, I know....I eventually did listen to it.... I'm still going to go with F & F's cover, just sounds better to my ears. Not going to say I didn't like Neil Young's version, but .....
Maggie's got a voice like melted butter. Soft and warm. Gorgeous. Beautiful harmonies from Chase and Sammie make this a perfect rendition. Thank you all for blessing us with your work.
This is just magical. Maggie Adams your voice is haunting and Sammie & Chase’s harmony could not be better. I have played all of the Foxes & Fossils music over & over after just discovering it but none more than “Harvest Moon”. I want you to know that I appreciate so much Tim & the bands music and hope that this music gets the applause that it so richly deserves. Now I’m going to listen to “Harvest Moon” again.
There is a band in Inverness Scotland called Rhythm n Reel who did a cover of Harvest Moon which I thought was so much better than the original but this is just perfection....
Our Granddaughter will be getting married 1 October 2020, the Harvest Moon. This song will play at their reception. She is marrying a fine, young man. May God bless you both, Allison and Alan!
You can download an MP3 of this recording here -- foxesandfossils.com/product/harvest-moon/ -- for a tiny price and play this version at Allison's wedding. I'll bet she and her groom and the guests will all love it.
I discovered you guys about a year ago, surfing the Inet, now and I can't stop listening. You guys and girls are incredible and probably the best I have ever heard, please keep up the great work! May God continue to Bless you guys!
As good as the voice mixes are, and they are indeed so sweet.... each member of the band/instrumentals makes the total sound so sweet. Their talent is clearly so well refined and they each have such an excellent feel. This is only ONE of my favorite Foxes and Fossils covers. Keep it up guys! (Sorry to have lost Scott. He was amazing.)
Such beautiful song...and presented that way too. For me better than the original... Saying that l do not mean the Mr Young did not hit it. It is simply that these brilliant artists have completed a version, which is simply outstanding and their own..fresh...and original Great singers...backing vocals...and musicians. Thank you for playing as one...👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
I have watched this video 25 times in the past two days. The harmony, the execution, the rhythm, the humble approach, and Maggie's (and back up excellence) voice(s) is something you would expect to hear when the heavens open up and angels sing. Thank you F & F. So, so much.
Dear John, Amen to that; listening to Maggie and the girls sing this makes any day feel like the best day of your life!!! All is well, once again. I'm so blessed to have found them!
I think that this song is simply one that finds a perfect fit with F&F. It has a peaceful nature to it that is beautiful, and Maggie is so great with it. If you have watched it that much in two days, does that mean that you are new to F&F? If so, you are a fortunate man: there are many other treasures in store for you when you tap in to all the other videos they made over the last 10 years. (I'm not sure that any can surpass Harvest Moon, but they are surely, surely wonderful.)
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! I have studied these videos multiple times and have come to believe that the artists are not human. They are aliens from a planet light years away. They traveled to this planet to demonstrate to the human race what music is supposed to sound like. If we treat them well perhaps they will stay. 😉
IM HAPPY THEY CAME BACK PLAYING MUSIC. THE LAST TIME THESE LADIES CAME TO ABDUCT ME I WAS SCARED... I JUST REALISED THEY WANTED TO TEACH ME HOW TO SING IN HARMONY...
I'm a 68 year old youngster that has heard so many great songs hundreds of times. I've come to a point whereby, these days, I tune those songs out. The fact that those same songs may be so beautifully resurrected and remastered that I now do a double-take when first hearing them is a true joy.
Soft, pure gold describes Maggie. Sammie just makes me smile and want to hear more, such great harmony. I am a big fan of these folks. I love their music, and their love of music. We all think we recognize talent when we hear it (it's always subjective), but IMHO these three girls have some of the best voices I've ever heard. Maggie and Sammie were magic together. Then I heard Chase, I was like ...what the hell? Someone just discovered Mamma Cass improved. All the "Fossils" are shockingly talented themselves. Thank you all!! Thank you Tim, obviously you're the heartbeat.
