I think they had something like this when I was little at an arcade centre and I remember I wanted to go on it and thought it looked like a spaceship but it's not at the arcade centre anymore
90's Sega stuff was soo good. The games, the consoles, the arcade machines.. Man, what a time.. I probably spent a gazillion quarters playing the original after burner that just went back and forth.
I remember playing this game in the early 90's, it was awesome, back in 92 it cost $5 to play, it was awesome going upside down. It was worth every dollar when I was a teenager.
@@rustygriswold9981 Yes, in like August or September they got it. When you go there ask to see it or play it as I don’t think it’s in plain view right now. Doc is in the process of doing another building expansion and when that gets completed I think their plan is to have R360 in that room. Enjoy.
About 4 years ago Galloping Ghost arcade in Chicago restored a Sega R360 and put it out for customers to use. It's the last arcade in the entire world to have a working R360.
It's a shame that the arcade market is dead, some things can never be truly replicated with a home version, you will never have the same experience playing at home unless you're rich to have the arcade at home.
@@benjamincastillo3067 Cool; I've never tried. Apparently MJ had one among the stuff they sold off at Neverland ranch when he did (weird dude but good taste in arcade games). Learned that they DO make modern verisons of them (though idk what games they put in). Imagine this + a huge velved screen (or even VR though someone said people would likely puke) + something like Ace Combat 8...
It's in the title of this video: a NOKIA 808, a very limited release phone back in 2012 using PureView technology and running a 41 MP 1/1.2 in sensor Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash and a 1080p 30 fps video with continuous autofocus.
I remember playing this multiple times at the Trocadero in Piccadilly Circus. I used to make no attempt to fly the plane properly and just go round and round and round! So much fun!
Man, I remember playing this game a ton of times when I was a kid and honestly is probably is my most favorite arcade game ever. If I ever fin one for sale that still works, I'm gonna get one!
I made something like that but it didn't have full 360. It was very fun. It was a commercial product. The base was a personal 'Stewart platform' (electric not hydraulic).
Right-on Daniel ! I'm glad that someone finally posted video of this game working. Steve is a great guy, I'm happy to see the game is bringing smiles to all his friends. -KK
Me watching the video: "Hmm, the safety bar seems a little silly. I played Afterburner in the '80s, and there was no safety bar, so unless Sega ramped up the technology.... WOAH! HE'S UPSIDE DOWN! YEAH THEY RAMPED IT UP!" That was pretty awesome. I would love to play one of these. It's cool to see how much this looks like the old After Burner cabinet (also Sega), but with newer tech.
@@alexgeorge3068 afterburner came out in 1987 - the cabinet was limited in how far it could pitch and yaw though (i have many hours logged in various arcades heh) - the r360 seems to do 360 in roll, pitch, and yaw which is crazy, i've never seen a cabinet so versatile
Yeah, slot of people mistakenly think that the cabinet that only went back and forward was the best afterburner, but really this one was the best arcade experience with no equal, not even Gundam pod was as fun as this was.
FIrst thing that comes to my mind seeing this is, is me in the Malibu GrandPrix arcades back in the day! Man I love this! Sega had the best arcade experiences period!
WOW Man, I HAD SOOOO MUCH FUN for months here in Brasil inside this machine... spent a lots of good invested money to my exclusive joy, and I made the records that used to last for weeks in Morumbi Shopping (São Paulo) LOVE IT!!! Thank you for posting this, so I could laugh again with this incredible toy!
HUMMM ENTÃO A GENTE SE CONHECE [ rs ] ....PILOTEI NO MORUMBI NA MESMA EPOCA ....ANOS DEPOIS PILOTAVA UMA VEZ POR SEMANA NO CENTER NORTE ...HEHE ...............................................EITA MUNDO PEQUENO.
Sure, for a long time I was seeking a video about this. It was a great pleasure for me to play After Burner, in Santa Catarina (of course, it is not the same simulator of this video). I think that in Morumbi Shopping (São Paulo) the name of this simulator was G-Loc, with an extensive line to play a little bit....... And I´m according with anothers: "It would awesome if the original Afterburner could be converted to play in this cabinet". Eita mundo pequeno !!!!! (2) Tem um pessoal no youtube que postou um Afterburner em Belo Horizonte, funcionando em 2014!!
