"My mother told me not to marry you!" I bet Harry wishes she listened to her mother, too!

Mother Murphy's is a food flavoring business from North Carolina. The Hoboken reference is a dig at Hobokon NJ, because of the NY bias against NJ. New Yorkers do lots of NJ jokes. Bakshi said Steve Krantz (owner of the animation studio) gave him a small budget and Marvel demanded a unrealistic schedule to complete each episode. He said he would fit stock animation cells together like a puzzle to get the episode finished. He also said that Marvel "Didn't give a damn" about what he produced, as long as he got the episode done in time. He claims he got no notes or feedback about what he was doing. "Stan Lee never called me to say whether it was good or bad", he quoted. He admits the show was "far below" what he could have done.

That's a shame about Bakshi😞. I'm sure he would have rather been able to do his best work, but you can't do that when the people writing the paycheck are pulling the strings.

Spider-Man: (Voiceover with 1st season montage) "Be sure to tune in next week, when I face a crime ring boss who's BIG trouble, and has me...'King Pinned'!"

10:25 I get the feeling the villain here was one of those kids who messed around in school, didn't pay attention in class, didn't bother to attempt to complete or turn in work, and got failing or dangerously-close-to-failing grades every time. Always partying, messing around, and they never took anything serious.

Kingpin is a great example of a main villian that works with 2 different heroes. He works well in Spider-Man & he works well in Daredevil

Ah Foswell. the secret identity of Spideys first big costumed gangster the Bigman and the enforcers. Though he beat Kingpin by about 40 issues sadly he wasn't big enough and by the time the kingpin showed up was just about ready to go straight.

this episode had more people in the Bugle this season than in the previous season

As I recall Foswell looked different and went full gangster as the Big Man.

The Kingpin of a later era wouldn't haul J. Jonah to his hideout. There's a simple reason: You don't poop where you eat. The Kingpin may have gotten away, but he lost a pretty nice lair. I don't know if it was also the drug lab. As the episode shows, the Daily Bugle is apparently a serious newspaper with journalistic exposes. It also shows the first encounter between J. Jonah and Spider-Man to be one where he saves his hide. I wonder if we'll see the moment it all went south. Later on, the newspaper is a tabloid that uses Spider-Man like other tabloids use Elvis sightings, fad diets, and page three girls. Meanwhile, J. Jonah seems convinced Spider-Man is behind every crime in the city from kidnapping to tearing off those tags that say "do not remove under penalty of the law".

Hi, Dave! Much of this episode was extrapolated from the issue "To Die A Hero" which included the Frederick Foswell and Kingpin storyline. Had they stuck closer to it, this would have been a banger of an episode. Oh well...

They certainly made Aunt May look much heavier in this than in the comics. Usually she was portrayed then as quite frail and thin.

Maybe they should have named the heavier one, "Aunt Might".

I believe the crack about "Mother Murphy's Coffee cake" is an embellished reference to 'Murphy's law' that states... "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong and at the worst possible moment!" The embellished meaning... you may not believe it's a bomb, but this thing goes way beyond Murphy's law!

The Kingpin always reminded me of The Juggernaut from The X - Men. 8:00 My dad was stationed in SD during his four years in the Navy. He had to put up with jokes about did we still ride in covered wagons & were we still fighting off the Indians when he told people that he was from Indiana. 🙄

My wife grew up in rural northwestern Wyoming. She has stories galore about the tourists. One day a car broke down right near their house. They watched and watched and nobody go out of the car. Finally her dad went to the car and asked what was wrong. They were terrified to get out of their car because they were sure an Indian was going to come over the hill and scalp them. Another group once stopped to take pictures of a dead cow, thinking it was a buffalo. The list is endless. And in Wyoming we told North Dakota jokes. Every state has another state to make fun of, it seems. Here in Washington we usually tell Idaho jokes. Of course, Idaho earns them...
