Hello Friends,
In today’s video, we have a Nigerian who has lived in Ghana for about 28 years and who shares some of his experiences and knowledge with us. More so, he answers the question, are Nigerians supposed to own businesses in Ghana?
I hope you enjoy?

To everyone of us out there, be you Nigerian or Ghanaian. We should value and cherish our relationship as brothers and sisters for this is the only way we can achieve greatness for us, our children, grandchildren and the generations not yet born. Let’s work together, live in peace and love each and build a United West Africa . A united region where our children will be proud of to live, work and continue building. We have so much natural resources no where in the world has . Let us work together, use these resources and build a better and enviable place to the rest of the world. We can do this. Bring down the borders of all the Ecowas nations. Peace and Love Ecowas. Peace and Love Ghana 🇬🇭 and Nigeria 🇳🇬

Michael K M My friend this borderless stuff you talk is nonsense. We need borders. If we want to reshape the borders fine. But there's already enough problems in africa as it is. Why would you want those problems to more freely move across the continent? We need to country our society better, not introduce more problems from other countries with more people. A lot of these places have ethnic wars. You want them to come and war with us too? You want boko haram to have an easier time traveling or smuggling themselves along with weapons into ghana? I doubt most people have thought seriously about any of this things they're talking about

The problem with complaint to such protocol has its challenges. Ghana’s population is around 31 million, Nigerian population around 230 million. If 8 million people relocate to Ghana, a third of the population is added which always comes with its own socioeconomic situation. Remember the population of Nigeria is more than the the combine population of all the Ecowas countries.

upload videos Also who said we have to make anyone a citizens of our country if we don't want to? Even if only one nigerian or saudi arabian moved to ghana they don't have to become a citizen. Being a citizen gives people a lot of power in your society and an ability to affect and manipulate a lot of things. Inside of a country that they might not necessarily value as much as their country of origin. You can work in ghana and do many things, they don't have to be citizens. I don't want a labanese running for president in some years because he is so called "citizen". We need to value and keep the things we have. And our country is what we have. If someone comes and messes it for you, they have their country to return to, you have no where.

@@Love22320 Yes we have that choice, like any country. We can pick and choose who we want. In fact we're not strict enough, and we have to clean house and send a lot of these indians and random street beggars back. Black americans face severe hatred for being black like us. We're providing another option for them even if it might not be perfect. We also see the potential for us to build together (if we have sensible people connecting and not too many wild people or uncooperative personalities). It doesn't mean we have to take in the whole world nor did we call for the whole world. Also why is someone who thinks we're 'small ghana' concerned with us not letting them into our small ghana? Don't you have better places to be?

P Y Some people seem to really want ghana to be wide open. We really have to wake up and pay attention to what these politicians are doing and what internet personalities are trying to push in our minds. Ghana is our sovereign land and country, we can shape and run it how we want. We don't have to do anything, you're free to shape your country in absolutely anyway you please. We can have cooperative relations with many countries and it's citizens but it doesn't mean have to make them citizens or give them power in our society. That's probably the most dangerous thing you could do. We can have rules and regulations on top of those relations and limit it according to what benefits us and the citizens of the country. There are nigerians i think could be very valuable citizens to us. But who should it be a benefit to? For them or for us? Should we give it to them or anyone else just because they want it? Just because they feel entitled? Even with citizenship you can have different kinds and levels of citizenship like you can have different kinds of visa. And if the person proves themselves then maybe you can consider upgrading it and maybe eventually give full citizenship (should probably always reserve the right to revoke it). We need to stop being aimless and disorganized and seeming like we're ready to allow anything anyone brings our way or suggests and make up our minds on how we want our society to run. We need to make some hard strict rules. This citizenship talk, some country's policy is they don't even allow any non-native to be citizen under any circumstance. They might even reject natives if they leave the country. Even residency is an issue. You have to prove yourself before you even get a visa. So it's up to us and we shouldn't let anyone tell us what we have to do

Nice vlog. However ' in regards to the Nigeria n Ghana trade impasse ' the Nutag president is dishonest and deliberately told falsehood. Yes there is Ecowas law that protects all member states equally. However the law does not infringe upon the sovereign laws of any individual country. The Nutag that's the Nigerian union of traders Association took the matter with Guta to Ecowas court in Nigeria and lost so what's he talking about? Yes Nigerians or for that matter Ecowas members are free to do business in any member state without any hindrances. However, there are laws especially when entering into the RETAIL space of any member state. For instance, a member state can bring goods from his/her country to trade /retail in any member country without infringing on Ecowas and the countries law. However, if the origin of the goods are from non member state then you cannot import it to any member state to trade unless you fulfil the GIPC law that requires the trader to provide $1m . And this is where the problem of Nigerian traders lies. The man you interviewed knows this very well. If you want an interview with the Guta president to know the other side let me know and I can organise that extra for you. You kept expressing about some attitudes of bad Nigerians and he kept defending them. That shows how dishonest he is. Crime is done by anyone but when you are in other man's country, you expect that your people reduce or behave well. I think that was what you were trying to push on him and he kept sweeping it under carpet. It doesn't help much. By the way Nigeria has similar law as Ghana in regards to trading in retailing space. Just that Nigerians are so many and so good and the non Nigerians competing is insignificant so no one sees the need to complain there.

