Thank you for the comment. IIRC the cam lobes are replaceable. I'm not a fan of splash oiling either, but based on the few I've seen, the oiling system in these particular engines works quite well. I've not seen one with oil-starved bearings; and based on the age (1960's) I feel they have proven themselves. However, I'm not comfortable turning any small diesel over 2000 RPM for extended periods of time, no matter the brand or oiling system used. I usually turn these Hatz 1200 to 1500 RPM on cement mixers and they seem quite happy at that speed.
