Hawaiian Airlines was on the blue carpet of the World Premiere of Disney's Moana in Hollywood, CA. Lina Girl joins Hawaiian Airlines and asked the cast why this film is important to them and to the culture of Polynesian voyaging.
I haven't seen this animated feature yet. Glad Hawaiians are being represented positively in an animation. Though, there is "Hawaii 5-0" from the 70's and the current one. And there was Magnum PI. My only criticism is the naming of The Rock's character...Maui??? :)) Not even named after an area "Kapalua"? :) Or how about a Hawaiian name that isn't hard for mainlanders to say "Haku"> :) "Moana"? I would have picked another...as Hawaii's most famous shopping mall is the "Ala Moana". :)) How about "Kianna"? :"Keyllanni" ...etc. :) Now how about a feature film that also portrays Hawaiians favourably? :) An action film? Comedy...etc.
Anderson C Maui is a Demi God enriched in Polynesian culture. From Hawaii (Hawaiiki) our motherland all through out Polynesia. The Tagata whenua in Aotearoa (New Zealand) hold him in the same light. It is not only appropriate, but righteous. Aloha, Kia ora, Ofa, Alofa.
