Good morning from Jackson Hole, WY! The 2020 Acadia AT4 was actually a nice surprise for us. We weren't that impressed with the new Acadia in 2017, but the styling changes that GMC has made for 2020 and this new AT4 trim has made this vehicle much more appealing and we'd argue that some buyers may think of this more as a reborn Chevrolet Blazer over the "actual" Blazer. Plus, it's built in the USA, which for some buyers is reason alone to choose it over the Chevrolet cousin. We're heading to Ojai, CA later this morning to drive the 2020 Subaru Legacy next!
Adrian de leon We saw it there but other journalists were driving it. We choose the AT4 because it’s a new trim for 2020. We only had the Acadia for about an hour to shoot it yesterday.
black wheels help alot in the trails. When i think about an off road package on a vehicle I think about blacking out the wheels. Doesnt it just scream, "Imma hit this near vertical hillclimb with my acadia" , or "Dam I think this river is only a foot and a half of water Im sure I can make it"
Recently unsubscribed, this channel tends to nitpick the hell out of any American car and seems to base every car’s rating on its sportiness. Not every car is a sports car.
Giovanni Sosa You couldn’t be more wrong with your comment. We look at the segment every vehicle competes in and try to make criticisms based on competitors and how well a vehicle succeeds on what it was designed to do. We mentioned several times in this video that sportiness isn’t important for a vehicle like this Acadia AT4.
Thats cause American cars havent been able to touch the Japanese cars for 30 years and have now also fallen behind the Koreans unfortunately. Thats not Redlines fault.
@@AdonaiNate True. GM has been using the same layout across the board for years. Its functional but they can do better than this . Just like Lincoln ,Kia and Hyundai. Coming up with something new and modern just like the European cars its always good to eyes and to the touch.
At least they put 17 inch wheels on it instead of 20 or 21 inch wheels. What's up with all these companies building off road vehicles with 20 inch wheels that will not survive a real off road trek!
The Telluride is in a different class................. so yes. It should be. The Tellurides competition is the chevy traverse. Not an Acadia. This cars competition is more of a Santa fea or kia sorento
@ozibuns you make no sense The Germans do platform sharing too. 1)BMW X1&X2 are base on a Mini Cooper. 2) Rolls Royce is base on a BMW 8 series platform. 3) Porsche Panamera is base on an Audi A7. 4) Lamborghini Huracan is base on an Audi R8 5) Lamborghini Uris is base on a Audi Q8. 6) Jaguar F Pace share platform with Range Rover Velar. Should I keep going? The only thing GM don’t put enough effort to differentiate the brands, when they do platform sharing.
Old ass door chime, un-logical gear selector, center stack looks like a helmet. Ugh. Why does the infotainment interface look like it was designed by someone that was assigned the task of designing it, but they really worked in a completely different department and weren’t even supposed to be working on infotainment? Just not impressed with this thing. 😑
Yet one more reason why I would never buy a GM car. The design is clunky outside and just plain embarrassing inside. Off road with this?!? What's the approach angle on it, 12 degrees? Yeah... awkward. And who came up with that shifter design? Really, it is just absurd. In this day and age, GM should invest in a good group of designers.
what planet are you on? Digital gear selectors are EVERYWHERE regardless of what he says. Honda, Acura, Dodge, Ford, Lincoln and others are going all in on button or knob gear selectors. The new explorer has a dial selector. The shifter design actually makes a lot of sense in spite of the 10 second review he provided about that feature
@@shethjones4494 -- dude, i'm not referring to the form-factor of the gear selector. The "piano key" or push button gear selector is nothing new at all. I'm in the design industry (architecture/industrial) and follow all of these design trends that have been dug up from decades ago. This particular implementation is clunky, horribly designed, especially the (+) (-) buttons, and the location is not ergonomic. Implementations like the ones on Honda, Hyunday, Land Rover, Ford and Lincoln are good designs, not just visually but also ergonomically.
I just can't get past that interior. For that price, I don't understand its appeal at all. It just feels like I've stepped into another generic american crossover from the mid 2000s. It even has that same old school chime from like 20 years ago as you start it up.
