*Install was easy **fireplace.homes** good although I personally had some difficulty with the thermostat I had. Issue was mine though, not realizing that electric heaters couldn't use oil thermostats. Tip: If you are using an external thermostat, run the power to the thermostat, not the unit. Once that was squared away it worked great.*

Chuck Barron they are awesome. There a vieaga part. You cut the bell end off the pipe on the baseboard and insert then you can press a fitting over the insert while it’s in the pipe. Makes it so the baseboard doesn’t crush. I use them every time now.

Great video. Job looks great. If you have the supply and return coming from wall and not ceiling. Is it possible to run the lines above or below element inside the basbaoard? Is there enough room? In my case it is a tight spot to come out from behind walls so I have to some how loop around the element before exiting behind the baseboard?

Are those crimp fittings more reliable than say a brazed joint? I fully understand that the crimping method is WAY faster and easier but just on a DIY level, what would you recommend? I don't mind brazing copper.

Good morning Chuck,do the brass inserts always have to be used when pressing fittings on baseboard haeter sections or only when we see that the copper pipe in the baseboard heater is thin copper pipe?I'm asking because I have hydronic baseboard heating here in my house and I've never dealt with baseboard heating until now.I saw you use brass inserts in another video where you installed baseboard heaters with your press tool but I didn't see you use the brass inserts in this video.Thanks in advance.
@ChuckBarron
@ChuckBarron 4 года назад
Yes they do! I learned the hard way.
@NHPlumber
@NHPlumber 4 года назад
The inserts are needed because the copper is very thin and when the press tool squeezes the fitting it will bend the pipe too much and not make a good connection with the o-ring against the copper. The insert makes the pipe more rigid.

Hi there! I am wondering what is the name of the tool you are using to puncture the initial holes in the metal before using the screws to mount. Also what type of screws are you using to mount?
@dc6233
@dc6233 Год назад
Use a drill bit, or a nail, it's just a clearance hole. Then use whatever screw you have that will reach the studs, probably a 2" or 2 1/2" sheetrock screw, decking screw, whatever, doesn't matter...

Chuck, forgive the newbie question, but when you used that power tool to join the copper tubing by press fitting them together, does this eliminate the need to solder them? Does it create a strong, or just as strong leak free seal? Thanks...

So I have about 16 feet of baseboard heating in my living room, Pex , it’s constantly popping and snapping. Last year we even changed out the entire boiler with fresh water. There’s no bleeders on these heaters either. What could be the issue
@dc6233
@dc6233 Год назад
IT needs to be bled in your basement at the boiler. There are usually fittings on the boiler for that purpose, watch some videos on bleeding/purging... But, don't over pressure the boiler, be careful. There are no fittings on your heaters because 1 - they aren't needed, 2 - each 90 with a bleeder is a heck of allot more money to use...

Number one they are working with out tools, #2 the heaters backings should be screwed flat straight rite on top of the baseboard level , A' give room for cleaning and vacuuming under B" the more air get in from under the more heat comes off the top and first of all they are not installing level or pitched to return this system will trap air all over there will be crackling every time the heater go on making your dreams short .

No more sweating the fittings with lead??? Serious question, coming up on 40 years that my father and I built the house I'm about to move back into. All Slantfin hot water copper baseboard heat with a gas fired boiler in a two story 3,500 sqf house. I wanted to replace and upgrade the current 38 year old Crown Boiler with a new more effeciant Beduras 85% but HVAC contractors are putting the FEAR in me saying "a new boiler could cause leaks in the loops and it could happen at any time being the copper and lead sweated fittings are almost 40 years old"...seriously??? They want to install a Fujitsu heat pump mini ducted, inverter type forced air for heat and AC.
@ChuckBarron
@ChuckBarron 4 года назад
They selling you the fear....Negative on their fearful tactics. kind of cheesy but sounds like you already smell a rat. new boiler fine. air test your loops....never heard of that theory but then again I do not sell heat pumps....lol...hit me up anytime Ray Ray!
@hmdwn
@hmdwn 4 года назад
@@ChuckBarron ...installed a Crown ARW105 gas fired boiler myself. It took sometime running for fittings, ball valves etc but I saved over $10,000 doing it with a friend (steam fitter). Have about $2,700 into the total job...working like a charm! Next April; installing central AC in my house without existing ductwork. Two Trane XR16 side cooling condensers, 2-variable speed air handlers one in attic-down, for second floor bedrooms and bathrooms, one in basement-up to all first floor rooms. Should be a fun job and saving $$$$$$$ by doing it myself.

Not to criticize or anything but i feel that filling the boiler system through the washing machine hose is not a good idea. The boiler is meant to function at around 12-15 psi i believe. The pressure at the wash machine outlet could be higher considering it is street pressure. The boiler feed valve is a pressure reducing valve usually reducing to 12psi. The expansion tanks are usually precharged at 12 psi i believe. Im not 100% sure but the greater pressure may cause stress or failure of relief valve which is set for 30psi and expansion tank.
@ChuckBarron
@ChuckBarron 5 лет назад
back in spring I had to test baseboard I installed. The fill was bad so I backfilled through boiler drain from washer box to get the test done. I never open er up for your exact reasons above and always watch the gauge. its a nice cheat when your stuck.
@jamesgillies3710

best to purge with city pressure to get all the air out of the system. Then set your fill pressure regulator to 12-15.
