Der Wiener Hauptbahnhof liegt im 10. Gemeindebezirk Wiens beim Südtiroler Platz. Der ehemalige Südbahnhof, der Ostbahnhof und die Laaer Ostbahn werden hier auf dem Areal des ehemaligen Südbahnhofs zusammengeführt. Der Hauptbahnhof kann Züge des Fernverkehrs in alle Richtungen abfertigen, da die Züge der Westbahn über den Lainzer Tunnel und Züge der Nordbahn über die Laaer Ostbahn zum Hauptbahnhof geführt werden. Es sind insgesamt 12 Bahnsteige in Betrieb.
Offiziell wurde der Hauptbahnhof am 10. Oktober 2014 eröffnet. Es erfolgte jedoch am 9. Dezember 2012 die Inbetriebnahme des ersten Teils. Als BahnhofCity wird auf 20.000 Quadratmetern in der Bahnhofshalle und unter der Gleiszone ein Einkaufszentrum mit Geschäften des Handels, Dienstleistungen und Gastronomie betrieben. Ebenfalls wird auf einer Ebene ein Food-Court betrieben. Die Anbindung an das öffentliche Verkehrsnetz wie Strassenbahn, Bus und Schnellbahn erfolgt über die Verkehrsstation Südtiroler Platz (so der Name bis zur Errichtung des Hauptbahnhofs),welche in den Jahren 2007 bis 2012 generalsaniert und adaptiert wurde.

The Vienna Central Station is located in the 10th district of Vienna at the Südtiroler Platz. The former Südbahnhof, Ostbahnhof and Laaer Ostbahn are brought together here on the arela of the former Südbahnhof. The main train station can handle long-distance trains in all directions, since western railway trains run to the main railway station via the Lainzer Tunnel and northern railway trains run via the Laaer Ostbahn. There are a total of 12 platforms in operation.
The main station was officially opened on October 10, 2014. However, the first part went into operation on December 9, 2012. As BahnhofCity, a shopping center with shops, services and restaurants will be operated on 20,000 square meters in the station hall and under the tracks. A food court is also operated on one level. The connection to the public transport network such as trams, buses and express trains is via the Südtiroler Platz traffic station (that was the name before the main station was built), which was completely renovated and adapted between 2007 and 2012.
