Unboxing the new Hasbro D-O interactive droid. Show what’s in the box and how it works. (This is Part 1; watch Part 2 to see me take it apart to see how it operates inside.)
Beeping noises instead of an actual voice; the writers obviously had a different idea at the start. I hope they can add back his voice with an App upgrade.
Found this in box at the thrift store for $25 and had the same issues. I put two semi fat rubberbands on both sides of the wheel and it worked really well! Give it a go!
I completely agree! I hope they will renew their license and come out with their own. This one is cute but not worth the price point. I have a few sphero droids and I like that they can interact with each other.
You have to tap him on the ground to re-activate the auto-balance after a fall. I figured this out from reading the help section in the app. I hope this helps if you play with him more in the future.
I have to say, I’m really glad I didn’t shell out the money for this. The servos in the head are a really good touch, and I love the amount of detail they put into this, but otherwise, this is kind of embarrassing. 😅 I’m really put off by the beeping sounds, because he talked in the movie. I assume that’s actually going to put off a lot of buyers of this one. My biggest problem with it, though, is that it can’t seem to go more than a few feet without falling over. I am impressed by how he keeps himself balanced when he isn’t moving. That’s really well done. The trouble is getting him to move without falling over.
Yes, you have to lightly tap him on the ground and he'll balance himself. The app on the Play Store for Android is difficult to find as of this writing. It won't show up if you type in "Ultimate D-0" or "D-0 droid". It's really irritating! I had to go on a website that had a link to find it. It comes up as "Linkit" or something like that. It wasn't until today that the app icon shows "Ultimate D-0" but you still can't find it in the Play Store. I have no idea what the deal is with that. I really wish D-0 would have come with a physical joystick controller. I hate app controlled robots. They make it really hard to steer them around! Plus you end up looking at the phone more than the robot because you can't feel the controls like on a standard joystick controller because you have to keep looking at where your finger is. D-0's turning radius could be much better. He either needs a really large area to turn around or you have to keep going forward or backward and turn his head before you make the turn to make him lean far enough over to turn sharper. He's a bit wobbly and mine falls down a lot too. I'm glad you mentioned that he needs to only be picked up by that area below his head. I've seen people picking him up just by his head and it makes me cringe what it's doing to the motors and delicate mechanisms inside. Also when you place him in the stand, you have to make sure he's pushed in far enough that it pushes in that little white button which lets him know he's in the stand and not to turn his wheel. Overall he's pretty cool and the technology inside is pretty advanced. I just wish he had an actual joystick remote.
I don’t like app controlled robots either, but my reason is just a little different from yours. I am totally blind and some of the ap functions don’t work for me. I am an Apple iPhone user and I use voiceover-the screen reader for all Apple products. So far I think the all out award for good design four an app for controlling robots has to go to WowWee and their app for CHIP The robot dog. Using the app, I could feed him, I could drive him around (kind of lol!), I could check his battery level and almost everything else. In my honest opinion though, I miss the days when robots were not controlled with aps-that they were just autonomous, and doing what they wanted to rather than being remote controlled puppets. I don’t want a puppet, I want a companion.
Just bought this for my little niece and then saw alot of complaints about how he tips over all the time, which is really disappointing cus I think she would have loved him, but not fun if he's tipping over constantly... Return.
Honestly I'm kinda sad. I was expecting the product to be made by Sphero as they have made WONDERFUL star wars app enabled electronic toys. This thing includes a crappy Sphero that's why I feel as if sphero will not come out with a D-O as Hasbro has kinda crapped on them.
Wouldnt buy it. Its because these androids make sense in a sci fi movie but arent logically functioning in reality. This might be good with better and finer balance- But still has a bad CG for its capabilities. "Sometime in the future- The perfect Star Wars Robo-Toy, we will find!"- Coala Thank you for showing us though!
