@@adnap I guess yeah, their original version of hurt was very emo though, nihilistic even. And cash made that song about sadness and it was very emotional, despite the original purposely lacking emotion, which is an emotion in itself I guess. I do respect NIN a lot. Every day is exactly the same is perfect (also emo vibes) and that song about money, I forget it.

This song was released in May of 2002. Johnny Cash was 70 years of age. His beloved wife, June Carter Cash, died one year after the release of this song, and John, shattered by her passing, went to meet her four months later. If the American Recordings were all he ever recorded, he would be a legend in the music industry.

@@jollykone2258 My bad. You're right. The pale horse carries death, not the white horse (I was going for death). It's been a while since I last read this passage. Apparently, there is some theological dispute over whether the white horse carries Jesus Christ or the Anti-Christ, and some say it's the Holy Ghost. You're clearly in the Anti-Christ camp of translations.
@knightscroftsquire-muldoon
@knightscroftsquire-muldoon 10 месяцев назад
@@xzonia1In the original Greek translation the pale(light green and sickly) horse is death with hell behind it and Christ will return riding a white horse. The Antichrist will come riding a donkey(a sign of modesty) to mimic Jesus earthly body riding into Jerusalem as to show he is for the common people. Christ will return riding a white horse with a double edged sword in his mouth(the word of God) to vanquish the Antichrist and armies of the world gathered to kill the last of the true believers. But You're correct you just needed a little clarification, God bless friend!

This song is like a sermon from a man who's seen it and lived it all. He's simply saying there will be a day when you will be judged accordingly, whether you have been good or wicked and it was all in that book to read that's been around for thousands of years. The Album this song is from was indeed his last. He had lost his beloved wife June Carter a few years prior and his health wasn’t good. The entire album is about confronting death. Top producers were lining up to work with him and the album is very stripped down instrumentally but arranged so perfectly that a single piano or organ note creates beautifully rich drama in the songs. He does a lot of covers of some classics, including Danny Boy and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. But the one that cuts deep to listen to is the cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt.” It’s a perfect metaphor for his life, which included addiction, and the video is quite moving. The entire album is a masterpiece and a fitting final bow in an illustrious career and life, flaws and all.

I have always loved Johnny Cash. THANK YOU for reacting to this song; it is one I never heard. Amber, you are right, listening to him at the age he was; YES, his voice makes one want to listen to him, to lean in to hear what he is speaking about.

J & Amber, I'd recommend his "Ring Of Fire" next for your 9th Johnny Cash song!

Linda Ronstadt put out an entire album of lullabies and “baby friendly” adaptations of other classic sounds. It’s called “Dedicated to the One I Love” and she released it when she adopted her two children in the 90’s. You might wanna check it out for Baby Luca. You have so much to explore in Linda’s catalogue. I miss seeing her on your channel😢

For another great song from Cash's last I'd really recommend his cover of Sting's Hung My Head. It's an actual full-blown story so I'd really recommend a lyric video, Johnny tells the story very well.

I don't know if you have heard it yet, but he recorded a song called The Cocaine Blues. I think it is on the Folsom Prison album.

Your exactly right about the wisdom in his voice it's so expressive even his guitar playing is unique to him, Singing in Vietnam talking blues and Drive on are songs that I've never heard anyone react to. During the Vietnam war Johnny and June did a lot of USO shows over there these songs are about that time. Cash will always have my respect being a former service member, interesting fact Johnny Cash was the first westerner to know Stalin died as he decoded the Russian communications when he was in the Air Force.

You two need to react to Johnny's cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. It is absolutely haunting and I believe that it will bring you both to tears. So amazing that Trent Reznor,the songs writer, said that this wasn't his song,anymore, it was Johnny's. Please,react to it,soon. You'll love it and be very moved by it.

Good news! Jay reacted to "Hurt" about a year ago so you can watch that reaction right now. I don't think Amber was on the channel at the time though so it might still be a good one for her to react to (and Jay to revisit, now that he's even further along in his musical journey). Assuming she wasn't watching his reaction videos or he didn't play it for her afterward, of course...

@@johnplaysgames3120 He needs to do it with Amber. It will hit differently, now. Without Amber, its forfeit.