Sheth Jones theres plastic in all the competitors, but it’s of a much higher grade, the design is cleaner and more modern, the switchgear is much higher quality, screen sizes and resolution are far better, not to mention way more comfort/luxury features like adaptive cruise and cooled sears
with the Rav4 getting the more offroad/truck design which turned out to be a homeriun for toyota, im glad other manufacturers are designing their SUV’s to have a more truck based look while offering more offroad features and less carlike. One thing i dont like is the taillights that look like a honda
Santa Claus0001 prices will come down after they sit on the lot for a while. Otherwise, just wait and buy a used one. Also, try a lease.you should be able to buy a used one for 25%-35% discount off of original price. I’m sure you could buy even cheaper with some miles on them. However, get yourself a used car warranty to cover major expenses.
Love your videos but 1) you talk too fast. Take a breath. And 2) for this vehicle and others without a gear shit, makes sense that D and R would be pull not push. Imagine if someone pushed D or R by accident. Better to have to take that "extra" step and pull it back.
GMC has just given up. Everything is so boring and over priced. Similar priced gets you much more with Kia, Hyundai, and virtually every other manufacturer
please stop. H and K offer more value than EVERY other mainstream brand. A loaded Pilot is 50 large- so lets stop the "only GM Suvs are expensive" trope. Loaded explorer is over 60k now. GEt a grip
@@shethjones4494 You're missing the point and putting your own words in my comment. Lots of fully loaded cars are expensive. So, you have to look at base prices and the costs of technology that is not included but standard in others.
@@sylvanusthayer2198 Im not missing any point. YOu indicated that H and K models as well as unnamed others are much better value. Not true. The Kia and Hyundai are anywhere from 6k to 15k cheaper than comparable loaded large 7 seaters. WHen you look at others, they are in the same ballpark as this model. THe old highlander topped out near 50k in spite of being one of the smallest in the segment. The Toureg Is larger, but still comes close to 50k large as does the Pilot. THe explorer blows this away in terms of top end price. So as I said your claim that you get far more for your money in all competitors is a lie
Regarding the push button transmission selector, think about how easy it would be to accidentally push a button in that area of the dashboard. By requiring a pull action it makes it much more positive and much more likely that it will be an intended effort.
@@kevs2good133 I'm not loving the Acadia myself, but sharing a platform is not the same as a rebadge. A rebadge means the vehicles are exactly the same in every way, except for "signage."
GM was horrible with that years back. Like when this vehicle came out. Saturn Outlook, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia. It was pretty much the exact same car with a different badge. I'm not a huge GM person. Had several problems with our past GM vehicles. But, I think they have done just enough to separate these vehicles so they don't just seem like they slapped on a different badge and called it a day. I'm not a fan of the design of this vehicle. The exterior is just... I don't know what it is that I don't like but something isn't right. 😂 And I think the interior is just bland. Looks cheap. And for the love of all things good, GM PLEASE MAKE A NEW CHIME! 😂 That damn BONG BONG BONG has been around for wayyyy too long.
I can’t believe they put transmission shift buttons on the passenger side of the vehicle. Well...actually I can. Typical GM. Buttons on the steering wheel or paddles, or a proper gated shifter would all be an improvement and safer too. Ridiculous.
Bernard Newsome If your disappointed with that small change, you’ll probably won’t buy any vehicles in the near future. If car companies switch their vehicles to button transmissions now, they would be as reliable as today’s gear shifter in the future. We had decades perfecting the regular gear shifter. Why not perfect these types of shifters as well? Probably in another 50 plus years, someone will find an even better way to change gears quicker. Then people like you, would complain about that transmission again.
I do not understand *AT ALL* why they didn't just make this SUV on the Colorado/Canyon platform. Have it be a real truck based SUV with a rear wheel drive 4x4 system, instead of having it be a front wheel drive car that is pretending to be a real off road vehicle. Also that shifter is complete garbage. Especially the manual mode. So you're towing a trailer down a hill and you're going to be reaching over near the radio to try to downshift? That's ridiculous. This whole truck is ridiculous.
The Terrain is the sister vehicle to Equinox. Acadia used to be the sister to Traverse, but since the redesign in 2018, the Traverse is significantly larger, so this is more of a sister to the Blazer.
"Off-Road Ready"? I guess if you're going to the winery for the afternoon it could handle that gravel road ok. Pretty cool looking for a mini van though.