I still remember watching my Dad play one of these in an arcade when I was really little, and being both fascinated and absolutely terrified of it (especially as Dad kept teasing me by saying that I had to play it next!). It's so cool to see one again!
I would love to play this. I've only seen it once years ago in an arcade down in Gatlinburg, TN over 20 years ago. They were charging $5 a play and my mom wouldn't give me the money to play it. It would awesome if the original Afterburner could be converted to play in this cabinet.
Actually Afterburner was converted to run in this but it was incredibly rare to find one. I played it on one of the in some random arcade in Australia back in 2003.
@@MattyK166 Awesome! The one I played was at the old TimeZone in downtown Brisbane. The machine Even stalled out and got me stuck in the upside down position. Took a couple minutes for the attendant to figure out how to get me out but I didn't care cuz I was so happy I finally got to play it after looking for one for over 15 years. Lol
@@chriswarden420 Yeah I made a special trip to the GC just to play it. I'm from Vic and was in BrisVegas for a wedding. I ended up buying a ThrustMaster F16 cockpit that was a demo in a toy store. You need a ladder to get in it. I even have some genuine F18 C model canopies from an auction. L/T plan was to use it as a guide but rebuild it out of aluminium and then mount on a multi-axis platform like those sold by CKAS.

Wow, I'm so jealous, I heard about this years ago and always wanted to try it out but this is the first time I actually looked up video to see it in action, it looks like so much fun!
XXXXMYCHANNELXXXX Oh, I meant EXTREME retrofitting. New console / PC / game + HD LED Panel, Writing or adapting software to work the servos, you name it. Would be EPIC!
produKtNZ This with an oculus rift would be awesome. I think they should build a roller coaster and program an oculus rift demo with it, so you actually feel the action happening to your body. I've thought about that since I was little. We rode those dumb "4D" rides that shook around while you look at a tv. If they put one of those on a track it would be sick
this cabinet would be perfect for a roller coaster simulator; they could take world famous roller coasters and have them as a selectable choice and allow the rider to experience the coaster without having to be there.
There is an article talking about a guy named Kevin. The dude owned THREE at one time! Check out the article: sega-memories.blogspot.com/2010/04/introducing-kevin-kerinert-most-sega.html and his RU-vid channel: ru-vid.com/show-UC8IggIHQHBBX--MKDBYZ30g
The 1980s were a different time. Home video games consoles weren't very good. People went to arcades for real entertainment. The R360 was sold to theme park arcades and other big customers.
Played this twice at Gatlinburg TN 20+ years ago @ $5 or $10. Was told there were just 10 of them at a cost of $100000 each and that Michael Jackson owned one.
1:30 Okay, I was NOT prepared for the whole cabinet to start rotating the way it did. I was expecting something more like a tilting and shifting seat. This is extremely impressive, SEGA did some mind-blowing stuff in the arcades. EDIT: In hindsight, I guess I should have figured the cabinet could perform full 360-degree movement from the name "R360" lol
I would pay to play said game during a visit to Cali. This is a VERYA RARE machine, a paramount owned park had one here in Toronto in the. 90s but it was the fighter jet game. I'd love to try this version :p
I doubt you could even find one for sale. They are rare. Only about 150 were ever made. Half of them have been lost. Only a few remain in working order.
I need one of these machines bad would be awesome if the had a star wars machine like this. like star wars battle pod but with all the gyros and turning mechanism........I can only dream.
You guys know about the Typhoon simulator movie ride that some arcades have? Anyway, it'd be awesome if they could get a new type of Typhoon simulator to flip / roll upside down like that n the video! Though , too many times on it would make me sick. lol
I have seen a few Typhoons/Mad Wave Motion Theaters in some arcades, and the concept you mentioned sounds very interesting indeed, with the flipping and rolling upside down in addition to the seats moving and shaking in relation to what is happening on screen.
