Misses the mark???? Wth! 😂 this is the best helmet they have put out and your issue is factory seam lines! 😂 this helmet is amazing a must for any collector
Hey Ryan. My main issue stated in the video is actually the exposed battery panel on the back. Hasbro has hidden battery panels inside the helmet before, and it seems like a shame that they prioritized a pretty poor electronic feature, that most users won’t be actively using, ahead of what could have been a better representation of the helmet. Thanks for watching.
@@StarWarsCollected Still the price, the scale, the detail, this is an insanely affordable helmet for the quality you get. Especially in terms of some of the other helmets. This is by far their best. The clone trooper helmets on the other hand are a joke. Cool but crazy massive
I think it's funny when people pick on Black Series helmets. THEY ARE TOYS not collectible movie accurate props. They are meant to look good on the shelf and that's all they are for and they do the job well. I would be on board with them removing the electronics and spending more on materials and quality.
It's really only fair to compare it to other BS helmets at this point, and that's what I tried to do here. We've seen better from Hasbro, and I think things like the battery panel should have really been avoided, even if it means less "playability" because I just don't think that's how this product gets used. Like you said, they go on a shelf for most of us.
As someone who just plops them on a shelf, i love mine. For the price, they did a great job. They really need to scrap those useless voice modulators though. I don't know why they insist on adding them when they are soo bad. But besides the little gripes, I'm very happy that I finally own a Scout Trooper helmet which looks decent and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Bring on the 47 repaints 😂
Ha, you know we'll buy 'em too! So glad you love it! I too wish they would just ditch the electronic features. Maybe kids love them more than I think they do, but they just don't add as much as they take away in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Totally agree, they are a great value. My criticisms aren't comparing it to a higher end helmet, but the prioritizing of including electronic features in, like you said, a display piece, which causes major inaccuracies on the exterior. I think most collectors would say keep the electronic features in exchange for a more accurate helmet.
I think it looks great. I've preordered mine and can't wait to receive it. As for the seam lines, can they be filled with Bondo or something? Maybe the shine finish can't be done cleanly. I'm not sure I mind the seams that much, the overall impression from a distance is it looks great.
You absolutely can. You could fill the gaps, sand it down and respray it. However... it'll be hard to really get the finish to match without respraying the whole thing. I hope you love it!!
Rock On, Jonathan! 🤟🤩 I don’t own any Black Series helmets, but this one is calling my name. That helmet looks awesome on display! Thanks for showing it off! Great Review!
Great review! I have the RS version and while it’s very screen accurate and likely mimics the original manufacturing process, it lacks the…as you’ve coined the phrase, the idealized/in universe feel that I prefer. I had high hopes for the Black Series but the seams and covered ear holes is a deal killer. I wish Hasbro would abandon the electronics for a better overall presentation.
I hear you. It's totally not fair to compare to this RS or EFX, but as a Black Series helmet, I wish they would have prioritized the appearance over the electronic features.
Nice thorough review Jonathan. When you're purchasing a Black Series helmet I think the standard is Good Overall. Hasbro makes toys not costume/prop replicas. That being said, your gripes are completely valid with these.
Thanks Matt! I tried to review it based off what it was, a toy, and not a prop replica. Comparing it to other Black Series helmets, I think it just falls short, mostly because of prioritizing that voice modulator at the cost of a big exposed panel on the back. Still good overall, but just didn't live up to what I've seen them do it the past and just some frustrations over their choices. Thanks for watching!
Great review. I agree with the complaints. Yes it’s a toy. But at the level they are executing these products I agree that they can step it up or modify just a bit to accommodate the accuracy. Let’s all be honest, the vast majority of their demographic is us collectors and they know it. Management just needs to pay more attention to its primary costumer base.
Thanks Andrew! I agree with your assessment as well. I just don't think the play features get used all that much and most of us would rather not have them, especially when it comes at the price of weird battery panels on the exterior.
@@StarWarsCollected it just seems like a box to tick off for a designer at the expense of cutting a corner from the overall accuracy. I disagree with those saying it’s not supposed to be all that screen accurate. It sure a hell supposed to be. A simple observation to support this is the action figures. Those are freakishly accurate.