That transmission shift button setup should make this vehicle illegal to sell in America. I am not sure why we can’t have a lever but I guess it’s all about having cheap electronic buttons.
I test drove a blazer a few days ago and I actually like it and considering it for my next vehicle purchase, I don’t get why everyone’s shading it😂 but that’s just my opinion
A Durango with a different grill as far as the exterior styling. It looks dated already. No idea why people pay that price premium for that horrible and bland of an interior. Interior brought to you by Rubbermaid
the interior has looked like this since 2017- how were you totally surprised by the design? And what comparable CUV is better inside? Have you ever seen the interior of the Pilot?
Nice looking truck but GMC needs to take a page from Lexus in interior quality and the Germans in exterior look. Bey is being nice with his review. Come on GMC get it together start getting with the times still the same old interior with chrome accents and charging out outrageous money.
I don't feel it looks dated on the exterior at all. GMC has never been about modern or cutting edge styling. I have been hoping they would restyle the Acadia to look more like their pick up trucks and thankfully that's what we got. Yes it resembles some Dodge cars, but it more so resembles GMC pick ups. I think it looks great on the exterior. I realize it's not for serious off-roading, I'm not going to be doing that anyway. After having a few cars for my wife (we currently have a Buick Enclave) I am looking for a family hauler that looks more masculine and rugged. I am considering the Explorer ST, but we don't need that power and firm ride. I'd rate the exterior of this AT4 a "10." I would go out and buy it today except there are a few nagging flaws which upsets me off and GM upsets me a lot lately. The shifter is ridiculous. I agree it looks good, but using it is extremely inconvenient. WHY NO PADDLES? Well I know why, cost cutting. I'm not going to sit and push buttons to change gears, how anti climatic and cumbersome! Also I had a rental car on a recent vacation that had adaptive cruise control and absolutely loved it! It's a huge shame this refreshed Acadia does not have it. I don't know if I can live without that for the types of driving we will use this vehicle for. Finally, I wish the infotainment screen was larger and I wish the interior was a lot nicer than it is. These things may keep me from buying this unfortunately. SO tired of GM cost cutting. As for the Telluride. I've loved the photos. However, upon seeing a few on the roads I do not like the looks of it in person as it goes down the street. Everyone seems to love it. I hate the square daytime running lights, I thought I would like them but I don't like them at all. The Telluride also seems to sit real low in the back they always look like they are carrying a lot of weight in the cargo area. I don't like it's stance at all. I agree 100% they are a great value, but I don't like the looks of the Telluride's exterior, imo. The interior looks amazing though and the Palisade is extremely over the top and gaudy in design. I'll be buying a car in the next few months, so far it looks like it's between the Explorer ST, Explorer Limited, 2020 Acadia or the soon to be released Highlander although not sure I like the exterior of the 2020 Highlander in pictures. I will have to see it in person, but I know it will have adaptive cruise and a traditional shifter and a nicer interior than the Acadia and get a lot better mpg than the Acadia or the Explorer. Just hoping it has a trim appearance that will look nice.
I hope you're joking about the price Sofyan! This isn't even half as nice as the Palisade or Telluride but it's same or more money?? Only a die hard GMC fan would buy this.
@@shethjones4494 Yes, as an option. But I was referring to this one. He suggested that it's already in the high 40's. THIS one isn't half as nice as the Korean twins, even though it's more expensive.
Not trying to be a hater but for their newest refresh, this seems incredibly dated and stale in their interior design. I feel like GM can do a lot better than this....probably.
Because nobody is gonna top a Jeep. It's just not possible with the current following for them. Plus just the endless aftermarket parts and reputation of the Wrangler, I feel isn't worth competing against. The only way I could have seen them attempt to compete with the Wrangler is with the Blazer but we all know they absolutely fucked that up.
If you are looking for a man van to haul the family around in thats also good on snow and dirt roads, get a telluride. If you are looking for something that you can go exploring in and bring the family with you, get a jeep (name your model). The acadia is just a budget xt6. This at4 trim isnt anything special Also the FWD default is for EPA fuel economy reasons. There had to be a big enough difference with it engaged and disengaged to where in order to get the fuel economy numbers they did they had to reset it every power cycle, just like auto start stop. This is probably defeatable via hacks like auto start/stop
Not sure why you'd compare the third row accommodations to the VW Tiguan, a vehicle that's eight inches less in length than the Acadia. A more appropriate comparison is with the 189" long KIA Sorento with more legroom in the third row than the Acadia.
