The “criticism” (i.e. unrealistic grades on PFF) of Jack Campbell’s coverage skill last year is way off base. There’s a coach on YT who’s channel is called “All 22 Films” who does a great breakdown of his film last year and he was solid as hell in coverage.

I put them between 12 &15 , and on the rise this season. Campbell is a beast , you’ll see this year.

Glenn has all the pieces now. He’s got youth, he’s got experienced youth, he’s got vets, he’s got talent. Now we can see how his defense is supposed to be run. I just pray that he will finally be able to contain mobile QBs and not to get cooked for 400yds by Nick Mullens again.

No the Lions LB group is not elite but there is still some upside left. Basically their one weakness is they can not cover the pass at the same level as the run where they are very good. No LBs terrorizing QBs or WRs here. Better odds the front 4 or back end usurp the LB group as the top defensive asset. The Lions LBs are big, physical and solid but we are not getting elite turnover numbers. Good teams can't be perfect. One speed LB rookie could make all the difference a bit later but we have a solid core.

Line, line backers, and DB units it’s all seems to be balanced. Hope Glenn can actually do his his job well because the players are there now.

People don't understand how good Barnes is. I look at the linebackers and Barnes the way i do with tight end and zylstra. Most of us thought wright Mitchell and zylstra were good enough. And we thought anzalone Barnes and Rodrigo were good enough. So you add Campbell and Laporta and you take average to good enough position groups to real possiblity to be great as units

I would agree that the LB crew has the potential to be the best unit on this D. Anzalone has been playing very well and I was not impressed with him 2 years ago with all his missed tackles. He has elevated his game and now with the addition of Campbell and the evolution of Barnes their ceiling is much higher now.

LBer may have been the best D unit last year, but I don't think they'll come close to the DBs unless Jack Campbell has a serious breakout.

My lord. What team are you watching????? Not a single player on this unit can cover. Tackles by LBs mean zip. Sims, Earl Holmes, Teddy Lehman and J Davis were 100 tackle guys-the tackles happened 10 yards off the ball. Anzalone is constantly out of position. Rodriguez wouldn’t make half the rosters in this league. Barnes is average. Campbell was a disappointment. They left a ton to chance at LB. It’s the next thing that needs to be seriously upgraded. While the short passes to the perimeter should be manageable this year with the upgrade at DB, the middle is going to be a field day unless the plan is to literally remain in 425 all season with an extra S or CB playing the middle of the field.
