i remember this video played on beavis and butthead once...but yeah, hazel are a genre to themselves: like grunge, pop-punk and indie blended..i wish more bands sounded like them.
Fun fact: Hazel's debut album was released in Poland on a licensed cassette tape somewhere between 1995 and 1997 (can't remember exactly). Compact discs were horribly expensive back then for the Polish people, mostly yuppies bought them. The same label also released licensed tapes from Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile bands like Mudhoney, The Walkabouts, Sunny Day Real Estate, Rein Sanction, Afghan Whigs, Cows, Helmet, Hammerhead, Janitor Joe, Today Is The Day, Love 666, Tar, Guzzard, Chokebore. Today Is The Day played in Poland shortly after the release of their debut album, they were just starting out, very few people knew them. Chokebore, Hammerhead and Janitor Joe also played in Poland around the same time.
@@pjpanopticum4623 Tak, zaczynał się jak tylko wracałem ze szkoły. Pamiętam teledyski Ministry, Butthole Surfers, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Cocteau Twins, G.G.F.H., My Bloody Valentine, Mercury Rev, Mudhoney. To tam po raz pierwszy usłyszałem Afghan Whigs, Codeine, Superchunk, Sunny Day Real Estate.
@@piotrb8434 Wracałem z liceum i nagrywałem na wideo. A potem wielokrotnie odtwarzane. Z Drgaw jeszcze pamiętam Girls Against Boys, Cows, Hazel, Rein Sanction, sprinkler, ned's atomic dustbin, buffalo tom, grant lee buffalo, love battery, candlebox, monster magnet, L7, stabbing westward, infectious grooves, ugly kid joe, the walkabouts, velocity girl, brad, jesus lizard. Też chyba puszczano tych bardziej znanych wykonawców: red hotów, aline in chains, mudhoney, temple of the dog, soundgarden, pearl jam, bjork, soul asylum, helmet, chyba i dead can dance, pj harvey, rem, spin doctors. Ale głowy nie dam, czy to nie inny jakiś program muzyczny. Pamiętasz coś jeszcze, bo właśnie playlistę sobie robię. 🙂 żałuję, że nie ma gdzieś na YT tego programu.
@@pjpanopticum4623 Też to nagrywałem. Też pamiętam Girls Against Boys, Cows, Hazel, Bufallo Tom, Love Battery, Monster Magnet, L7 i The Walkabouts. I jeszcze The Young Gods, Front 242, Eric's Trip i Bettie Serveert. I The Charlatans i "Rhinoceros" The Smashing Pumpkins. O puszczanie Pearl Jam, Ugly Kid Joe, Alice in Chains i Spin Doctors to ich raczej nie podejrzewam, bo to akurat leciało wszędzie. Cows, Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr, The Afghan Whigs, The Walkabouts, Hazel, Rein Sanction, Monster Magnet, The Jesus Lizard, The Smashing Pumpkins, Helmet, Today Is The Day, Hammerhead, Chokebore, Poster Children, The Charlatans, Bauhaus, No Means No, Ministry, Assassins Of God, 2 Bad, The Swans, Cabaret Voltaire, Einsturzende Neubauten, The Young Gods, Front 242, The Legendary Pink Dots, Controlled Bleeding, A Split Second pokupowałem sobie w latach 90-ych na kasetach. Love Battery, Tumor Circus, Fugazi, October Faction, Victims Family udało mi się zdobyć w postaci CD. Pamiętasz taki magazyn Outside? Oni pisali o takiej muzyce a trochę później zaczęli wydawać kasety licencyjne i byli pierwszymi w Polsce dystrybutorami wytwórni takich jak Sub Pop, Glitterhouse, Amphetamine Reptile, Dischord, Touch & Go, Southern, 1/4 Stick, City Slang i Alternative Tentacles. Pamiętam jeszcze taką gazetkę Korek. Pisali między innymi o Big Black, The Cramps i The Undertones.
this song is out of phase somebody must fix it damn i love this song... still listening til today 1 of the many bands ignored by the mainstream media since the 90's.
I was seriously lucky enough to nAb a few lessons from krebs, while he was still humouring players for profit.. no mixed words here, that guy is on another level. that he will teach us about.. JP!!!!
Thanks for posting this...PDX rocked in the 90's!!! Hazel, Heatmiser, jr. high, Crackerbash, Thirty-Ought Six, the drakes, Sunset Valley, Braille Stars, etc... So many memories of La Luna and the Satyricon.
