I bought this Logrite Junior Arch to haul logs to my cabin site. My logs are coming from a variety of different spots on the land. While there's still work involved, Junior's mechanical advantage makes it manageable.

Damn, dead or not, that's some big logs. Seemed a bit cumbersome unless flat, and still heavy, but damn. You're strong, but with that junior, you're cabin is gonna look as if it was the hulk that was dragging logs to the cabin. Good to see your not killing your back for the big logs. I got it way too hilly for a junior, so I'll be using way smaller/shorter logs,, probably 'pre-hew' them if I need to carry/drag em' any significant distance. Believe Oxbow farm does that at times as well, despite his oxen, so it might be worth it for you too if it makes any notable difference with the junior.

I'd totally take Tim's ox over Junior. I"m building with round logs so no hewing to speak of.

Wow Todd that thing is pretty cool. You’re missing the most important part though, the mule attached to the front! 😃 Man it’s all I can do to keep from jumping through the screen to help you. On the up side, by the time you get that cabin built you’re going to be strong as an ox. Beautiful location by the way. Keep Doing the stuff brother. 👍🏼

Don't ya know it, David, lol. Even though it's downhill mostly, my old bones are yelling. Once it's done, you'll have to make a road trip and sit on the porch with me and listen to that creek.

People think wood is all about chainsaws and axes but really, it's all hauling. I have a small axe and bowsaw when I fell trees. But Where you want to put your money is on this hauling equipement.

Thanks for the video Sherpa. This activity has me more worried than the hewing that I’ve started. My prime spot is uphill so the tractor will need to be involved...Count that a great workout for yourself!

Thanks for watching, Terry! What kinda hewing project ya got going? Haven't hewed much in a while. Glad I'm not hewing square timbers for this cabin, lol.

Survival Sherpa I would like to build a small day-use cabin on a beautiful hilltop with a great view of the Smoky Mountains. Interested in replicating the old methods used locally like the cabins in Cades Cove which were hewn flat on sides. Half dovetails were used. I’m just starting with some blown-down large poplars (and hoping I can slowly stick with it. We have a lot of landscaping projects and gardening around a new house that is nearing completion. I also have old cabin large limestone chimney stones to utilize for foundation. The old chimney was all that was left from 200 year-old cabin by the creek on our property. Enjoying your videos - keep them coming!

Now you're talking heaven, bud! Love those buildings in Cades Cove. Being able to hew that many logs is a job for sure. Awesome you'll be able to give new life to the stones from that old cabin. Thank you for the support, Terry!

Awesome use of leverage. And that tool doesn't require fencing/feed like a Percheron.

I think I'd be willing to spring for a percheron or a mule, lol.

I tell ya, bud, this thing moves heavy logs like nobody's business. For your operation, I think it would be a game changer.

Todd, looking good brother. Just wish we weren't on opposite ends of the country. I tell you you could pull those logs a lot easier if you were pulling them through the snow like we have instead of your t-shirt weather you have. Really I'm a little jealous, although we have had a couple days recently above freezing. Keep up the good work.

you need a mule instead of a sherpa. Great little cart to do an almost impossible job if you had to do it by hand. Thank you for the video, Todd

Or ox, lol. Check out Oxbow Farm when ya get a chance. Tim uses and an ox to haul logs. Very effective. Thanks, bud!

Can the front of the logs be secured to that first T handle? Maybe with a chain or even a bungee cord. You might have an easier time steering it through the bush. Really enjoy your videos and I'm looking forward to seeing the cabin come together!
@SurvivalSherpa
@SurvivalSherpa 6 лет назад
Had another friend suggest that also. I'll be adding a bungee to the front to keep em in line with Junior. Sure appreciate your support, Drew!

Careful about building a cabin by a stream. I did the same thing ( about 20 yards off a stream) and the foundation hole for the cabin turned into a well. I had to build at a different site
@SurvivalSherpa

Our frost line isn't that deep down here in GA so won't have to dig that deep for a foundation. I'll be using stone piers.

How many logs will it take to dry the cabin in?
@SurvivalSherpa
@SurvivalSherpa 6 лет назад
I'm figuring about 40 for walls. Five 20 footers for the ridge pole and roof support to extend over the porch. Then 4 more for floor joists. Some hewing involved at that point. Haven't decided how I'll roof it yet.
