THE THING with Marner is if he does what he usually does in the regular season it makes it difficult to trade him esp with his no trade. However if he does the usual and disappears in the playoffs (esp if its another 1st round exit) I just dont see how u can justify resigning him. I know nobody wants to lose him for nothing but I feel like we're going to be forced to lose him for nothing.

I feel JJ is waiting till he makes the deals he wants to improve the team over last year before he gets a new GM replacement and turns the reigns over and lose control to a GM making decisions as his position dictates.......even if JJ does the hiring. Best he make them now without possible headaches.
The Canucks are happy to fly below the radar. We know that the Oil are media darlings but the Canucks are going to surprise a lot of people again this year (i.e. people are STILL taking them lightly).

oilers did goof with the cap by signing Perry, Stetcher and maybe jeff brown(i do like him and his size and grit)but money should have been used for broberg and holloway
How so? Those are basically league min contracts and can be buried at no cost, what's the negative of bringing in these depth signings? They don't impact the signings for Broberg or Holloway in any way.
It will be much harder for the Oilers to get back to the Cup Final. Vegas/Avs/Stars will bounce back from disappointing playoff exits. Knoblauch had a phenomenal rookie coaching year, but he will have to face adversity coaching them in his sophomore year. Knoblauch coaching philosophy won't be under the radar, as WCF teams will have better scouting reports of his coaching in his 2nd year. The Oilers overachieved as the hockey purist's know it.
Interesting that you say they overachieved, they were one of the favorites to win the cup at the beginning of last season. It was their horrid start that was the most surprising thing. Since they made the coaching change, they were uber consistent and the best team in the league. It's hard for any team every year to go far in the playoffs.

Lets see how the season plays out shall we - and I guarantee you that (who do you cheer for?) your team made a trade with the Oilers, and literally SWAPPED entire rosters - you'd be over the moon and extolling here, insta, X, and every other social platform how your team would be winning the Cup. Oilers will not have that easier path through the West again(Kings were clueless, Canucks played hard in a full 7 games against without Demko, Stars offense just disappeared). Oilers did not have to go through Vegas/Avs, which last times both teams knocked out the Oilers. We will see what the Oilers do this season as they will have to face a lot more adversity than they dealt with last season. If they don't match going back to the Cup Final, then they are not much better than the '06 team was losing to the Canes!
No. Leafs addressed their coaching issues(hiring Berube), improved their goaltending(subtracted Samsonov and signed Stolarz), added needed D in Tanev, OEL and Hakanpaa, brought back Domi. The Leafs should still be a top 5 scoring team, but now they have a Cup winning coach that has good experience coaching his teams to play good team defense and play smart, while reducing the carelessness of playing flashy. Oilers took advantage of their playoff opponents, but ultimately came up one game short of winning the Cup. Overall perspective, I don't think they did enough during the offseason. The D group needed to be improved/changed, yet they are still stuck with Nurse with the dumbest overpaid contract in the NHL. While Stuart Skinner bounced back at times, I'm not sure Pickard should be backing up Skinner again? I think the Oilers should have acquired a better goalie to push/challenge Skinner. And NHL history has shown the majority of Cup Final losers didn't go so well the next coming season
coaching issues? Look at Sheldon Keefe's W-L record, I don't think he was the issue. Toronto, like in all years past, have just been playoff under achievers, year after year. They have some guys there that just do not show the playoff grit that is needed when it needs to be shown. John Tavares is a way over paid under achieving captain. Great regular season team, horrible playoff team....the history has shown that in the last 30 years. The best team they had was the 92-93 version, that was an amazing team, but since then....
Leafs are a good scoring team until playoffs. Haven't scored more than 3 goals since game 4 against tampa. Maybe the coaching change will help with that. I agree the Oilers should improve the defense but it's been shown good enough to win a cup and they'll likely make those moves at the trade deadline. Hypothetically they have the best top 6 currently with those additions so saying they didn't do enough is an interesting take lol

Reason being because he doesn’t know how to coach his team to be more physical… you know that thing you need to win the cup? Playing hard nose hockey and being gritty. That comes down to both players AND coaches, so yes, getting rid of Keefe fixes part of that problem

Yep - recent history especially eh bud? Who was the losing team in the Cup final last year? It's actually the opposite - the team that wins the Cup doesn't do too well afterwards (Tampa Bay, Colorado, Vegas). As for your 'defense' - Hak is hurt, Tanev is old and he's hurt a lot, OEL was bought out in VCR for a reason and only excelled on a superior, hard forechecking team (you ain't one in case you didn't know), Stolarz is a 31 year old career backup and I'd take Skinner over Joseph Woll any day. Oh, and for Nurse, bad contract - sure, but worst? Not even close - worst contract is Jonathan Huberdeau in Calgary - 10.5m per season for 7 more years and he's not even a .6/game point per player, doesn't play tough, doesn't check well, and never did. Nurse can be very affective but at times he is out to lunch - but he's a much better dman than Huberdeau is a forward - nice try though
I like what my Canucks did and they may not be finished. Oilers certainly, but my issue with the Oil is there unbelievable inconsistancy, also are they good enough to win it all in goal and D?

Yep - it was a complete domination, and I'll say to you what I said to all Canuck fans after game 5 - you lose - we were clearly not nearly at our best - you guys played unbelievable - and you need a last minute goal on OUR backup goalie to beat us! What happened in game 6 when we were feeling better - a FIVE to ONE beatdown! What happened in game 7 - a FOUR or FIVE to nothing beatdown in your building (Tocchet would have pulled the goalie and we would've gotten at least one EN goal) BUUUUUUUUUT Mcleod inexplicably gave the puck away with 9 minutes left to let you back in the game, the you got a flukey 2nd one, then you never got a shot on goal in the last 4 minutes of the game, half of which was played with an extra attacker - so don't give me this 'barely beat the Canucks crap lol
Really pathetic attempt to badmouth the Oilers. Number one, it's first overalls, not first rounders, get that right. Secondly, losing in game 7 of the SCF is not the same as the first round.
@@davidkipp77 What are you talking about? You seem a bit lost or you're just really bad at explaining what you're trying to say. Every team is made up of a good portion of first rounders. Florida for example had the 2014 1st overall, 2nd overall, and 4th overall picks in their lineup in addition to the 2nd overall from 2013 just for a few examples.