Must have been a perfect disaster Perfect And it seemed so effortless, remember? Like that time you told me, oh man you told me That the stars came down for just you and me And the comets that we see are the limit to everything And it never changes yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Like the glass on the pavement All the time all day All the sand in our glass All the things that we say All the things that we-- And everywhere comets flare [glare?] (A, E.... C.. F) And everywhere comets flare (A, E.... C.. F) And the seasons fly across the window And the stars and sky above the sea Not indifference, nor a sense of bliss Just the wide wide open yeah yeah yeah I can feel the, uh--the weight of your shoulders on mine With all the world and time and everything But I'll lay low 'til you say so It’s the only way; it’s the only way But when it burns your fingers it slows you down I'll be the comet that brings you back around I'll be the comet that crashes to the ground I'll be the comet, it crashes d-d-d-d-d-d-down And everywhere comets flare (A, E.... C.. F) And everywhere comets flare (A, E.... C.. F) And everywhere comets flare And everywhere comets flare And everywhere comets flare! As the seasons fly above the sea And everywhere comets flare! And the stars and sky above the sea And it mocks my love And it makes me itch And the seasons fly above the sea Not indifference, nor a sense of bliss Just the wide wide open yeah yeah yeah
when the music screws itself into place- forcing a permanent area into ur very being- never to be removed, to be spread out & around for the years to come 💚
so my quest ends here, I've been trying to find out which band this was since I recorded the track from norwegian radio when the album came out. Cool song, strange to hear it in this day and age. Will order the vinyl right away for nostalgic trips in the future. Thanks!
First show I ever saw at the LA LUNA in Portland. Jodi is a fukn rocker. One of the few bands that were meant to go on to greatness. Super great show. Will always remember them. Used to watch them in bohemian after dark. I hope they are doing amazing. Super great band!!!!!
Through the haze of memory of when I was young, good looking rock and roller (whatever happened to that guy, I wonder) I had a recollection of some dude dancing around and a chord progression. Took me years to finally figure it out and here I am. Rock on.
That first few notes reminds me of the beginning of Heart Shaped Box. Funny enough they were both signed to sun pop at one point. The chorus sounds like the chorus to Lithium.
They are playing this Saturday night but I can't go because its 21 and over and I don't have anyone to watch my son. He's upset too because he can't go :( This sucks like hell because I've loved them since '93 but I've never had a chance to see them before I moved away in '98 and I've been in NM until just a month ago. Hopefully they'll play again sometime soon where its all ages.
=Wiur= DZIEKI PO 100 kroc SZUKALEM TEGO WIEKI az nastal ten dzien w ktorym wspomnienia orzyly ostatnio slyszalem i widzialem ten klip majac chyba z 11 lat czyli 15 lat temu ! ! ! ale tak ZAPADL W PAMIEC ze na PRAWDE mnie zatkalo WSPOMNIENIA JAK ZYWE SZOOOOOOOK !!!
Never mind the last comment.I actually got to see them play and they were just as awesome as I thought they would be. First show in seven years and it may be awhile before they play again since Jody is based out of LA now and Brady lives in New York.
@GrungeRockerAziz There is some of that, but neither Frank Black nor Kim Deal had the natural instinct for harmony that Jody Bleyle had (has?)-- she is the Emmylou Harris of indie rock
I actually agree with this dude. Of course I don't think either of us are trying to overgeneralize the band. They just sound like they were influenced by the Pixies. But really, who wasn't.
I went to the m.f.n.w show but I got there right before they started because I had to pay for a babysitter to watch my son. Please don't tell me Poison Idea played this year because I would of done just about anything to see them too. I listen to them all the time and when I was in Albuquerque, I told random people about them and that they should listen to them. Lol. I wonder why Fred told me they haven't played in seven years? That's kinda strange.
i wanted to go to but was broke........so sad! I am atleast fortunate enough to have seen them here in portland before they broke up. Did you catch the m.f.n.w. show? Did Pete open with gossamer wings? Sno-bud and the flower people were the support act right? God i miss sno-bud! I spoke to pete (and his country-swing playboys) 3 months ago and he said hazel are planning to re-unite once every year like they have the past 2 in a row. MFNW really sucked this year except for hazel and poision idea.
There must be something in the air she said that makes it so Square when we get together feels like snakes in my hair and it feels all wrong somehow by the wall I fell well maybe next year old fall why don't know cause for alarm you know I mean it so you know I mean it so you know I mean it so so truly so truly truly so truly so truly so truly truly truly truly truly truly!
Wow I haven't heard that song since I was in 9th grade I was the only person I ever met in my entire life but had that album and that was the best song on the album and that was what I don't know like 27 years ago, what an awesome song... when they did that pond Hazel cracker Bash show at the Crystal few years ago all I wanted to see was pond and they were so awesome I didn't even stay for hazel how stupid was that
I remember at the time this band got pretty scathing critical review for being overly simplistic...basic power chords and angsty lyrics. I honestly think they're great, though.
seriously........hazel sound nothing like the pixies. The only thing they have in common is a female in the band who sings occasionally. and i was correct......you may have pixies but have you heard anything else by hazel?
@gangpill Erm...Tasteless,uniform,bland,oppressive,unattractive,conformed,unwitty,depressing,mind numbing, saturating and generally awfull with a vocoder... The nineties where a golden age we seem to have neglected...^^
