My second deck tech from Dominaria United. It's Hazezon, Shaper of Sand. Decklist scryfall.com/@igniteaxiom/dec... Patreon / edhdeckbuilding TCGPlayer Affiliate Link www.tcgplayer.com/?...
You really are such a great deck builder. The inclusion of the two lieges is what inspired me to write this. Such good attention to detail. Inspiring, Demo, keep up the excellent work!
Trying this deck build out! I muscled in Knight of the Reliquary, and now Yavimaya Cradle of Growth after play testing against another of my decks with that land. Cradle of Growth makes everything a Forest. Knight of the Reliquary can then sacrifice any desert land card to search up any land and put it directly on the battlefield. 👀
Hazezon is a total flavor win. It's a shame that the deserts we have right now are so weak. Hopefully we get a couple of quality cycles of deserts in the future to give this deck a little more juice. In the meantime, I'm sure he'll be a fun commander for a low-power table.
When I built my deck tech for hazezon I had lots of things that benefit from me sacrificing lands and that seems to work really well especially the card endless mists, essentially every turn sacrificing a desert and having a fog effect, and then I can replay that desert for 2 more sand warriors next turn.
Sigil Captain along with Secure the Wastes, especially if you have a token doubler out. Fits thematically. Hour of Reckoning can also be a great wipe for the deck since its gonna leave your tokens alone.
One of my cards in my Hazezon deck is Azusa lost but seeking, since with her and hazezon i can sacrifice something like grasping dunes and replay it 3 multiple times in a turn, generating 6 tokens and giving -3/-3
When i built this deck I didnt embrace the warrior tribal at all, and instead tried to fit as many landfall token synergy cards as possible. Avenger of Zendikar is a huge boost for this deck, and if anyone hasnt tried jetmir nexus reveler Id highly reccomend it. I use it as a craterhoof behemoth equivielnt and if no one answers it the effect stays!
i love all of your deck techs, theyre always so interesting and often creative. this one is just beautiful. might have to make this! thank you for all your work on this channel. always my go to for when im looking for inspiration since we have very similar ideologies with deck building and love of more niche ideas.
I liked Greensleeves because I absolutely loved the books when I was a child and with Sporemound and Seed the land I'm making Badgers, Mushrooms (saprolings) and snakes everytime a land comes into play....... I mean thats an OG meme right there.
I also suggest cenn's enlistment, waves of aggression, and reality scramble all have retrace. So you can pitch your desert to it and then play out said desert.
I just built a hazezon deck and I didn't think about putting warrior support in it. I did think that Keeper of fables would be a good draw effect since the tokens are not humans. I also put goblin bombardment and impact tremors to turn my tokens into immediate damage but I definitely am gonna put some of the anthems in there to pump those bad bois up
If i am honest, normally i dont like how you build decks, but this time i gotta say, i missed a few really good cards that you showed. Thank you and keep it up 👍🏻
As cute and on-brand as that desert hydra is, I would rather lean more heavily into the warrior tribal theme with Boldwyr Intimidator and Kargan Intimidator. Bonus: You get to quote one of the best Magic rules text lines and legitimately call your opponents' creatures cowards.
Gonna start brewing with Hazezon tonight, for some reason he just seems like a really fun commander and I’m glad to see a list for him that’s less than $1,000 to use as a jumping off point.
I actually am building this with the borborygmos enraged/seismic assault strategy like you pointed out in a video before! It's prefect to have the ability to play those deserts from the grave!
Hey, Don't you think Sigil Captain can also be a great fit? You're the only guy I saw mention that card and I think it would do wonders on Hazezon Mine took a different way, taking advantage of all those etbs, landfalls and creatures to ping damage with the legions (Cavalcade, Close Quarters, Tremors and such). Also, many wurms and flavors to make a Dune themed deck.
Sigil Captain is a great fit. Along with him, I also threw in a Secure the Wastes since thematically, it fits, and Sigil Captain boosts them so well. Cheap way to immediately create a large board presence, especially if you have a token doubler out.
Sorry if my English isn't 100% right (it's been a while since I've written in a language other than Portuguese) When I saw that Hazezon was going to get a new version I liked the news. But as usual the wizards couldn't miss the opportunity to mess with some cards and chose Hazezon as one of the victims. The first two abilities of this Hazezon are good and match his story, but the last ability limits the card a lot (almost unusable). The last time I saw anyone using desert terrain was 4 or 5 years ago. In the last Hazezon skill I would have put that: If a non-desert land enters the field, it creates a token. If a desert enters the field, it creates two tokens with haste (or another ability to try to encourage the use of desert-type terrain). That way Hazezon could see more play across multiple decks.
Zuran Orb + Azusa + Hazezon is what I am aiming to do. Go wide baby! I gotta admit I have a pimped out Hazezon deck and its amazing, this Hazezon cannot even reach the power level of that one because I have ways to get Hazezon to give me 21+ tokens on my next turn, all while keeping Hazezon off the field or use cards to turn the tokens into angels and swing for lethal. Its super fun. For people who dont want to spend $300+ this is a good super budget Hazezon and you can still go wide. I suspect we will get more deserts in future sets. We are suppose to go back to Amonkhet according to Gavin. When is a big question, maybe 2024. Anyways what I am getting at is I am going to have 2 Hazezon decks because both play styles intrigue me.
I'm not sure if this is the right place so I apologize in advance, but I have a rule question. Say I can Massacre Wurm, it hits the battlefield and gives opponents creatures -2/-2, in response someone destroys it, does the static ability that takes 2 life for each creature dying still trigger?
Yes, because when the Wurm enters the battlefield all the creatures instantly get -2/-2. Any that then die will put its 2 life trigger on the stack. He can't be removed before those triggers go on the stack. Even if it is killed straight away "in response", the triggers will remain there and resolve.
are you going to do a new Rasputin deck tech? he looks really cool but I can't figure out how to build him, I don't want to blink him because he gives away creatures to my opponents but there also aren't many proliferate effects in azorius
You can lean into a wee bit of "encouraged" combat. Crown of Doom or Crescendo of War can do work, plus extra value for urself cause u make 2/2s. Pro red also helps stem agression if you can untap rasputin a bunch and make knights on knights
