Just want to put out that this is not an exaggeration, I'm an old school gamer with several extremely well known personal friends in the gaming scene. One of these friends interacted with Infiltration on social media once and told me he received 3-4 emails warning him about his interactions. This was years after all the apologies and bannings etc etc. Then I noticed almost no big names interact with Infiltration on social media, they mustve all got similar messages.

Diamonds are made under pressure and having the pressure of a crowd cheering/jeering and your opponent talking smack, is what made me want to get into the FGC in the first place. It was away to grow, develop that backbone I didn’t have, and take that confidence into other endeavors.

I don't think it's just fgc going soft, lots of communities have that 'Softness' going on. Honestly, it's really a reality of dreams vs. paying bills, I think. Take example of Jim Morris from 'The Rookie', got paid only $600 a month in the minor leagues when he was earning lots of money better than the minor leagues. Like it's ok to think about what you want to do until it was time to start doing what you were meant to do. Or maybe I'm thinking too much into it. Honestly, you can be competitive without being an A-hole to other kinds of players. Stay humble.

I honestly need to thank Chris. Anytime I watch any of his videos before I play street fighter, I feel like my thoughts are so clear and consistent. I don’t get mad, rather I always look for answers. Definitely one of the most powerful influencers in the FGC for me personally, also one of the reasons I stuck with Ken.

I think this is more an American FGC problem than an FGC problem. But American FGC have too much power on some games (hello capcom fighters, EVO etc...), and then it becomes a global FGC problem. There are pretty much no dramas between 2 non americans players/organisations, most of (if not all) problems in the FGC involve at least 1 american player or organisation. (disclaimer : hopefully I'm not blaming the whole american FGC, only the part of it that causes those problems, while having no ideas about who they are). Here's what I mean : I play strive in Europe, so I don't really see what you're talking about. But, I follow (and play a bit) Street Fighter, so I know that what you're saying is an existing problem. Edit : I just finshed the video (posted arround the half of it) and I am so happy you talked about forgiveness, because this is the root of the problem, having no possibilities of redemption is wild.

Something that bothers me about sponsors and them changing the rules because "they sign the checks" is money can't build community. FGC was bringing in crowds and eyeballs long before someone with a checkbook came along. Now im not a dummy i know money makes the world go round but there is a severe lack of respect for the builders of things that rich folk often don't appreciate and it shows. Then the after its all said and done the community dwindles the actual fans are left out and tag alongs fill in the gaps.

@@youtooberman9001 You speak your mind about the fact that a player irritated you and that you didn't like the match at all, apparently you got anger management problems, but in your day-to-day, you're not an angry person and you don't get frustrated over the smallest shit, except your competitiveness in a video game, but somehow now you got an issue? Or even worse, you call out someone else for being an obvious asshole and suddenly everyone is saying you need help. You can't walk up to someone and have a laugh about something mundane (not even offensive) without someone thinking you're a psychopath. This isn't just fgc, people are just weird as fuck now, that stick far in the ass. I just don't deal with the social gimmicks anymore.

I think part of the reason for the FGC being soft is that its sort of become a safe space for those who would consider themselves "Queer" or just don't fit in the mainstream.

I used to despise Corn, I thought they were just awful people lol. But now I kinda miss them. And it's not about the N word lmao, it's more about the personalities, the attitudes and the stories. It was about hype. What we lack these days is villains like Fchamp, because those kinds of guys have all been banned / cancelled. They've been purged. And while we still have some people with personality left, it's not the same if people aren't truly allowed to be themselves. Even commentary wise there's been something lost. Even though Yipes, Zhi and Aris are still goated, they can't commentate the way they used to. There are too many things that no longer fly and that's unfortunate.

I would have a more nuanced take here. Old FGC had some issues with casual bigotry/slurs, violent threats, and sexual misconduct. New FGC has overcorrected towards “trash talk is bullying,” words (not acts) should lead to permabans, and guilt by association with any “problematic” figures. Even still, FGC has seen fewer cancellations than other gaming communities.

1) Cancel culture doesn't exist. It's a new name for boycotting, and that's always been a thing. Dry up the pockets to force a change you want to see. 2) If the FGC was hit hard by a change in society towards being less offensive and more inclusive, than the FGC must have been more offesnive and less inclusive. 3) If one feels they can't breathe or move freely in spaces trying to do better, than that says more about the player than the space. At the end of the day, people just want places to be safe for women and trasngender people to walk around in.

Esports is great for the players cause I'm glad they found a solid way to make money off their favorite hobby. But since there's alot of money involved it is boring to watch. Go back to like 2009 thru 2017 and you will notice a lot of raunchy commentary that was all in fun or over the top pop offs. People that were actually rivals showed it more before, during and after the match. Now it feels so damn stiff. Next to no pop offs. Politically correct commentary. Rivalries arent as intense if they exist at all. Its just boring to watch

Been out of the FGC since before all this stuff happened cuz life then I started getting back into it only to find out just like everything else in life the weak and cowardly have also infiltrated the FGC and have made shit wack smh. If you're talking about people being cancelled for very minor perceived infractions, such as F_Champ, I don't think that makes _society_ soft. That's Capcom being afraid. You see, public companies are notoriously skittish about the controversy, so much so that they cancel themselves. What actually happens is, for example: In show business, scripts get 'cancelled' _BEFORE_ they're made public. Nobody has complained yet: some _executive_ makes the unilateral decision to modify or entirely remove a script because he _thinks_ sponsors might run away. Also, sometimes a company representative for one of those sponsors just calls and says "drop X or we're done", so, "X" is dropped. Having ideas and opinions is considered "dangerous" in show business and FGC tournaments are treated as such. What you're doing here is "dangerous" and it is so because _advertisers_ are soft. But perhaps you are correct in calling them "society", since in a consumerist society advertisers, product makers and service providers are basically society itself.

At the 2023 ggst finals we had a commentator say "faust players are goobers" and the other commentator reacted like he just said something way out of pocket. Speaking up when somebody is making deep personal attacks on someone they dont really know is one thing but not being able to joke or talk shit at all is terrible for the scene. nba players talk crazy shit to each other on the court and the nba still makes money so who is really pushing this? Gay and trans players get the blame a lot of the time but i think its grifters of all kinds chasing clout by any means possible. If the nba can have dennis rodman talk shit in a dress and still play for 20 years making money then we can do that shit too.
