Yeah, saving and preparing for your future is kind of counter culture these days. Friends thought I was weird for how much I put away in my retirement account.

Depends on your confidence in their future. I don't see them returning to 100$ range soon. Don't forget MTG is their big money maker. They were down last quarter. With CM I think they will be down again next quarter (or maybe ofset by Baldur's Gate 3 revenues). Im no near financial advisor but I think Hasbro is a long term investment.

The reality is though most people will never save enough to retire. Housing costs too much, cars cost too much. I make four buck less than my dad did at the peak of his income. HE afforded a mortgage, electric bill, and 3 car payments and still had money left over. a cheap apartment and cheap car payment are more than half my income. I pay 705 for an apartment and 500 for car. Sure I am increasing the money I make but the reality is when I get more money you will have lifestyle inflation. You need to have lifestyle inflation or will be a social pariah. Lose out on the promotion or job. 1-5 people die by 60. That rate of death increases the closer you get to retirement. Lets say I buy a house now that's not paid off till I'm almost 70. Would I rather buy the nice house and nice car, or save for a retirement I might die before ever reaching. I don't think people are being dumb. It's just the reality is wages have not kept up with costs and people don't want to be poorer than their parents. It's logical to pick something nice now than save for a future you might not see.

@@u13erfitz I see what you mean, but I'd rather see this mentality pervade sectors like stocks/bonds and real estate, where we will see economic change that betters humanity. This is just a game. You can be a greasy capitalist with game pieces and it hurts no one. People can proxy guilt-free in 99% of scenarios. @@Syne111 It still costs money. Money for cards. Money for transportation to events. Money to play in events. I don't buy packs anymore. It doesn't make sense. I only buy boosters to draft. Everything else is singles. I only play pioneer and draft. All the other formats require to much money to upkeep.

No it was a combination of the two, but forcing banks to give loans to people that shouldn't get them was the bigger issue because that will always drive the value of real estate down because you'll always have a higher number of foreclosures by doing that. No they shouldn't have been able to repackage those loans and hide their true value but the reason it was done on the first place was to try and make money from something that wasn't making any. I'm no fan of banks, massive corporations or the financial class due to their parasitic and destructive nature but the first domino was a government mucking around where it shouldn't. Don't force banks to make risky loans and 2008 never happens.

@@jamesstaggs4160 I don't think your first point is correct. Allowing more people the option to purchase homes drive up the price as there's a finite amount (with fewer being built). Foreclosures are also kind of the nature of the beast, that's why all of the banks have Allowance for Loan Losses to account for that. Banks sufficiently accrued for the losses on the mortgages from foreclosures, it was the investment arms that tanked them.

Yeah Rudy needs to make a dump run to save on storage and make the rest of his boxes actually increase in value. I was a bag-holder on an item in a game and ended up deleting thousands of the item while continuing the buyout before it finally did a 3x in price when the supply suddenly started to dry up. On the one hand I would have been rich if the 3x happened and I hadn't deleted my stash but I'm not so sure the 3x would have happened otherwise.

He is the one coming with F.I.R.E. design that led to Throne of Eldraine (was supposed to be their "healthy" powerlevel line moving forward, He his thje guy who asked on twitter "Why standard is dead". He is the same guy pushing Universe Beyond. He probably has a lot of friends inside the company for not having been fired yet. Guy seems out of touch and incompetent to make wise decisions to me. Oh he is also the guy on WotC stream that adressed exclusive Secret Lairs Walking Dead cards and was looking down on us for not understanding the potential that UB has while not adressing frustration of them making exclusive desings only available trough Secret Lairs.

Reprints won't be faster as collectors leave. Because there's no money in doing that. There's more money in having a strong secondary market. WOTC doesn't want cards to be cheap - they've just cornered themselves with fictional forecasting. So it's print or admit total defeat. It's one thing to cheer for cheap cards and high print runs. It's entirely another to delude yourselves into thinking it's economically sustainable.

When the collectors are leaving the prices for new Magic will have to come down. I used to collect sealed boxes, but when it started feeling more and more like a bunch of stones pulling me down I sold everything and now focus solely on playing (instead buying, sorting, storing, selling, buying, sorting, storing, etc.) and it’s like a veil has lifted. Best thing I ever did with regards to the game.

Because if left with the prospect of shitty margins and poor future prospects because of overprinting, they'll at minimum take the future prospect. Only reason we saw CMM retail so high is because LoTR did well. It was a hail mary.
