My parents ordered one in 67’. I drove the wheels off of it in HS. They passed it down to me and I passed it down to my little brother. Memories!😊 We owned quite a few a few AMC’s. Marlin, Javlin, Rogue, Rebel Machine, Hornet, Nash wagon.
What a nice car, I had heard of them but had never seen any. My father's first new car was a '65 Classic. Congratulations on that beautiful jewel and keeping it for so long!
I am grateful that someone kept this very rare car from extinction. What a beauty! Back in the ‘60s, my cousin dated a young 16 year old boy who had a ’66 with 327 4 speed. At the time, I thought the car was ugly with a Rambler front end and a beautiful roof and back. Now I think it is quite a good looking car. He took a bunch of us kids for a ride and I was astonished at its performance. It was very fast and I had ridden in my neighbors Judge which was new and this Marlin seemed just as fast to me. Also, I thought the interior was sporty and luxurious and was very impressed with the overall quality and had to admit it was a very nice car. I had hated Ramblers then but AMC by 1973 became my all time favorite car brand after a new car show won me over and Pontiac moved to a close second. I recently heard he still has this car. Wow!
My dad had a '65 Marlin. He got it some time around the mid-70's out of a junk yard with a blown engine. It was roughly around 1983 when he got it back on the road. Drove it until around 1990 when the engine developed a knock. We got another engine and swapped it into the car. My dad found really bad corrosion under the front fenders at the base of the a-pillars. He pulled the fenders off to repair it... Sadly, it never made it back on the road. My dad died and my mom gave the car to a relative who let it go to a salvage yard. I only got to drive the car a couple of times. It was actually a really nice car to drive. I know why my dad liked it so much.
love your car. i remember as a kid seeing them and loved them. my dad had a couple of Nashes when I was small then he got a 63' Rambler station wagon, said it was one of the best cars he'd ever owned. had to sell it in 1966 when we lived in Hawaii, to expensive to ship back home to Mass. for the rest of his life drove Chrysler's. I wanted him to get a Marlin after he sold the Rambler.
when I was young and looking for my first car, I looked at s Marlin. But ended up with a 1963 Oldsmobile F-85, another fine car. Bit of auto trivial, the '63 F-85 was one of the first muscle cars made.
Rambler Marlin was a mid-size car which would have been more of a competitor to the 1966 Dodge Charger. Both of those cars were probably responses to the GTO not the Mustang. The Camaro and AMX were the response to the Mustang.
Marlin came first as midyear '65 (February 1965), it was originally intended as the Tarpon, a compact Rambler American-based fastback, but was changed to the intermediate Classic series due to lack of a V8 in the American and also because American Motors chairman and CEO Roy Abernethy insisted on a "3+3" to trump the 2+2 Mustang fastback.
I have 65 red and black high back bucket seats 327 flash-o-matic first door to 32 years ago that need some more TLC my stepfather's first new car had the original title and bill of sale
I have one sitting in my driveway that needs restoring- can't get anyone to buy it. It's just not in demand enough, and too hard to find parts for. Awesome car though.
I remember a guy in Kenosha that had like 4+ of them parked all over the street and in his garage. He died quite some time ago and his cars were probably dispersed to all kind of different people (and the wrecking yard, unfortunately).
I just walked by one in my neighbors driveway the same color same year i would be lying about the miles if i gave a number but they are low beautiful car they don't make them like that anymore!
