Seven Years ago in March, I became a vegan. Not long after, I managed to convince my husband to adapt to a plant-based diet too.
We had just come back from a trip to Hong Kong. We had a most wonderful holiday and reunion with our family and friends. My 2nd published cook book had just become a No.1 best seller on the charts, our business was doing well. Yet, my heart was still feeling heavy, and my mind was not at peace …
So I had to make the ultimate decision after having seen through my desire to become a vegan, and then successfully converted my husband.
Together, we created a full vegan menu of 120 dishes. That September we worked together to turn our busy meat-orientated takeaway business of 27 years - Golden Harvest - into a fully vegan takeaway.
Harvest Vegetarian Kitchen was born on 1st September, 2016! Although it’s called Vegetarian Kitchen, we only serve 100% vegan meals.
It has been a lot of hard work, but we have honestly enjoyed every minute of it, and have never looked back. Lots of customers have become our friends, and a consistent theme of the feedback we receive touches upon how excited people are to be able to order anything from our menu, or to be able to enjoy a takeout with family and friends whether they are vegan, vegetarian or meat eaters. Knowing our plant based dishes are able to provide joy and convenience to our customers makes us so happy too.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you and express our heartfelt gratitude for all the generous and amazing support from our family, wonderful customers and community.
The world and circumstances for communities and societies everywhere has changed so much in recent years. Right now times are hard for the majority of us, but our commitment and passion to serve delicious vegan meals to our customers remains the same.
At present, there’s only my husband and I managing our shop, including preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning. But we feel content, happy and motivated, the same as we did seven years ago!
To enable us to run the business smoothly, we created an efficient pre-ordering system, which provides us and our customers with an organised schedule. It helps us to minimise waiting time and reduce food waste.

We have launched our RU-vid Channel, Rice Bowl Tales; with the goal of sharing delicious plant based, easy to make recipes as well as some traditional, popular, classic dishes.
We hope to help those who love to cook, providing inspiration for every day ideas as well as meals to celebrate festive seasons and special occasions with loved ones.