@@andrewm8950 Yeah, I don't think any designers are sitting down thinking "I don't want to design an accurate product". Things happen during production to make it all come together to meet their price point, I get that, but my main criticism just seems very avoidable and like their priorities were just out of whack.
Another great review Jon! Mine just showed up yesterday and I agree with all your points. The Voice changers all sound terrible anyways i dont know why they even bother anymore...
From the front, this thing looks absolutely awesome to me (no Scout trooper expert though). After having bought a Boba Fett helmet and a Mandalorian one, I am very much on the fence on these. To me, they are more high-end toys than collectibles to me. I am still eyeing the Clone Trooper bucket. But on the this, the price is not quite right to me. I am very torn on Hasbro Black Series helmets. Guess the most appealing is that you can basically put them on right out of the box and they look great at first glance.
I think you nailed it Sandra. Some of them look like toys, some of them look like replicas. I want them to be the latter, so when they have buttons, or panels, or weird seams, it just knocks it down to that toy level, and frustrates me. I wish they'd ditch the play features (as I don't think that's the primary demographic) and really concentrate on accuracy.
😂😂😂 I truly LOVE the smash button one liners! 😂😂😂 I TOTALLY understand the issues associated with the screen accuracy, but like you said, I too, suspend my scrutiny when it's Hasbro. That having been said, would you make the RS Prop or Shepperton Design leap?
If I found them for the right price, for sure! I think this is one of the coolest helmets in the SW universe, so investing in a top tier version does make sense. I just like to keep things as inexpensive as I can, so maybe someday! Just wish they had made a few key choices differently on this one.
for the voice changer, the expectation is too high . you know there is post production on voice sounds. so to think that voice will be like from the movies or tv episodes is a tad unrealistic.
I don't really care about the quality of the voice changer. If it was movie perfect, but that feature still came at the cost of a big battery panel on the back, I still don't think it would be worth it. I think most people buy these as display pieces, so how they look and display to me is more important than an electronic feature, whether it's good or bad.
How large is your head? Most of the black series helmets do not fit my large head. They only one I have purchased is the latest Darth Vader one that came out with the Mandalorian. That one does fit me. Do you have any experience with which one of all your helmets are the largest ones?
I don't happen to know a measurement of my dome, but at 6'7", I'd say I'm probably on the "XL" side? I would say that most do not fit my head, but I buy them as display pieces, not as cosplay or wearable items.
Im not sure why you're so hard on this helmet. Its not anyworse then the Boba Fett or X-wing mold. The X-wing has seams in a couple of places, with one in the front, and I've heard people complain about the separate piece button ruining the solid look of that box/square. The battery cover isnt really that bad either. The original helmets use decal stickers which stand out as a decal sticker with the white not matching and you can see the edge of the sticker like we can with the battery cover. There is no alternative option for a scout trooper that looks this good while maintaining the price. The proportions and detail is there. And the helmet can be modified by filling in the seams and then repainted.
Thanks for your comment! My criticism is that the electronic features are not worth compromising the sculpt over. Or if they insist on keeping them, they should hide the battery panel on the inside like they have on other helmets. Just seems frustratingly unnecessary to take what is otherwise a solid piece and put a giant panel on it when it could have been hidden or omitted.
@@jeremydrew1227 I think Black Series helmets are always aiming for a more idealized version of the designs, or are often based off more current ideas, like the TKs being closer to the Rogue One helmets with he actual vents rather than the stickers. It would seem that referencing the scout troopers from Mandalorian, where they don't have a sticker issue, would be more in line with that. Not to mention any other replica be it from Hot Toys, EFX, or even a Hasbro figure doesn't put unnecessary panels on the back. I think Hasbro likes to position these as role-play items, but I think 90% of the time they are going to be display pieces, so it would seem to me the priority should be presenting the most aesthetically pleasing version of the item, and making any electronic features a secondary concern, not to compromise the appearance.
