I have been using the same crusher and I've discovered that placing a sheet of baking paper on the bottom underneath the strainer tube, base plate and honey/comb then another piece of baking paper on top of the honey underneath the pressing plate really helped with removing all the components after you've pressed it. When I did it the first time without the baking paper all the components where suctioned onto the wax and I had to soak it water to allow it come apart.

why would you remove them? it's so stupid lol, why even press the honey if you want the "clean" stuff that is void of that important nutrients

Oh, you are so right about the suction/glue effect of the pressed wax, especially on the bottom strainer plate. I now use a non-stick BBQ grill mat.
@bindihatcher9984
@bindihatcher9984 Год назад
@@ArdaiThomasPoker I use the crusher so I don't waste any as there is a lot of honey left in the capping after I have decapped the frames ready for extraction.

A little spray of vegetable oil on the press thread works better than allowing honey to get on it. Honey greatly increases the effort of turning after multiple pressings, (unless you intend to warm soapy wash everything between pressings.... Press works well with olives as well.

You can put a paint strainer bag ( Bunnings) in first then the wax/honey. It makes much easier to pull out the wax cake later. That dose a basic filter to start with.

What I do is fill glass bowls with the comb. Heat in the micro wave. Fill the drum to the top. Then press out. But I really like the powered auger styled press.

I got one of these a few weeks ago and had the exact same "difficulties". I laughed all the way through your video thinking "that happened to me to". With mine I'm going to make longer legs so I can get a drum underneath the outlet but it will also stay on the floor rather than lift it onto a bench.

We used what we called a spindle press. Basically a wooden barrel with a cylindrical acme threaded spindle. The one we had was very functional and easy to use to. We would press the raw honey, into a strainer, then into a filtering. Directly into a jar. We would always harvest the most pristine comb and cut it to display proudly in the jar with the honey. When you was wondering the name of the part it made me think of this. Thanks for that

Absolutely top bar hives are awesome, this press is perfect for the job , I even cut out the comb on my langstroth hive because in my honey supers bee frames I don’t run wire in them so I can just cut the comb out in blocks to go into containers for friends and press the rest for myself , I don’t sell my honey I just have what I need and leave the bees keep the rest for there hives ,

I'm not a bee keeper YET , but some sort of filter material between the press & the tap might work better. Maybe line the barrel with a brew in a bag bag. Made of nylon so would not absorb much honey & save the second stage filtering & time. Keep it up , love your videos . I plan on joining my local bee club very soon. Your videos have let me know what I'm in for. I want the honey to make mead.

So I tried both spin extractor and the crush extractor (press). I like the press one better, but maybe that's partly because the spin one wasn't well made and kept having the frames bump against the top any time you tried to make it spin. So with the crush extractor after awhile it gets very hard to tighten the top. And it seems like there's still some honey in the comb. How do you deal with it, and what do you suggest for when it gets too hard to turn the crank? And is it better to try to crush a big load? or to break it down into several small loads to crush?

LOL someone but a fire break round the BBM ears, nothing like being careful at the moment, everything wants to burn! That looks like a good way off salvaging honey from the lids. I'd feel guilty if I cut it off the frames and made the girls make wax all over again.

I like that - it looks like a great method for users of top-bar hives, who don't have frames to put in a centrifuge. I'd definitely run the outflow directly into the strainer though, to do both jobs in one pass. I'm rather ignorant when it comes to Australian geography, so I hope you are well clear of the fires - my heart goes out to all those affected, as well as (and I hate getting political) being appalled by the attitude of your government, particularly the bogan at the top and his equally loutish cabinet, who muST be replaced by his party if they are to stand any chance of future electoral success. Those putting their lives at risk to save others should be properly equipped with up-to-date equipment and getting paid (and well-paid, at that) for their service - with full pensions to the families of those who have sadly paid the ultimate price. Much more could, should and must be done, like remote monitoring of wilderness areas so that fires can be seen and dealt with early, including bush firefighting in all basic training for military forces so that any not deployed elsewhere can be thrown into the effort in more than a support role. I'm on a disability pension, but have contributed and will continue to do what little I can afford to support those charities that are bearing the brunt of the impact.
