Hayoung Choi & Joachim Carr | Francis Poulenc: Cello Sonata, FP 143 

I am really blown away by this performance. The most important aspect of this piece is, to me, the conversational relationship between the two instruments and the performers playing them. These two performers really do a fantastic job of bringing out the back and forth. The strong rhythmic foundation of the piece feels like it comes naturally out of the instruments' speaking to one another, rather than like the instruments have to keep up with a tempo imposed on them. I particularly love the way they bring out some of the beautiful phrases in the finally. They don't rush through it, which can sometimes happen. It is such a strange movement, and it is lovely to hear all the different little musical scenes, some sweet and others rather harsh or dark, brought out individually and given their own space to breathe.