@@StarWarsCollected I don't think you get what I'm saying. The battery panel mimics the look of a sticker and the obvious edges you see with the sticker. The sticker looks obviously placed on and so does the battery panel. That's my take anyway. You seem to be set on the battery panel placed there as being an awful decision anyway.
@@jeremydrew1227 I hear you brother, I just don't agree that the decal edge was significant enough to be translated into a helmet like this. Every other manufacturer I see, Sideshow, Hot Toys, EFX, RS Prop Masters and Hasbro themselves, do not translate that decal edge into their finished products. The panel should have been hidden inside, like nearly every other helmet they've designed.
@StarWarsCollected , Won't open it, it sits in it's box on the shelf Figure something will come along that I want, and will use it as a bargaining chip🤷
Thanks for the video! I'll probably still pick it up. I have a resin one that doesn't open, which always bothered me. I do find the electronics disappointing in general, for the whole line really. Just moreso due to poor placement here. Don't get me wrong, I love the black series helmets, and love the *idea* of electronics, but with how poor the electronics are, either step it up and make them worthwhile, or don't include them
Exactly! Why are we sacrificing the overall quality to include a lame feature that will barely be used? The priority should really be quality of appearance first, then function, then features.
These are not supposed to be made to be movie accurate. I know the description say’s inspired by Return of the Jedi. For this is one of those helmets I consider a toy. Not really a prop replica. I do like your honest review, only person so far to call out imperfections. I didn’t even notice that from other videos. Great review man.
Thanks Eben! I agree completely with you! My criticism isn't that it's not RS or EFX quality for a fraction of the price of course. Comparing it to other Hasbro Black Series helmets, I feel they made compromises and prioritized things differently than I would have. I think most of us would rather give up the electronics for a more accurate exterior. Still a good helmet, and a great value overall, but that's how I see it.
Hey John! Thanks so much bud. The shirt is from Heroes and Villains, not sure if they still make it, but I LOVE their designs! Thanks for watching and MTFBWY!
Ouch, that is really high for you guys! Maybe you'll get lucky and you can pick one up 2nd hand at some point or perhaps a local retailer will have them for less?
I got mine from a comic book shop in Dublin for e156 plus e6 postage. But they are all over Amazon now, so I'd say give it a month or 2 and the price tends to go down on Amazon by at least 25%.
@StarWarsCollected 100% The only thing that makes me happier than buying a new toy is buying it at a reduced price. You make your inner child happy, and you can convince your sensible adult self that it's OK to waste your money on immature things because you got it for a bargain. Winner, winner, chicken dinner 🤣
Hey Bob. Not completely sure I understand what you typed, but I think you disagreed with my analysis of this product. Fair enough, I just think most people buy these as display pieces, so compromising the display aspect to add electronic features doesn't seem to serve their customer. I also think it could have been done better because I've seen them do it better before. That's all. I hope that if you've picked up this item you absolutely love it.
When it comes to your tantrum, think about how awful it'd be to have that inside? You'd sweat into it and cause the batteries to short and/or leak, it creates sharp edges you could cut yourself on, and for something sold as a toy (not a prop replica) both of those are strict no-no's.
Tantrum seems a bit harsh, I think they are fair criticisms. Other Hasbro Black Series helmets have hidden the batteries inside, with sealed and recessed panels, with no electrocutions or mangled faces reported.
Nice opinion. You can't ignore the unnecessary battery panel on the back and how it could have been hidden, or eliminated. I think the market for these Black Series helmets is mostly collectors looking for display pieces, so I think appearance should come before play features. I don't think accidentally snapping the chin strap in backwards when trying to shoot a video invalidates those points.
What do expect from a $150 helmet. It's 95% movie accurate. You can't expect it to be like a $500 efx movie prop replica. And it doesn't even have electronics
My point is that they consciously made an unnecessary choice to make it less accurate. They've made the choice to hide battery panels on other Black Series helmets, and they should have done that here too.
Furthermore, even if they couldn't put the panel on the inside, I'm of the opinion that most people who buy these would rather have the helmet look more accurate than to have the electronic features as I just don't think people use them as much as they buy them as display pieces.
