The steady march of progress continues at Hyundai, and the latest i20 is one of the best demonstrations so far of this gradual improvement - it’s the most complete i20 yet, and the closest Hyundai has got to building a supermini capable of taking on the class-leading Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo.
While based on the same platform as its predecessor, Hyundai has developed the car in every area. You won’t fail to notice the sharper new styling, with a wide grille and aggressive headlights that match those of other models in the range, the SEAT-style slash-cut flanks, and the distinctive tail end with its claw-like lights, a light panel that joins the rear clusters, and contrasting black element that seems to visually increase the size of the rear window.
There have been similar advancements inside, with a more modern design and the notable application of a dual-screen set-up not dissimilar to that used by Mercedes in its A-Class. Offering a fully digital instrument cluster is impressive in this class, while two different infotainment screen options mean there’s plenty of showroom appeal too. That doesn’t quite stretch to the interior materials unfortunately, which lag behind those of some rivals, and there’s not much excitement. Still, the overall package is pretty compelling, as Nicola Hume finds out in this review.

I have the previous gen. 2015 - 2018 model i20 with the 1.25L 4 cylinder 84hp engine, have had it for almost 4 years now and its been a very good and 100% reliable car. I did not like the rear styling of this new model, i find the older one to be better styled and as practical, so keeping my current one with the aim of reaching 300.000km (approx. 200K miles) before getting a new car.

I own the Hyundai i20 T-GDI 48V, in malta we also have the 1.2 non turbo/non mild hybrid option but believe me this engine is really awesome, hats off to the engineers.. I really enjoy driving it and I have driven it in sports mode and felt like a mini sports car 😃❤️ I'm in love with her ❤️😃😃😃

3:34 33mph, car suggests 6th gear, just try it! “Hit a hill” simply change down. I was taught to use the gears, that’s what they’re for! 😃

I hate that we can't get the I20 in Korea. We get the Morning (Picanto) but with out the turbo motor and some of the features. I love my Morning but wish it had more power and some of the standard features that you all get in the UK.

Id love an N line trim one of these! Hyundai of late really have sprung onto my radar. Always admired their rally heritage but now the road cars appeal to me. Good work Hyundai and enjoyed the vid Nicola.

This is a n line version of the basic i20 tho. It's indeed very good looking but beware of that specification cause the standard i20 will not look and feel the same as this n line version !

***EDIT*** Please read the update comment in this thread to find out what my MPG is now!!! 👌🏾👌🏾 This is my first car... I have the exact same car as in the video. Such a great little car. Would recommend to anyone. Everyone likes the car and it sounds great.. especially on the downshift in sports mode. I only get 30 MPG even in Eco mode. That its my biggest disappointment. I'd love to know how you get 44 MPG from it. I'm glad with the choice I made, despite how long I had to wait.

That's very poor mpg for a small manual car. I myself need an automatic and ordered a Yaris hybrid which does 70-80mpg in urban driving in the summer. With rising cost of living prices, spending less on fuel will help.

I had looked up this car to see whether it has the potential to be my next car a few months ago. It's got a lot of potential, digital display and 10.25 inch screen and a big boot for a small car. However I went for the Yaris hybrid excel as that has an unbeatable urban fuel economy of 70-80mpg in the summer.

Replaced my mk8 fiesta titanium x for the i20 n line. Both autos and the gearbox in the i20 is miles better. It’s more fun to drive as well. It’s such a shame that Ford cheaped out on the fiesta because the focuses are lovely to drive.

Bought one for my son and told him if it's still in the same condition in 2 years then the can have a go in the lambo, he's been desperate to drive it and the porsche gt touring since passing his test.

It's not hard to beat the Fiesta when here in the UK you can't buy it any more, which is why the Corsa has taken over but that's because of price, PCP deals and cheap leasing not because of quality. I will test drive the i20 though not sure about the back but it is growing on me.

People still buy new manual cars? You'd have thought they'd only be available in vehicles like the MX5 and Toyota 86 by now. Looks good and I'm sure it's a tidy drive but at this point in time a hybrid drivetrain shouldn't just be an option...it should be standard.

We love our i20 (currently 3000km+), car just is roomier than others in B class, which makes it no less practical than something from segment above, here in EU we got 1.2l DPi which is maybe a better option, unit is extremely-extremely frugal around 90 to 110km/h, to the point its economy truly rival hybrids. We especially like: *fuel economy *stability and peaceful behavior on highways *neat feeling on twisty roads *nice 8ˇ inch LCD with wireless Android Auto, which works flawlessly *backup camera is really useful, I saw significantly worse in times more expensive cars What we don't like yet? *rear parcel shelve twist on summer sunshine (after days under 24l of milk, it finally twisted back to its straight state) *stiff suspension is nervous on heavily damaged roads, even at low speed *windows don't close automatically with locking *start/stop system immediately stop the engine even after heavy climb (must be deactivated every ride)

It beat everything in the segment.. Everything. A1, Fabia, Polo, Corsa, 208, Clio, Fiesta, and the others... technology, space on board, sportsmanship intended as serious fun, sound has the sound of a true sports car, this thing kills me. second level autopilot. yes there is some plastic, but look the seats and the stitching, the leather inserts from the steering wheel to the gearbox. mine is practically full optional and it came out much less than the competition and it is a pleasure. thanks Hyundai that despite Electric development you still believe. A car with sports trim, WRC lines, F1 third brake light, sports exhaust, rev matching in sport mode, so but where is it? You have to pay more and choose hot hatch but obviously better performance but higher prices and needs. If you don't have to go to the track, this one is also fine with a child.. maybe play with the ambient lights! 🤣

Flippy (toggle) climate control🤣 is a very luuuxxxx feature😌....reminds me of the W221 and W222 S-Class also I don't think the interior is boring it's nothing fancy but it is nice and simple. Love to see it.

No it hasn't it's got the most buggy software I've ever seen. I don't mind cars with small engines but I do mind cars with a centre console that hardly works or works inconsistently especially when it comes to Android auto. The dashboard is too basic and a petrol gauge wouldn't go a mess.

Sure, it maybe more practical than a Fiesta but it’s trying too hard - the styling both inside and out is a little too fussy for my liking, them rear lights for example are ugly!

It's the engine that knows what gear to be in and a good driver has to override it, because an engine doesn't have eyes !

Mate I got the i20 2022 and I can assure you that the gear indicator is nothing special. You can go uphill or downhill, and the indicator will tell you to change gear at the exact point, meaning If you change a gear up, the car will struggle and will use more fuel.

Thanks Nicola but I still prefer my Fiesta Active, 0 to 62 in 10 seconds - rubbish I can do it in 8.4 seconds and I've got a slick auto-box. So No thanks to this machine.

What do you think about Hyundai suing their customers, brother, the new case i20 comes into service for 25 times, they riot, they sue the man, and instead of apologizing, our brother on the youtube channel @ sessizruzgar , they sued when the brand should apologize, and then the man filed a lawsuit.
