If you want more flutter tighten the dump valve diagram spring so it opens later so under hard boost you'll get dump under light medium boost you'll get flutter.
The red ring on the BOV is the gasket. You should take the old gasket off to ensure you don't get any leaks. I have the same Hybrid BOV by GFB on my 2015 STI and the original gasket was giving me issues.
Sounds good! I've had my Subie for like 7 years and i still haven't done a BOV...I guess i've heard too many bad things about them. My Cobb intake is close enough! 😆
Yooo that's dope. I've got the same one. You can adjust the preload to make it fluttter/dose. Try dialling the 5mm hex in a couple turns and hear the difference. Keep up the good work!
If you guys left it on full atmospheric setup definitely get it tuned...if not leave it on recirculation...it's not as loud but safer with no tune.....good video! 👍
I know you guys don't post anymore, but ya'll were who got me into Subies and I've since owned 3 different versions of a Hawkeye including an Australia Domestic exclusive trim - WRX Club Spec 9. I noticed Hongo disappeared in your later videos. I hope he's ok and you're all well. (was just going through some BOV videos and of course you guys popped up)
if recirc no tune needed but 50/50 or full vent you'll need a tune unless you want to grenade the motor. should've gone with the turbosmart cause gfb is known for leaking
if you vta, you are throwing away metered air, aka air that the MAF measured and is basing fueling off of. You can go slightly rich for a portion of time in between shifts. If you're running full vta you should use a SD sensor to be safe
Best thing to do when in doubt is hit up your tuner. They’ll know what’s best for your car. As far as I know the only proper way to run a bov is with a speed density tune. Also that gfb bov is known to leak so just be aware. For the price one would think quality would be good but is not.
great video guys, very respectful and clean, i like that ! If you don't mind, how did you make the evo turbo fluter this way ? thank you in advance and cheers from Morocco :)!
From Phatbotti Tuning: A blow off valve should never be used on a Mass Air Flow fueled vehicle. A blow off valve simply decreases the performance of the vehicle. The purpose of a bypass valve is to bypass the pressurized air when the throttle closes back to in front of the turbo to help keep the compressor wheel spinning during shifts. A blow off valve is taking this feature away. So the turbo will spin down way more when shifting. The other major downside to a blow off valve on a MAF based car is that it's releasing air that was measured by the MAF sensor...so when that air is released, it makes the car run rich because the ECU is still injecting fuel for air that's no longer there. This will prematurely foul the plugs and make your gas mileage go down because you're just wasting fuel every time you let off the throttle. When the air is released you will notice your AF Correction and/or AF Learning go to very high negative values to try and compensate for the car running extremely rich. If the rich condition happens at or near idle it can cause the car to sputter and or stall. This can NOT be tuned out most of the time. The solution is to pre-load the BOV more by tighten the bolt on top or adding washers to it. If it is not adjustable, then remove it and light it on fire and put the stock BPV back on the car.
eh I think a bov Is very important for It helps the turbo that's building up so much air pressure when the throl plate is closed, if using a bpv on a turbo car your just asking for it, it will wear your turbo. But yes I agree you need a tune to help the ecu know what the bov would be doing when running a car that's bpv from factory.
don’t let it back fire, it’s not good, i blew my 2018 sti wastegate, which fucked up my turbo. i have the same bov you have to adjust how much it’s open so it doesn’t back fire. just a heads up bro!
Every gfb bov I’ve ever seen fails a smoke test the will cause issues with holding boost just at a heads up if you want one I would recommend using a turbo smart over others although non of them are good for the car unless your tuned in speed density
The BOV does absolutely nothing other then a slight power decrease and its runs rich for 1 second in between shifting without a tune. It can’t cause serious problems
From what i understand and take it with a grain of salt but the incoming air is read at the maf, way before the bov. so...the bov releasing air that the maf thinks is there will result in more fuel with less air ruining rich. for the reason its advised to run recirc and not to atmosphere. Get a tune. -2012 wrx owner
A quick google or forum search would have saved you money by explaining why blow off valves and Subarus don’t mix. By an aftermarket recirculating valve and save your self the headache of having constant tuning issues.
