Well, that's a deep subject, and until we dig one, we will just keep hauling water off of the lake. In remote Alaska, there are few options at best for fresh water in the winter. Melting snow works, but takes way too long. Most natural springs freeze up this time of year, and hauling water from town is just not a feasible option for us. Keeping a water hole in the lake ice, and maintaining it all winter takes a bit of effort, and hauling that water from the lake to the houses is really not that hard of a chore. We do it almost once a week, and the worst part is when the weather sucks. You try your best to plan around bad weather, but sometimes the inevitable happens and you are stuck hauling water in a blizzard. Such is life, there are worst things for sure, and I will take fresh mountain water over city water any day.