❤❤❤❤❤❤ Absolutely right. Due to the population of Nigerians in Ghana, the issue of the restriction of trade laws is obvious. I'm a Ghanaian born in Nigeria and I support the law on retails based on our population and market scale. ECOWAS members being treated equally does not mean that Ghana market should be flooded with other nationales thereby subjecting the average Ghanaian to oppression. Each nation has rights to bring restrictions in its trade sector.
@Okoragyak
@Okoragyak 11 месяцев назад
You rightly summed it up: This Nigerian being interviewed is very dishonest and disingenuous. He is making an argument that crime committed should ONLY be tied to IDENTITY, but not NATIONALITY. This is absolutely lacking in logic: If it happens that most of the unfamiliar crimes like kidnapping (like the Takoradi girls), breaking into a police station to release a fellow Nigerian criminal in a lawful custody, or a murder of Police Officer happened to be committed by Nigerians, should the nationality of those individual criminals not matter? And, is the nationality not part of the so called identity of the criminal?

All proven criminals should be prosecuted to the full extent of the applicable law. In this thread, someone alluded to historical occurrences. Many people mention this from time-to -time. Please note that the first stone was casted in the 1960's by Ghana. It seems in many instance that there is healthy & unhealthy rivalry - some born out of ignorance. I have enjoyed your programme, very matured interview, as a Ghanaian based in London, UK, I think the relationship between Ghanaians and Nigerians could improve even better if our leaders work together more and educate our citizens on the importance of unity, progress and prosperity. The issue of security, criminality, arm robbery etc, and blaming one another is down to weak and corrupt national security agencies in individual countries, which racist and nationalist people use, even here in the UK to bash foreigners. Hate it or like it, Ghana/Nigeria are the leaders of West Africa, and one period.

S A It might also be down to not really checking who's coming and going. But despite that we have some people calling for 'one africa' and 'borderless africa'. Complete madness. How about we keep our country like everyone else and they keep theirs? If people want to contribute to the society, improve it in some way or and make a life here they can and clearly the man in this video did. They don't need to be citizens and gain power in our system in order to do that. Ghana seems to keep shooting for a complex society it's not yet ready to run and worse, not even making any deliberate effort to prepare to run it. We don't have any cyber security sector yet the government wanted to make many things 'digital'. And how would we protect our system and society then? Outsource all that work and important information and precious data of the country and government to some random third party company? I used to think the planning of african countries was terrible, but now i'm seeing with my own eyes that it's even worse than i thought. They don't know how to implement anything it seems but keep pushing agenda after agenda. Are most of these people educated enough to be in government? Who knows?

I was born in Nigeria and was in Nigeria for 28years till i returned home. 28yrs ago in Ghana around the time i also returned here was bliss. The issue of foreigners ID card etc is 1, a revenue generation for the country 2. A means to security/protection. Crime rate is less because criminals are easier to track. You can own stores in Ghana and sell, but if you decide to bring goods from China or any other country other than West Africa, then you will be required to pay $1m. We Ghanaian love Nigerians but you get problem with us when you violate our laws. Let us promote African goods not China or Dubai and you would have no problems. Ecowas has to rethink through and amend that law to protect indigenes when it comes to petty trading. Nigerians deal in very unfair petty trading practices. They way they cut prices and the way they raise money for business. I don’t want to go deep into how they get money for business because some will be offended. The Ghanaian Laws to petty trading is best suited for the country, the ecowas one can cause social contentions. At least the indigenes should be safe guarded. Don’t get me wrong, this has nothing to do with hate, but fairness. Ghanaians don’t hate Nigerians, but fairness must prevail to avoid any social unhappiness.

He's not a citizen because he's not ghanaian. He can be a resident and own a business, or go to school or most things anyone would want to do in life. Why does he need to be a citizen? And that's how it should be for everyone, including all those bogus labaneses 'citizenships' and other foreign identities that attach themselves to the country and cultivate power in a country that's not theirs. People should just come and work (if that's what they're doing) and go. And if we see you as a loyal worthy member of our society then we should consider citizenship. But giving it to any and everyone just because they've stayed for a number of years is like selling your country away. Especially with power seeking groups and groups that want to exploit africans.

Didn't you just hear him say that he doesn't want to be a ghana citizen and pays his resident card every year accordingly?
