Got to say, I'm a clinical mental health counselor and Hobbs is on the right track about depression...yeah, getting up and eating something (and taking a shower) isn't going to cure your depression, but it will help. There are definitely things that will make depression better or worse. If you have a friend who's struggling with depression, one of the best things you can do for them is to just show up and make sure they're taking care of themselves in the basics like eating and hygiene.

I grew up goth and metal head and my friend Sara was 100% Henrietta. Not just her, but her mom too. Her mom was the kindest most lovable person and Sara had this "why didn't you let me die at birth" -type of relationship with her, and despite it all her Mom never flipped on her. We used to call her mom Julia Childs because she acted and sounded just like her. Funny enough I had a goth gf named Candace who went by the name Raven. Also Nevermore is a band, not just a clever reference to Poe. One of the worst things you can do for someone in depression is try to get them to "snap out of it" all it does is show that you only care about how uncomfortable they are making you. Just leave them be and make sure they keep up with basic necessities of living. Eating, sleeping, and bathing. Once they have that back under their belt they will eventually get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. You can't heal them, they have to do the work themselves. Learn about "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs" and just be there to support them as they climb back up that pyramid, just know it may take years for them to do it.

As much as I love the goth kids, growing up one myself around the same time, this episode does show the more disappointing side of the culture. A lot of self aggrandizing pretentious theatrics and hypocrisy, promoting self degradation and a lot of proud suffering for no reason but to say "I'm different." It held back the creative and meaningful artistic side of goths, which was what I found a lot of inspiration and companionship from. My favorite goth films, Donny Darko and The Crow were more about that beautiful sadness that Butters talked about, with my favorite line from the Crow that I still quote to this day being "It can't rain all the time." Beautiful, somber, poetic and hopeful. I hope you check that movie out sometime. Donnie Darko the Director's Cut is also a certified banger, but a lot of people miss the point of how it's about accepting death and letting go of control, bringing good to the world and standing up for yourself and others. I don't know if you can make content from this, but I hope you at least understand goths aren't all negative assholes, and the movement has a lot of positive representation. Edward Scissorhands is also my favorite Christmas movie, and I highly recommend.