Stephen Hendricks agreed! I own a 2019 Tiguan and didn’t think it was a relevant comparison. The Tiguan 3rd row is great for small children just like this Acadia.
The Equinox 2.0T with the 9-speed takes considerably longer than I would like to downshift as well. It seems like you didn’t have an issue with the 9-speed in the blazer?
You laid this out really well, Sofyan. Couldn't agree more about the push-button gear selector. If GMC is trying to move toward a pro-grade - what you described as masculine image, then scrapping a comfortable & intuitive console shift in favor of a convoluted button setup, is a craptastic way to get there. We shopped the previous gen Acadia Denali, "on paper" as a top choice. Once we drove it, we liked it. But it wasn't quite as stable feeling as our 2004 GMT-360 Bravada Final 500 that needed replacing (near perfect condition at 105K miles, broadsided & totaled by red light runner), and it definitely had less passion & personality in its feel & design. We didn't need a 3rd row, but were open to it. So we sat down to discuss, and we couldn't wrap our minds around over $50K being "a deal" for what it was. Long story short, we started over, shopped around & chose a Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate - out the door around $38K (roomier yet still a several $K less than GM's Terrain/Envision/Equinox triplets), and better handling with more features than the Acadia Denali offered, i.e. the 360 camera. The SF surprised us with more passenger space on all counts than our Bravada had, and just a little less cargo room. We'd purchased primarily GM product for the past couple decades, not out of patriotism or loyalty - we genuinely liked what we drove. But for the first time from our POV - especially in the past 4 years with both product & pricing - they've really lost their way.
You pull the drive and reverse so it is impossible to confuse them with the others redline review. It's the same thing with the c8. C'mon use your noggin man!
I have a '19 Acadia and really like it. I like the exterior changes in the front and headlights, but I dislike the change to the rear lights. The 9 speed transmission is important, but that push button selector would be annoying.
I just watched another review by "alex norman" and he said the Acadia at4 does have adaptive cruise and even displayed it on screen. He even showed how to set the collision response.
Lmao that plastic piece tells you all you need to know about GM interiors. How does anybody purchase these over the competition?? This car is 14 years behind it's time and that new transmission selector looks tacked on, old, and cheap. Start taking notes from the Palisade/Telluride and the newest Highlander, GM! Never bail them out again!
@@shethjones4494 Doesn't matter. The powertrain may be up to date (probably not reliable though) but everything else is just a class below. It's terrible and GM's pricing team is on crack 24/7.
I would’ve brought that Acadia right back to the dealership after finding that LOW quality plastic falling off in the third row, and would have SOLD the car.
Rhy Dynamic definitely the same here! I avoid domestic junk. I just bought a 2019 VW Tiguan SE and it is built durable / we will see how the Mexico built Tiguan holds up. It has a long warranty so I’m not worried.
Even if it could go down the same assembly line the difference in size is allot more than just rebadging it. Do you think they took a Traverse/Enclave and just hack sawed the running rails for the shorter Blazer/XT6? The floor pan is different along with the supports for a smaller design to withstand roof load tests. The obvious to the eye is the sheet metal of which none is shared. The XT6 will have some sort of adapticlve shock that the Traverse does not have so the susenpsinon geometry will change from the subframe down. The engine bay and supports are probably very similar unless there will be a 400 hp Vsport version. All of the suspension tuning will be different also. That goes to the closer Acadia too....
Great reviews as always and balanced. Ehhh I’ll stick with my Subaru more ground clearance and full time awd with better mpg. I HATE push button gear selection.
I was sold until I saw that gear selector. Omg. Why is it a thing to get rid of the original? When did it become a problem being in the console? 🤷♂️ I never saw a GMC I liked until I saw this front end. It reminds me of the 2017 Silverado but smaller yet still bold looking. It was almost perfect. That damn gear selector. Ugh!!!
if it is an auto why bother have a shifter, it is not like you are physically changing any gears, instead that giant stick is flipping through switches, whilst taking unnecesary space
