@@t0dd000 no Christian can claim to know a persons heart, only God does. Johnny was a troubled man but to me it seems like he took his faith very seriously and he was very honest about his flaws. The closer you are to the cross, the more splinters you will get so I hope you know that the will to know God is what counts the most.
Throughout his musical career, Johnny Cash recorded a lot of Gospel and Gospel-based songs. When he was near the end of his life, Cash felt compelled to write and sing a song about God's return to judge mankind, based upon the writings in the Book of Revelation in "The Holy Bible".
Não, você não estaria não. O que nos impulsiona a ir a igreja é entender o sacrifício de Jesus na cruz, e o arrependimento de nossos pecados, almejando uma vida na eternidade.
it's poetic in part because so much of it is quoting the old king james, which is poetic sounding to us moderns. kicking against the pricks refers to the apostle paul's conversion experience on the road to damascus. pricks, or goads, were prods used for livestock. sometimes they would get angry and kick against them, which only further hurt them and enraged them. paul was doing the same thing before his conversion when he was persecuting the early christians. from acts 14:26: "And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks." the line about the virgins trimming their wicks refers to the parable of the 10 virgins from matthew 25. the virgins are the bridesmaids, who in 1st century jewish custom would greet the groom on his way to the bride's house in the evening with oil-lamps (hence, trimming the wicks on the lamp). in the parable, half of the virgins don't bring oil for their lamps. they are unprepared for the coming of the groom (Christ), who is coming to claim his bride (the church, his believers). the unprepared virgins are shut out of the wedding feast. its a parable about the coming judgment. the whirlwind in the thorn tree is possibly a reference to job chapter 38 and following: "Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof.... Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?" this was after Job had spent the last few chapters demanding to know why he was being afflicted the way he was. his answer, spoken by God out of the whirlwind, was to ask Job a long list of these sorts of questions first. in other words, He was telling Job that He has a plan that He laid before the foundation of the world. He's rhetorically telling Job to trust in Him, the One that has done or can do all the things He asks of Job.
You guys went from early Johnny Cash to one of his last recordings. You have his lifetime of music in between. Hope y’all check it out. Great reaction!
This is one of Johnny Cash's later songs. He'd retired from recording and as I've heard the story a famous producer came to him and begged him to start recording again. He agreed but only if he could do it his way. The result was some very powerful but very simple music, as you were noticing. If you want a real shock, read the credits on some of his American Records albums. The band is some of the most famous musicians of the time, who were happy for a chance to play with the man in black. A great reaction. I'd love to see you add one of his older songs, "I've Been Everywhere Man". It is actually a cover but he does a great job with this fun song.
Johnny Cash is a Legend! He is an Iconic figure for good reason! It’s obvious he’s a devoted Christian from his Music, and his belief was certainly strengthened by his struggles with addiction, and I give credit to June Carter, his wife, and he always acknowledged her devotion, for his recovery thru his faith and his Love for his wife! What a blessing to American music! The man in Black was pretty awesome!
The song is so well produced most people don't notice the extra guitar, piano and strings or synth that comes in at 1:50, the producers (when Nashville had no use for him) did not dare mess with that Cash rhythm style, Thats why he agreed to do the album. To have that much music and lyric left in him at that age, was given by The Man Who Comes Around. Love you guys' great job, wish we were friends!!!
I really loved how in the first verse he says how the golden ladder reaches down just as the guitar does those descending notes. The music is simple, but it perfectly adds punch to the words he's singing.
The music does the same descending thing when he mentions going down into the Potters Ground.... And also when the sings about the Words long written down....Brilliant song writing
You guys should react to the song Highwayman by the country supergroup The Highwaymen made up of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
@@jonm7888 I don't know when the appointed time will be. Today? Tomorrow? No clue. What I do believe is that He will come at the appointed time, and that time is only known by the Son of God. Because people have been saying the time is near for a very long time does not make His second coming a myth, it just means people have been foolishly guessing about something they have no way to predict. I think we need to live as though the time is now.
I grew up catholic, love the New Testament stuff, fire and brimstone, baby. This has become my favorite Cash song. very under rated song of his, not enough people have heard it.
I think this is one of the most powerful songs he ever recorded. This was one of his final recordings. It was certainly different from the earlier stuff he did, with the boom chicka boom sound that he was famous for.
He actually said how this song was given to him was that he had a dream of queen Elizabeth the second and she had compared Johnny Cash to a thorn tree in a whirlwind. He had thought about it for days and wondered if there was a biblical reference and there was in The Book of Job. Kind of like God Almighty sent a message to Johnny Cash.
A beautiful song, now I feel I gotta go to church tomorrow. There is a song called masters call by Marty robbins which is about a cowboy who turns to God. Has a great beat and paints a great picture. I’m loving seeing your reactions!
One Piece at a time or Ghost Riders in the Sky. I would say are my two favorites. That could easily change next week. All of his songs are great! You should check out a song called the Highwayman. It is Johny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Chris Christopherson. All four are legit and legendary badasses. Iconic.
what's crazy about this song is that he was in his 70s while singing this. he went from songs like ring of fire or i walk the line to such an apocalyptic song. it's absolutely a fantastic performance.
I love that you cover Johnny cash. He's my favorite musician, but I've listened to him so much it's hard to get into anymore. When it's new to you, it's like I get to vicariously hear it again for the first time
@@brianhueber3683 OK, I thought so. My mom thought that was th funniest song. Geez it's been a long time since I've heard it. Thanks 4 letting me know🍻
Awesome take on Johnny Cash and this song. You two are great! My father was a huge Cash fan (and a talented musician in his own right) from as early as I can remember (the 60's). In fact, I was at a Cash concert shortly before I was born. Mom said I was kicking to the music. Maybe that is why his music still moves me.
Man let me tell you. I always looked at cash being fortunate and average talent, BUT I HAVE BEEN STOOD UP AND CORRECTED! 1 Cash blew me away! I bow on my knee with acknowledgement humbled johnny cash is a true artificer of music!
Great reaction from both of you,,,,, Johnny Cash is very unique in his style,,, and always sings the truthes as he sees and feels,, them... keep on reaction ,, you guys are fabulous... love it !!!!!
Great video, my thoughts exactly, watching from Canada, Cash was man that had some time and struggled but had been raised in the church and when he could he gave back and sang for the inmates to brighten there lives in some of the toughest prisons in America, and even they could relate to him and appreciate him. They sure don’t make music like they used to. Cheers !
I actually have this album. It has amazing covers. If you Ever want to Hear Johnny Pour Out his Soul Then listen to the Cover of Hurt. It was Originally written By Nine in Nails, But once Johnny got a hold of it, it became his life story...He passed away not less than a year after he recorded the song and video..Its all visuals of his life. It will leave you Speechless...
One of my favorites is Lumberjack from when he was starting out. He was talking about being a bad ass but still coming off very cheeky. Have a great day you two and much love.
This was one of the last songs he wrote before he died. This is his swan song and it is a masterpiece. Prior to this, I think Man in Black was his best song.
I’ve always loved this song. It’s on the same album as his “Hurt” cover. He was coming to the end and he seems to be reflecting on his life and had turned his life over to Jesus. It’s so very powerful.
It's been told that when his daughter heard his version of "Hurt" she said along the lines of "Dad, that sounded like you were saying goodbye" to which he replied simply "I was"...
Brilliant portrayal of the end of days. A lot of the gospel songs he sings are sung in church, Johnny and Carter family gospel songs are great "were you there..." (...when they crucified my Lord) is still my favourite.
Just found y'all your. Everytime I hear this song I start remembering the words singing alone 💯🙂🥰 My heart turns flip feels when I feel it and the words in my soul with gladness n , sorrows.. Thank you Jesus he's coming soon. Y'all his Song also he did. Sooner or later God will cut you down. And the song Sunday Morning.. Lord help me
Its one of his last songs and he was reflecting on the end. He is in the Gospel HOF, Rock HOF and Country HOF. He was very religious, grew up singing gospel.
Johnny's young life, being a rebel n breaking all the FATHER'S rules. Now he's a messenger like the deisciples in the bible, which I haven't dusted off in years. Analyzing ur life, pray the man looks FAVORABLY upon you. Never heard this song. Thx for reacting to it❤️
Yes, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and Waylon Jennings were friends. I loved when they got together and formed “The Highwaymen” in the 1990’s. I’m sure they had a lot of fun playing together.
I was brought up Grace Bible Baptist and yes we are all thought we were going to Hell, we did not get that this is not the fate of those who love Jesus. We go with Him❣☝✝️🙌🎶
Johnny did only know church songs and hymns but when he returned from Army and tried to record his first song he was rejected by the world because there were no takers Always humbled himself by saying he is the biggest sinner
I always thought this song represented j cash the best and it resonates with everyone the most. "The man" is whatever or whoever you believe in coming to collect debts for the bad things you have done. myself much like j cash are spiritual people and I try to be the best I can. i do screw up, sometimes big time and fall off. this song represents that battle inside those of us that are inherently good whether religious or not that goes back and forth. no matter how honest or good you are your always a stone's throw away from falling off. This song really kinda scares the shit out of me sometimes and reminds me why as shitty as the world is becoming I should treat everyone like family.
Thx! Fun reaction! I think we are assured by the words of Jesus that if we are His sheep, we will know His voice and no one can take us out of His hand! Another great storyteller is Red Sovine! I noticed you reacted to Roses for mama. Could you do “Teddy Bear?” -Terry
This whole LP is awesome. Mostly covers including "Hurt" by Trent Reznor/NiN, Roberta Flack's "First Tim Ever I Saw Your Face", The Beatles "In My Life", Sting's "I Hung My Head", "Bridge Over Troubled Water" duet with Fiona Apple. This song of course, which is his, and also his, "Give My Love To Rose". This LP holds a special place for me. I found so much comfort in his "old" voice, in the tears it helped me shed in the first months after my older brother passed. I never expected that to hit me as hard as it did, I wasn't phased really when Mom passed or my stepfather, both of them first. I don't know, I was already in a bad place at that time. Four days after the best conversation we ever had, him telling me how much he always admired how no matter how hard Pops came down on me I always stood my ground. And just like that, he was gone. If not for Johnny, Johnette Napolitano(of Concrete Blond), and Leonard Cohen, I'm not sure I would be here to write this tonight.
Not hitting on anybody, but TNT is just adorable. I think this is the first video I've seen on this channel. Yes, there is something about this song. I literally get chills every time he says "...when the man comes around." Don't know what it is. It must just be the way he says it, and his voice. I don't think too many people would come across the way he does saying those words.
Johnny was a bad man in his younger days, but then he became a man of God. He tried to help people in prison, and people who had their doubts. God bless Johnny Cash! I know he is in heaven.
The best thing to glean from this song is to be ready for the return of Christ. Repent or go to hell, no doubt. Don’t be swept away with the stardom of Johnny Cash. The song is a beautiful reminder of the severity of God’s wrath and the power of redemption for those who will receive it.
the first time i heard this song was when i snuck into watch dawn of the dead and it was the opening credits song and i was more excited about that than actually watching the movie
Songs is about the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Revolations. And there appeared a pale horse, and the man who sat on that horse was Death. And Hell followed with him.
hi sunday morning coming down was recorded at the grand olde oprey in Nashville. you guys are good you should do 25 minutes to go from the folsom album
